I've tried many sushi restaurants around Houston, but Akiko has consistently been one that I find myself returning to every so often. Don't be fooled, the quirky location of the restaurant is tad bit odd seeing that it is slightly tucked into a corner of a shopping plaza, but the quality of their food and the inviting atmosphere once inside makes it a hidden jewel. It shares parking with other stores in the shopping plaza, but the parking lot is huge and unmarked, so you can practically park anywhere. My partner and I eat here so often that I suppose we can consider ourselves regulars. Once you take a step inside, you're greeted by a friendly servers who have almost always been able to seat us immediately. The restaurant is mid-size and can accommodate groups, but I would definitely call to confirm if it's more than a group of 4. The atmosphere of this family-run Japanese restaurant is warm and inviting with a strategic use of ambient lighting, and you can also see the chefs preparing your food behind the bar.In regards to food, the quality of the fish and ingredients is pretty high up there, especially for such an affordable price point. My partner and I love getting the Nemo Roll, Dragonball Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and Spicy Yellowtail Roll, and this perfect mix of sweet and savory is more than enough to satisfy both our sushi cravings. Others that I have taken here have gotten their calamari, hibachi, and various nigiri pieces, and they have also really enjoyed their food. A small detail that distinctly stands out to me is that their dishware is gorgeous, heavy, and nice quality, which enhances the presentation of their food and I feel makes the experience quite elegant. Service-wise, the restaurant servers have always been super friendly, attentive to your dining needs, and are quick to refill drinks. A nice little treat that I personally enjoy is getting one of their free candies at the reception counter which helps me to clear my palette after tasting so many rich flavors. Overall, I love coming to this Akiko and so has everyone I have taken here, and for all the right reasons. Akiko quickly became one of my go-to comfort restaurants for my sushi cravings and continues to be to this day.

Amazing dishing and such helpful servers. The volcano roll is enormous and they light the mayonnaise on fire at your table on this roll.The crazy salmon roll spectacular the fish is super fresh the cream cheese definitely adds a nice touch to this item on the menu.The monkey brain outstanding! The spicy salmon on one side the avocado on the other side rolled up and fried with excellent sauces I believe in eel sauce and some other kind of sauce all over the top superb! And it's humongous just like all of the other roles definitely enough to share.The salmon dinner comes with sauteed vegetables and rice and soup and salad. After the rolls I couldn't even eat this part of the meal but the salmon was cooked nicely the vegetables were crispy and excellent the soup was a bit watered down as well as the dressing on the salad.The yellowtail sushi was exquisite there wasabi is not on the hot side so definitely get extra if you want to spice things up a little bit.Overall this place is an adorable small sushi spot tucked in the corner of the big shopping center you will enjoy if you have to wait a while to be seated the food is very much worth it enjoy

5/5 experience!Decided to give Akiko a try after seeing the reviews and being in the Meyerland area. Akiko is tucked into a shopping plaza that contains JCPenney, Target, H‑E‑B and more!When I first walked in, I was immediately greeted by a nice staff member who brought us to our seats. The interior of the restaurant has a modern tone and you could tell that everything was clean. I decided to try with one other person the salmon and hamachi sushi, alongside the dragonball roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy hamachi. Everything was so fresh and I feel that the prices are very reasonable for what you get! The dragonball roll was very tasty, good size, and I loved that they put a generous amount of eel. For the salmon belly sushi, the fish melts in your mouth and was a great cut of fish. The hamachi sushi had a fresh taste to it and overall I enjoyed that as well!We also decided to try the spicy salmon and spicy hamachi rolls and those were great as well! I appreciated that they put a generous amount of fish inside and that the spiciness was at a right level that was not too overwhelming or underwhelming. I also want to comment on the dishes these items were served on as they used nice heavy pieces of ceramic plates to serve these items.I honestly can't wait to be back! The waiter was amazing and constantly checking in on us. I can definitely see this being one of my favorite places to come eat! Found Akiko on Yelp and wanted to try because it has such great reviews. I came around 4 pm on a Friday and sat at the bar. Service was fast and attentive, but it also wasn't super packed. Lots of specials on the board which I appreciated, but I ordered from the menu. Regular, house sake- Exactly as I would expect. Hot & Tasty. Dragonball Roll- The description says it has "red snapper, avocado& crabmeat". Normally, when a roll says "crabmeat" it is actual crab, not imitation. I was disappointed with this roll because if the crabmeat and the snapper. I wish I would have known it was cooked snapper (it was good, but when I go to sushi restaurants, I prefer raw sushi) Sakura Roll- Tuna, salmon and avocado lightly fried. This was an okay roll. I can't really articulate exactly what was missing, but it just wasn't my favorite. I ended up not ordering anything else because the food left some things to be desired for me. This could have been an off day, but unfortunately, not a place I see myself visiting again.
