Would like to say I even got to try this place, but didn't get the chance before being completely turned off by it. This is a review of the kind of service you can expect if you come here. We stopped by after passing it on the trail for months. I had checked it out on Yelp and had seen the owner's rude responses to customers that didn't likehis business; so despite wanting to support local businesses, I had been a bit hesitant to try it (there's really nothing more icky than someone who can't take criticism, especially on an app created for people to leave reviews). The place is always pretty dead which is usually our jam, but I wanted to take a look at their beer selection before committing. The guy at the front explained the concept (nothing new to anyone who's into beer/wine, which they sell by the ounce). They have what looked like a really nice selection of beer, cider, etc. and we definitely would have been back had the guy at the front not been so rude. It's very uncommon to see a Belgian Trippel in the states and I'm always on the look out since it's one of my favs. When I saw they had one, I was pretty excited but the tap was out and all it said was the beer type, not the brewery or country it was from. Out of curiosity I asked the guy which brewery it was from and he very rudely replied, "I don't know ma'am, we have over 60 taps." No offer to check, no "Hmm I'm not sure," just a straight up condescending dismissal. Just the way he said it, I was honestly very caught off guard. And it's not like he was slammed with customers because the place was, as usual, empty; guess that's one way to treat a potential customer. Not to mention it shows they know nothing about beer. I wouldn't expect the employees or owner to know every single beer on tap (they had several IPAs for instance), but I would expect someone who knows beer to take notice of such a hard to find beer. Needless to say, we won't be spending a cent here. Wonder if me providing an honest review of the service will lead to the owner threatening to sue me for defamation like he did another reviewer? Will post an update if that's the kind of response I get.

absolutely love this place. such a great idea of self serve beers, wine, and kombucha. it's the perfect opportunity to try new beers or wine without having to get a whole glass. love that they play the astros games and hosting yoga events in the yard.

Very good service and a great concept it was a good hang out if you don't mind being in a very loud environment. The appetizers we good but not memorizable. I'd try it again when it's not too busy or if the can manage to open up the place up to some outside seating .

They have a pretty interesting concept of pouring your own beer or wine (or hell mix the two) and getting charged by the ounce that I haven't seen in Houston before but apparently it's a trendy thing that they have in Austin and other places. I'm not a beer drinker anymore and can't keep up with all the different microbrews and what not so this is right up my ally since I can just sample all the different beers without much commitment. How it works is you go and give your credit card, get another card like you would at a Chuck E Cheese and use that card to run up your tab. Then when you're done, you go back and close out or if there is a long line or something, just drop off their card in one of the self-checkout bowls they have according to how much tip you want to leave. Unfortunately for me, both times I've been here, it's been hot and humid so the patio wasn't that pleasant but they leave bug spray on the tables for you to use which is nice. It's dog friendly too. They have indoor seating too but I'd imagine the patio is better once the weather gets cooler.

Absolutely awesome place to hang out in the Heights! The atmosphere is so like country within the city with an outdoor fire place and some of the best craft beers, ciders, and wines in Texas! Maximillio is an awesome guy and recommended some delicious ciders for me! Will def be back for more;-) They also had a food truck called the Nacho Wagon. It was amazing as well!

I stumbled upon Benny Thunders one day while walking the heights (which gives them an A+ for location alone) and it was fun!! My friend and I went in for wine + beer on tap and had fun playing along in their trivia night! I loved it so much I went back the following night for yoga on the deck!

A dog-friendly neighborhood oasis, Benny Thunders is a quaint self-pour pub tucked away in the Heights. They offer a great selection of well-known breweries and a few lesser known (at least, to me). They cater to all the right needs of urban-dwellers: food trucks, good drinks, and one day, when the weather works in our favor, a host of outdoor activities (giant Jenga, cornhole, outdoor seating). A marvelous little shoutout to the manager: we tried to call before arriving and the calls weren't getting answered. The manager went out of his way to actually call us back. I, for one, am in love and will return as often as possible.

My new favorite place, especially since it's a five-minute walk from my house! First, the concept is really cool and fun. I really like that each selection has information about it on the screen, which makes it easier to know what you're getting. Second, the selection is great and it's fun to get a flight and try a number of different things. I've had some good (and not so good) stuff that I probably would have never tried if I had had to commit to a full glass. Easygoing atmosphere with a lot of outdoor seating. Dog and kid friendly, although I don't know why people would bring their infants to a taproom. Not a ding against BT, just the kid who threw the playing cards all over the place. Located right on the Heights Hike and Bike trail, it's a great friendly spot to have a drink and relax.
