Amala Zone

Amala zone is it's not nice looking inside the people who work there not very nice but the food is good so it's like one of those places where I go over and over and I don't expect of service. But really we've got to do better Black people especially as Nigerians. I don't usually sit and eat anymore because of Covid and nobody wears a mask which is fine for people who don't care, and be because it's usually a thing where people are bothering me to open up an account of Nigeria or send money to Nigeria I'm not doing that.I would still go back over and over because the food is good but not sure if I can recommend to friends!

This is a home away from home. The meals are so tasty and it's like you are back in Nigeria. They had our local dishes and my friend and I were NOT DISSAPPOINTED. I will definitely go back again and again. 5 star is indeed an understatement. It is Worth MORE. Please note that I did this review in All HONESTY. The restaurant is not aware but my excitement at discovering this homely food joint made me put this up.I really commend the owner and their warm and friendly employees. Food is pricey but Worth the money!!

Off of westheimer Rd and Hwy 6, right by West Oak Mall, this spacious restaurant is new to the area where 2 other Nigerian restaurants exists within a couples miles radius. The place is quite big, clean and comfortable. They have a whole cleaning kit at your table, quite impressive! Food was awesome, jollof rice out of this world. Went back another time and the food was just as good as the 1st although we chose diff meals this time. Being a novice when it comes to African food, I've always sworn by jollof rice and didn't think anything else would be as good...until I tasted his meal, the yam porridge OMG. I've been missing out! He had Amala and I forget the stew's name. All yummy! Only drawback is the customer service. The servers were kind, but lacked professionalism. Hopefully that will change in the near future. Def recommend this spot!

I know what I look like, but I'm no stranger to African food. I love it all - designer stew, egusi, fish pie, all of it. I was excited to try this place while I was in the area for work as it had been recommended by a coworker. My boyfriend isn't familiar with Nigerian cuisine and I had planned on getting him a plate to try as well. Imagine my surprise when I go to order and there is no jollof rice, no coconut rice, and no fried rice. Only white rice. That doesn't even compare to the smell of the building, which smelled like something dead or rotten. That should've been my first cue to leave, but I went ahead anyway because I was low on time.I ordered goat stew with white rice and a side of spinach. The goat pieces I received were not only small, but were mostly fat and skin, and very chewy and tough. There was hardly any edible meat.When I ordered it, the woman behind the counter asked, "What are you going to eat with it?" You tell me, ma'am, as I was clearly out of options.Over $30 for a few bad cuts of meat, plain rice and spinach. I did tell her she could choose my meat cuts, but I didn't think she'd do me like that.I sat and ate a bit there, but did not stay long as the rotten smell was very unappetizing. Goat pieces I could eat were okay but lacked spice. Spinach, the same.Even though this was recommended by my friend, I will not be back. I feel like I was given a poor experience because they didn't know I had any background knowledge on what good Nigerian food tastes like.

I use to come to this restaurant twice a week in 2020 and 2021 but when I went tonight the smell almost killed me when I walked in. It smelled very spoiled and unkept. So I didn't stay to sit down and eat. The food looked like it hadn't been rotated and there was no rice to be served to me. My meal was still $17 and all I had was 3pcs of meat and 2 Pcs of Pomo. The cashiers breath also smelled sour. I left very mad and gave my food away because when I got outside the bag smelled spoiled. This place has extremely went downhill and it's not fair that ppl work hard for good quality food and restaurants and they're not getting that. I'd rather take my money elsewhere.

Honestly the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. The customer service was appalling. The staff rolled their eyes at us for no reason when we asked what a food item was. They served us two plates of food and then charged us $70 for it. I also forgot to mention that the food was terrible. I'm so disappointed.

I walk in and no one was there to greet customers, so I decided to sit myself. Finally, the waitress comes around and informs me that this is, "African food." No shit? Imagine the surprised look on my face as I told her, " yes, that is why I'm here." The jollof rice wasn't spicy enough but the 2 very small portions of beef was pretty good. I had much better Nigerian food elsewhere.I have yet to walk in any food establishment in the past just to be told the type of food they serve. Why she had the need to inform me is my guess. If I walk in a Chinese restaurant, I've never been told that they serve Chinese food. Go figure.... I won't be back ever.We live in a city so diverse, yet we aren't welcome to try new foods nor be welcomed in...I'm very disappointed.

The food looked dry , it's been out all day we wanted the egusi but it didn't looked pleasant to even order.

Driving up there is plenty of parking. It's really like the only thing around. You walk in and it is set up kind of like a fast casual. You get in line and order then pay at the end of the line then sit where you want. It is kind of confusing though.. I'm not Nigerian and it was my first time coming here, there is no menu that I could find so I didn't really know how to order. The lady serving the food wasn't helpful at all but another patron in line kind of explained.The gist is you can order some Amala (the smashed yam balls) and a soup/broth thing and a meat or you can get Jollof rice and a meat. That's the basics. Then I think you would get egusi or other things separately. They have fish, goat?, chicken, beef? And some vege options.We got the Amala and chicken in this green broth thing. To be honest the Amala was ok and the chicken was ok. The reason I gave this place 4 stars was because of the jollof rice! It was so good. The fish was also very tasty. Best jollof rice I've had in Houston so far tbh.Grab some rice and fish and a bowl to wash your hands and you're set.The price is kind of expensive surprisingly but it's overall ok. I'd recommend trying it but not sure if I'd go frequently.

Stopped by for Amala and it was so delicious but no surprise there. It wasn't too spicy so it's a perfect place for people that don't like spicy food.
