First time trying Ethiopian food. Ordered the meat sampler and veggie sampler and was a great choice to be able to try everything. Loved the spices! My husband is not a fan of trying new foods and he even agreed was good!

Highlight of the week: Awaze tibs(Eritrean/Ethiopian) as recommended by a work friend. Such a flavorful dish. No utensils provided. You basically eat with the injera. Sooo delicious!Apart from the food, the hostess (and I think she is also the owner, server) warmly welcomed me. The restaurant is nice and clean. Prices are great and reasonable. This place just made it to my Travel Foodie Faves folder and that should tell you a lot. Wish I lived closer. I'll definitely be back in June.

Great service and great food. It's ALWAYS fun to eat with your hands, yeah no utensils allowed. Just injera which is a spongy flat bread which is PERFECT for sopping up the gravies & sauces. I'm always pleased with the options of meats & veggies. Shiro & anything Gome. being some of my faves

Came here with my Foodie Group and it was almost everyone's first experience with the Cuisine. I ordered the Veggie Platter and my son ordered the weekend special of the Z Kitfo. Everything was so flavorful, the Red Spicy Lentils and the Collards were the favorite things on my plate. My sons meal was so incredibly flavorful and the Injera was very nicely prepared and had a nice flavor to it.I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of flavors for all of the different components. The owners were very nice and attentive.I recommend this establishment and willbe back to try other dishes.

My husband and I are both fans of Ethiopian food and were pleased to find a place that was good for meeting a friend for dinner. She had never had it before and is always up for a new flavor extravaganza. We were all delighted. Two of us got the vegetarian sampler and one got a chicken dish. Rolls of injera on a plate between us were just enough for everyone to wipe up every drop of deliciousness. One of the advantages of Ethiopian cuisine is that it really does accommodate any dietary requirements. Injera is naturally gluten free and you can find literally any kind of protein to suit you.

I'm so pleased that there is a quality Ethiopian restaurant where I travel to for business from NY. Living in Long Island, there is not 1 Ethiopian place... NYC has 1 or 2 and I have to go to a great one in Stamford CT to enjoy... but I digress...Awaze is excellent, really taste the home made nature of this delicacy. I ate the meat and the vegetable platters and they were both great. They provide you with an abundance of injera and it's all done really well. Will be returning.

This place isn't just a gem it's a DIAMOND in Cary. There is something really, truly special about this unassuming and cozy family owned Ethiopian restaurant from the way the food feels like a hug to the personalized service you will get each and every time. Like many people I had never had Ethiopian food before but the owners are so happy to talk you through the menu and suggest things based on what you like. There are so many delicious beef, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options that at this point choosing is the hard part!!! The flavor of the food is rich and unique depending on this dish. My personal favorites are the beef awaze tibs which has a hint of spice. I love to scrape all the sauce up with the special Injera bread that comes with each meal! The injera is and unleavened bread that is so unique to the cuisine and must be tried!! My husband loves the Derek tibs and my vegan friend always comes with us as this is one of the few places he can get real food offerings. The shiro wat chickpea dish is like an Ethiopian version of hummus that I adore. Their vegetarian platter is also worth getting vegetarian or not.

The place is located in a convenient strip mall; plenty of parking! As soon as we walked in, there was pleasant music playing, decor was nice and colorful, seating area was spacious. We noticed takeout ordered ready before our food arrived, makes me think they may take takeout orders earlier (but open at 11:30am on Saturday's). Below are the items we ordered with review:- traditional black coffee: they showed us how beans are roasted. This was really good strong coffee!- veggie platter: this wasn't so good. The curries were not flavorful or some had too much salt. Only the dish that's a little reddish was somewhat good- doro wat: not bad, the gravy was good but chicken could've been cooked to be tender. - injera: this was very disappointing, usually it comes fresh and warm, but this one was cold and dry. It was so sour tasting that ruined the taste of it with the curries. Also: it didn't come in a big round plate, which is what I've seen at other places and in the pics for this place. Not sure if the lunch portion is different from dinner. Overall the experience was disappointing! I'm willing to try other Ethiopian restaurants in the area but not sure we'll come back to this one!
