Finally got a chance to try this spot! Drive past here A LOT on my 105 commutes & had it bookmarked for months. Came here with a buddy for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was a little packed not nearly as bad as Saturday afternoons (line out the door, down the block). Least we didn't have to wait outside lol.Anyway, grabbed a 2-meat plate with brisket and a cheddar jalapeño sausage. My buddy grabbed turkey & side I got the last cheddar jalapeño sausage, he got a cheddar sausage. Sides, I grabbed the cheesy tater casserole & Cajun rice (it may have been called something else, I forgot).Let's start with the sides. Both phenomenal! The cheesy tater casserole was something I never had before, took a chance and glad I did. Very soft and well seasoned with a light crunch from the tater tots. The rice was perfectly seasoned with a light spice. The sides set the tone for the meal without a doubt. On to the more important part, the meat! Brisket was incredibly tender. I asked for a fattier cut which practically melted in my mouth. Good, balanced seasoning. The sausage was good too. Not too greasy or dry and well cooked. I tried my buddy's cheddar sausage & it was missing the "pop" in flavor that mine had. We were both more impressed with the cheddar jalapeño sausage. My only gripe: I'm a BBQ sauce guy, especially when it comes to brisket. I wasn't a fan of their house BBQ sauce. It was a strong mustard-base sauce. It could use improvement IMO. But otherwise, great meal here! Can't wait to return.

Bar-A-BBQ is located in Montgomery, TX, birthplace of the Texas Lone Star Flag. As a BBQ fan and Texas Monthly follower, I couldn't wait to visit this establishment. We arrived at 11:12 on a Saturday and there was already a line of approximately 20 people. 26 minutes later, at 11:38, we made it to the counter to place our order. My sister and I shared the 2 meats/2 sides plate and we selected the 'lean' brisket in lieu of the 'moist' brisket, pork ribs, cheesy tater casserole and brisket dirty rice. We also ordered two sweets: palmer's banana pudding and honey butter cornbread. The 'lean' brisket was very tender, packed with flavor, and every bite was savory. I'm not really a fan of pork, but the pork ribs were very good. Very elevated compared to other pork ribs I've had. The cheesy tater casserole was dense and the flavors in it complemented each other. The brisket dirty rice reminded me of flavors from Louisiana and I really enjoyed it. The banana pudding, which was light and had a smooth texture, was different, but not sure if I was a huge fan of it. The honey butter cornbread was amazing! It paired well with the BBQ and other sides. Inside the restaurant you'll find ~ 7-8 tables, but they have additional seating outside under some big trees, so there is plenty of shade. Every associate we interacted with was friendly and attentive. If you're a BBQ lover, you owe yourself a visit. It's legit. Peace!

I've been a big fan of Bar A BBQ for a while now. We visited them several times when they were just a trailer at Meadow to Market. Once they moved to their current location on Eva Street in the heart of Montgomery, I've probably been a half dozen times. Caleb is usually behind the counter & always greets you with a smile. Occasionally, I've had Shelby plating. No matter who, it's always been with a friendly smile. The menu is pretty self explanatory, it's on a big blackboard where you order. And if they're out of something, they usually have it posted on the butcher paper. Proteins: they carry the staples in BBQ. Brisket, sausage, pork ribs, turkey, maybe even yardbird (chicken). I'm a brisket fanatic and don't deviate from that. The moist brisket, chefs kiss ! I alternate between the Beefy Texan and the Jalapeño Cheese sausage. Both are good. Side: cheesy taters, Cowboy beans, brisket dirty rice, Mac and cheese, maybe green beans? The Cowboy Beans are good. They're garnished with onions on top, so if you're not an onion fan, be sure to sin cebollas when ordering. Being a big dirty rice fan, I was pumped when they added their brisket dirty rice to the menu. It's a hit for me. I love the stuff! Cheesy taters are delicious. Can't vouch for the green beans as I'm not a green bean guy. The only thing that might be better than the food & the people is the music they play. Not many places will you hear the Turnpike Troubadours followed by Shane Smith & The Saints. It's not a "cheap" meal & the menu isn't extensive, but it's quality food done right. While the menu might not have all the choices you see at other places, the Bar A folks turn out really quality food, done right. I don't think you'll regret it.

Bar-A-BBQCooper you got something special here BrothaWelp started My BBQ series today, and of course, the BarABBQ Bros did not disappoint in the slightest. I will say this Cooper and Caleb are some super dope A$$ dudes I've been there twice now and they always show love and that just shows me the type of dudes they are.Now guys they had "special stuff" happening today when I arrived that solidified what I thought lol. I've been in Texas now since 98 or 99 I don't remember but don't matter lol In those 20-plus years I've had nothing but BBQ It was so bad that I thought to myself that "Texas BBQ" was overrated Af and I mean as far as Conroe, Willis, Montgomery lol nobody around us has made real Texas bbq and I'll stand on that hill lmao. Their storefront now will easily make them a Texas top 50 spot.Review time Brisket: 9.8/10 it was seasoned and smoked to perfection and has a great balance of SPG it definitely passed the brisket pull test and I've said this before so I'll leave just an emoji Ribs: 9.5/10 tender but not fall off the bone tender they were sweet and savory and that's truly the only way I eat my ribs.Honey Cornbread: 9.9/10 like wtf this was a Thicc A$$ piece of cornbread that was sweet moist and perfect. Y'all don't understand how obsessed With bread I am this just gave me all the feels Overall: 100/10 First of all Miss Shelby I tip my hat to you ma'am you were moving and grooving all over the place and that smile didn't go away not once specially after the mornings events and shoutout to the tatted little lady on the back lol sorry i didn't get your name you were busting A$$ too I know this review has been long but they deserve and lengthy review. Sidenote: highlighted the standouts but everything was top tier!#supportlocal #explorepage #fyp #foodlover #bbq #foodblog #conroe #explore #montgomerycounty #texasbbq #montgomerytx #bbqlife #foodie #foodreview #foodcritic

First trip to Bar A BBQ and am glad I finally stopped by. There was 7 of us after Saturday morning grandkid basketball games. We ordered Brisket, both types of sausage, pork belly, and Chicken along with sides of Brisket Dirty Rice, Macaroni and Cheese, and Tater Tot casserole.I rate my BBQ visits on the brisket and sides typically. This moist brisket was basically perfect. Perfect "moistness" without being too fatty. Great flavor without sauce. The mac and cheese and dirty rice sides were outstanding. The Tot casserole was a little bland, so we won't get that one next time. The pork belly was a special and it was excellent both with and without sauce. Crispy on the outside, and luscious in the middle. I skipped the sausage, but the family said it was excellent. The chicken was addictively good. They also slid in some sort of dessert for free. Tasted like a cornbread bread pudding. Just the right amount of sweetness. Really Really good. The serving line was a little slow, but that might be expected during the Saturday lunch rush. Good amount of seating in the restaurant and plenty of picnic tables out back where we sat. Great BBQ, within 20 minutes of the house, so we will be back the next time we get the smoked meat itch!!

Why 5 stars? Because things are in even better and the brick & mortar! --- --- ---We visited Bar A BBQ several months earlier when it was merely a food truck. We enjoyed our experience, but definitely knew that the restaurant itself was going to have more potential. When we visited the truck, it was really cold outside, so we opted to drive home and eat it. While it was still great, the restaurant experience was obviously on a different level. The difference in temperature from our food truck visit to our restaurant visit could not have been more on the opposite end of the spectrum. Probably the only downside to the restaurant is that the A/C was not working well, which resulted in a lot of indoor sweating. But you know what? It was worth every bead. We arrived around noon on a Saturday and probably waited a solid 45 minutes to an hour in line. Just a warning for anyone planning a trip here: come early or be prepared to wait! Word has gotten out that Bar A serves some amazing food!We ordered everything on the menu other than chicken and sausage.5-stars: -Brisket, Ribs, Cheesy Taters and Honey Butter CornbreadThe meat stands on its own. It was such a nice bonus to get a slice of brisket while we were waiting for in line. It looked and tasted like it was oozing with butter. The ribs are among the best I've had in the Houston area. But a very important thing to acknowledge is that the cornbread might have to be a part of my last meal list if I ever find myself on death row. DO NOT come here without ordering the cornbread! The 4-stars: -Turkey, Cowboy Pinto Beans, Green Bean Casserole and Banana PuddingI am just not a huge turkey fan in general, but this was about as great as turkey could be. For everything else listed here, it was all enjoyable, but just overshadowed by the greatness listed above!3-stars: -Chocolate Chip CookieIf the only thing you don't love from a restaurant is a cookie, it's probably a good sign. For those who live a bit to the south, Bar A BBQ is worth the drive up to Montgomery! It is definitely on the Mount Rushmore of Houston BBQ!

Classic Texas BBQ. Awesome spareribs. Good brisket. Beans ain't bad. Nice atmosphere. Plenty outdoor seating. Con: Service is slow... every other TX BBQ by the time I tell them what meats... it's already on a plate. Good portions. Weekends they have a beef rib that looks like a good hunk of prime rib.

This is truly some of the best of real Texas BBQ. There is a reason they are a Texas Monthly top 25 BBQ joint. I have been here several times and have had many items. Enjoyed them all . The BEEF RIB is on point and you will struggle to find a brisket so moist with an amazing bark anywhere else. The food is always so fresh. You can tell Bar A puts in hours of hard work preparing to serve their wonderful offerings. Montgomery is very fortunate to have this family in the community. Cooper, Caleb and all the folks that work there are great. They make the BBQ experience extremely enjoyable. Plenty of room there with tables inside and out. Parking is plentiful with the lot next door. I highly recommend a visit to this BBQ joint. Especially on Smash-burger Day!!!See y'all there!!!
