A proper steakhouse with a smokehouse aroma as soon as you enter. That sweet smell of wood-grilled meat and the ambiance to go with it. That is once your eyes have properly adjusted to the dim lighting from the brightness of the outdoors.Had made a reservation on a Wednesday night for 5:30pm for my colleague and I. My colleague was running about 15 mins late, so it allowed me to sit at the bar, enjoy a nice old-fashioned cocktail, and have a great chat with Dino, the bartender. I learned about the history of this place, the owner and his team of investors, and other restaurants. Time flew by and before you knew it my colleague had arrived and we were promptly seated at our table. The ribeye was strongly recommended, so I couldn't resist. Who doesn't love a good ribeye steak! It was cooked to perfection, so tender and juicy, and flavors that hyped the taste buds beyond belief. I enjoyed every single bite of that steak, and any tiny portion that couldn't be forked or knifed was taken home for my colleague's dog to enjoy. There is no better treat for a dog!The sides of potatoes and brussel sprouts were great accompaniments to the true star of the show. I left feeling so full and so satisfied. Worth every penny, and it will set you back quite a few.Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. Highly recommend this place.

Bin 54 unfortunately did not meet expectations. The food was mediocre from the very beginning. Generic room-temperature bread and butter. The mussels were pretty bland with sauce that just tasted like seafood water. It came with greasy, overly buttered bread and no bowl to discard the shells in, so we had to just pile them onto our little bread plates. The lobster gnocchi looked sad, was also not very flavorful, and had limp overcooked and shredded up pieces of lobster. All the food was lukewarm. The $120 porterhouse that we requested medium rare was cooked extremely unevenly with a soft rare middle and overcooked grainy edges. At least there were some medium/medium rare pieces somewhere along that spectrum. The outside had some burnt edges and yet no sear or crust. The whole steak was sinewy and felt like a low quality cut of meat. The only saving graces were our server who did just fine and the wine which was pretty good. Overall, the meal was nothing to write home about, *especially* not for the prices they're charging. Bin 54 only gets 2 stars because at least the food was edible.

My neighbor took me here for an evening, and I am impressed by the dark, cozy atmosphere. Bin54 is a great spot for a date night, anniversary, or other special occasion. We sat in one of the U-shaped booths facing the main dining room. I can smell the wood-fired oven from the parking lot. That smell told me we are in for a special evening. Whitney served us and was pleased to hear that this is my first time to Bin54. I got chattery about their wine glasses and enjoyed two bold reds, one from Italy and another from France. My neighbor enjoyed some well-crafted gimlet cocktails. We shared mussels from their Beginnings selection and ordered two New York Strips. We shared Brussels sprouts and haricot verts. The portions are generous, and the first bite of the steak told me why we pay up for them. The texture communicates the meat quality. The restaurant manager came by to check in on us. I'm pleased that he did. Whitney timed her check-ins well. This is the earmark of five-star service.

This place is one of the best upscale steakhouses in the area! The ambiance inside is dark, moody, and cozy. I came here with a friend for a celebration. They have a great selections of wines that the servers are happy to help provide insight when selecting bottles. Entree wise, we ordered a NY strip steak and the salmon. Both entrees were cooked to perfection and delicious. The sides are ordered a la carte so we shared the mac and cheese and Brussel sprouts. Both which were fantastic. My favorite was the mac and cheese because it was very creamy. Overall, we had a fantastic time at Bin 54 and are looking forward for our next visit.

We had a wonderful experience at Bin 54 Steak & Cellar. This is one of the only non-chain, high-end steakhouses in Chapel Hill. The food, drink, and service were among the best we've experienced in the Chapel Hill-Durham area. This is a locally-owned-and-operated business. It's been around since 2006, so it's stood the test of time. If you're looking for a nice dinner out in Chapel Hill, I highly recommend this place.Book your reservation using OpenTable. I'm a fan of OpenTable because it lets you earn rewards such as restaurant discounts and Amazon gift cards. I used my last two points redemptions for gift cards. It's a nice perk for dining out at no additional cost to you.Bin 54 is located in the small Glen-Lennox Shopping Center on highway 54 (Raleigh Rd) at 15-501 (Fordham Blvd). There's free self-parking in the shopping center's lot. No valet. Every time we've come here, the parking lot has been close to full. This is one of those classic, old-school, white tablecloth steakhouses with formally-dressed staff, some in suits like the general manager (Michael Fiscus, who greeted us when we checked in) and sommelier. All staff wear at least bow ties/neckties. We had a Tuesday 7:30pm reservation. We arrived early and the place was packed and busy. Bar manager Collin Lusty took care of us while we waited at the bar. Here, you have the option of eating at the bar.The interior was dimly lit with different rooms and nooks with seating. My wife and I were seated at one of the two-tops in the center of the main dining room. The way the room is setup, there are U-shaped booths along the perimeter so the folks who sit there look inwards towards the center tables. For a two-top, our table was nice and big to fit everything, but my wife and I were farther apart from each other than we're used to when dining out (a lot of leaning forward to talk; not a big deal).Below is a list of what we had. It should give you an idea on what Bin 54 has to offer and the pricing at the time of our visit."Beginnings" (Appetizers)* Beef Tenderloin Tartare ($18) - cornichon, capers, shallots, quail egg, potato crisp* Seared Diver Scallops ($25) - cauliflower puree, butternut squash caponata, Calabrian chili agrodolce"Land" (Steaks)* Bone-In Ribeye ($78) - 22 oz. with au poivre vert sauce on the side* Filet Mignon ($55) - 10 oz. with bearnaise sauce on the side"Companions" (Sides)* Mushroom Ragout ($14) - garlic, thyme* Creamed Spinach Casserole ($12)* Truffled Four Cheese Macaroni ($16)Dessert* Banana Pudding ($12) - bourbon pecan cookie, toasted meringueClassic Cocktail* Perry's Terrace-tini ($14) - Absolut Citron vodka, pomegranate liqueur, lemon juice, mint; served up with a lemon twist and topped with sparkling cava* Vesper ($15) - Bombay Sapphire Gin, Stolichnaya "Stoli" Vodka, Lillet Blanc; served up with a twistSpecial Wine Feature* Portuguese Flight (three 3-ounce pours for $29)- Quinta de Saes, Dao Tinto, 2018- Fitapreta, A Touriga Vai Nua, 2021- Asnella, Single Vineyard, 2021 (Vinho Verde)Everything was phenomenal. No matter what type of food or drink it was, it was perhaps the best we've had in the Triangle, from the Scallops to the Banana Pudding. Even the complimentary bread and butter was fantastic. The Beef Tenderloin Tartare and the Seared Diver Scallops were terrific. One thing that stuck out to me about Bin 54's Beef Tartare was the potato crisps. Presumably housemade, they were really good. The Scallops were incredibly flavored and the meat itself was fresh and succulent. The steaks were A+. We ordered both steaks medium rare and they came out perfect. All aspects of the steaks were on point, from how they were seasoned and cooked to the meat quality. The au poivre vert and bearnaise sauces were housemade and excellent. The sides were amazing too. My wife and I love mushrooms and the Mushroom Ragout hit the spot. The mushrooms were super tasty and had very appetizing textures too. Both the Creamed Spinach Casserole and the Truffled Four Cheese Macaroni were rich and addictive. Generous portions.I loved everything about the Banana Pudding, from the toasted meringue on top to the cookie crumbles inside (my favorite part). This may have been the best Banana Pudding I've had anywhere. The cocktails were strong and delicious. The wine was superb. Our server Brandon was great. This business runs like a well-oiled machine. They got all the details locked down. If I recall correctly, Brandon used to be the bar manager at Cucciolo Osteria in Durham. The executive chef, Kevin Draper, came over from Fearrington House in 2009, so no surprise why the food is exceptional here.Bin 54 is part of the Giorgios retaurant group, named after founder-owner restaurateur Giorgios Bakatsias. At the time of writing this review, there are 16 Giorgios restaurants, 15 of which are located in the Triangle. In Chapel Hill, Kipos Greek Taverna and Osteria Georgi are also part of the group.

I've been to many a steak house throughout the country and this ranks very high up there--just as good as the very best. Perfectly spiced and seasoned and cooked plus tender porterhouse. Mashed potatoes were smooth and velvety with the right hint of garlic and butter. Desserts were stupendous! Service was great but then it took us a bit to get our check and that was very annoying. Thankfully I had awesome company and lots to talk about! Ambiance was classic steak restaurant with lots of wood and deep red decor. I'll be back!!!!

Came with my son to Chapel Hill for a Minnesota Gopher UNC football matchup. We were looking for a nice Steakhouse with a solid wine list. We found that at Bin 54. I was just a bit hesitant as our Uber pulled into a strip mall and I'm wondering where is the restaurant. It's a nondescript mall but once you walk in you are transformed into a cozy comfortable upscale steakhouse. The service was so friendly. From the host to server to sommelier. Everyone was casual professional. I really like that style of service. Our Sommelier guided us to a robust Cabernet Franc that paired nicely with our steaks. The steaks were prepared to a perfect medium rare and for the quality of the cut I thought the prices were on the reasonable end of the scale. It was packed so put in a reservation early and Bon appetite!!

The reservation was made on open table. We dined in for NYE, and there was a short wait to be seated. I have fallen deeply in love with Bin54. My friend and I split the 22 oz ribeye. So flavorful and delicious. The best steak I have had all of (2022). Everything we ordered at our table was top-tier in taste. I love that Bin54 has a sommelier available to provide expert knowledge. I believe my friend ordered the Vouvray, which my friend loved. It was her taste for white wine. I'm more of a red fan, so I opted for a French 75 and a dirty martini which were both delicious. The service here was impeccable and as expected for fine dining.
