I frequent here once a week. As usual, they have amazing food and the ambiance is wonderful, but this time I found out they now sell birria tacos! I know most of the servers there and everyone is always super friendly. So if you need some good Mexican food, come to El Portrillo in John's Creek!

3 1/2 stars. What to say about El Potrillo. In my opinion, the food is sometimes delicious and sometimes just ok, however, I have a lot of friends and family who deem this the best Mexican food around. They admittedly have outstanding fajitas and I like their refried beans, which is like, not something I usually enjoy. I think it's because they put their queso on top (as they do for almost every dish.The problem, though, is the service. It's terrifying. The takeout is equally tragic. I recommend triple-checking that they've given you the correct order before leaving. Overall, a place with a lot of potential, hopefully, they'll soon live up to it.

The place was crowded so we sat at the bar. We ordered some Chiro Cheese as an appitizer and then a "Texas bowl", and I had the Rib-eye and Shrimp with Rice and beans and totillias. App was fine. Food was cold. Ice cold to the touch. I asked then to touch it and explain WHY it was so cold and no tortillias? They took it to the back and stuck it in a microwave and broght it back hot and rubbery and said, "Enjoy" Not exactly what I call good customer service nor is that proper edicate for returning a plate. Sad because the menu looks great but doubut we'll ever return.

The food was wonderful. My son doesn't like rice but he loved their rice. They had a unique menu and had a variety bowls and burritos which were really good. The service was great and the restaurant was very nice. Great date night place.

Just went in and sat at the bar. They immediately took my beer order and gave me a food menu. Then I sat there for 25 minutes attempting to make eye contact and flag down any of the 5 people going back behind the bar. No one ever took my order, I just sat there with my beer glass until I got the host to close me out. Still had to pay. Still hungry.

Yes."Carne asada arrives with no evidence of marinade or use of a grill.Half of it is unchewable scrap and ended up in the corner of my tortilla plate.Well at least they got my $16.On the positive side, the salsa had the good Americanized traditional taste you grew up with. The flavor that's hard to make at home or find in a jar.
