Stopped in by chance while attending the Flower Show. The place doesn't look overly impressive but don't let that fool you! I had a GREAT hot dog and my partner had a Philly Cheese Steak that was terrific. Great service, too. Highly recommended when you want a great sandwich.

Delicious Texas weiners done right! I have been going to this place off and on for 25 years: quick service, pleasant folks, clean establishment. Stop here if you are in downtown Philly and looking for reasonably priced delicious lunch foods.

APJ Texas Wieners is a little hole in the wall that I'm guessing has been around a really long time at its north of Market Street location. It's the kind of place when you sit at the counter, you will observe regulars coming in and out. Most customers are recognized by the couple running the café who know what their customers are eating and drinking before they even order. It seems people from all walks of life patronize here. Well on the food front, the hot dog or eponymous Texas Wiener was actually pretty good. The fish cake though was only okay...not as 'fishy' as I like. Everything appeared to be kept very clean. And best of all, a lunch or snack here will be kind on your wallet. The prices are def on the totally inexpensive side. I guess these are the reasons why this 'hole in the wall' survives despite being so close to the crowded Reading Market.Note - I don't think I've ever included a spelling lesson in a review before so here's a first. The correct spelling of the main food here is Wiener (not Weiner). Wiener indicates that something has its roots in Vienna which the hot dog has. Weiner indicated that something has its roots in wine which the hot dog really doesn't derive from although I have eaten wieners with wine in my life. Americans have constantly mixed up the spellings Wiener and Weiner for generations so you will see both used - but with my Viennese connection, I def have to use 'Wiener'!!

When you enter, you will notice a row of bar-type counter seating. Further down, there are late tables where groups can sit. I loved the charm.I ordered a few Texas Wiener dogs with cheese - here are my thoughts. I like the way they cooked the wiener by splitting them and grilling them. Taking this approach is a great way to enjoy a hot dog, but I like my franks more charred when cooking with this method. The chili was good and had a little spice to it - thumbs up. I didn't like the bread though. While the bread was soft, I felt like there was too much bread which takes away from the inside of the dog. The cheese is sliced cheese - not grated, not squirted, etc. The cheese coupled with the bread made it seem more like a sandwich than a hot dog.In any case, the staff was VERY friendly and the place was clean. Because of the location, lots of law enforcement were dining here so it feels safer than other locations. Minus one star for not taking credit/debit cards. Even food trucks accept them these days...

I just found this place via Yelp actually. Otherwise its a small business hidden on a side street. I've only eaten here once and it was take out, but the food was so good I am inclined to give a review already. If latter visits disappoint, I will adjust my review.Their featured product- the Texas Weiner- is one of the best hot dogs I've ever had. The chili sauce is going to make you want a 2nd and 3rd. I also grabbed a burger, which was very good itself. You can also get breakfast at any time. I saw others eating it, and their plates full of eggs, bacon, and scrapple definitely made me put it on my to do list.Tasty and very inexpensive food gets 5 stars from me.

Now a long time ago pre 2005 this place or the bail bonds place next to it used to be a black strip club complete with nubian princesses full nude, and shady deals in smoke filled back rooms. Back when they also had a adult book store on Arch. The girls were friendly, the people were nice, although they would pressure the only white guy (me) in the place to buy numbers or packaged goods. (The place used to run numbers back in the day.) Then some developer, decided it was too dangerous for adult novelties, so they leased the place to banks. You know, places that were responsible for the sub prime mortgage crisis and turned out to be much more dangerous to the American public than a titty bar. A strip bar will never (or rarely take a person's house away). However, the only way I would know for sure would be to go upstairs, where that bar had a huge place for lap dances and general dancing.So that was in the back of my head. Along with the name APJ TEXAS Weiners! I thought of two overweight, older, Texas gentleman BBQing with 10 gallon hats, tinted aviator glasses, and bolo ties. And some where on the shelf would be a Texas steer skull. Sadly, this was not the case. I walk in and I am greeted by an Asian gentleman and a Asian lady. He is the cook and she is the order taker. They are both extremely nice and as I look around the place is really clean; someone touched upon this aspect in an earlier review.They counter is to the left and there is a TV with tables slightly past the counter. You can also bring your bicycle in. I ordered a Taylor Ham and Cheese (called Pork roll in Philadelphia) it comes on a kaiser roll. They have other normal diner/American food here, which took me as a surprise.The taylor ham was about 1/2 inch thick on a very fresh Kaiser roll. The hot dogs are flesh colored and lightly flavored and about 4-5inches long. They are good for people who might prefer a more delicate tasting hot dog. As for me, coming from Sabrett, Gray's Papya, Fat Mike's and Rutts Hut background, I like a more savory dog. Now, I do not like spicy foods, but APJ's dog tastes more like a delicate baloney than a spicy dog- which is still a good dog if you like that thing. They are cooked split, but there is absolutely no charring going on with the dogs or the Taylor Ham. Now, I also tend to like charring. C'est la vie.However, I will say this, I will be back to try the standard burger and fries. The place looks like they do serve something tasty, I just have to find it.Everything was fresh here. I want to get that point across. But compared to a savory pretzel dog from Miller's Twist with a nice lemonade- this place cannot compete against that kind of flavor. Buttery, spicy, hot, and a nice cold lemonade is a combo killer very few places can come up against - when you're in the mood for such savory fare APJ's will not satisfy. A burger and fries, perhaps you're better off going with that? Only the next time will know for sure.It is a shame they are known for hot dogs, when Miller's Twist serves up unrealistic expectations a mere stone's throw away. However, Miller's Twists hours are another can of worms altogether. I will return APJ, you have not seen the last of me. Three stars are, in no way, shape, or form a bad thing. It was a pleasant experience I just wish I had ordered something more oomphy than so much airy fresh bread for 14 dollars.

Website says they're open at 10am. So I took the children to the restaurant and they were CLOSED!!!! It was very humid and hot outside if they kept the website updated I would've made other arrangements. Very DISAPPOINTED

Average breakfast place. Nothing extravagant and nothing too bad. I have a problem with the black waitress. She is a mess. Attitude all in your face. I can't stand her. I literally stopped going and choose to overpay in the Reading Terminal than deal with her!She needs to not be there. The redhead is awesome and he old ladies are great. Still it seems like I kept having her as my waitress and I have enough on my mind than to have to deal with her shenanigans. She is one of those people that if you attempt to customize your order at all she has a problem with it. Why?! JUST TAKE THE ORDER SHUT UP. Acting like a 4 year old huffing and puffing. Your job is not hard lady!FohToo many nice places in Center City to deal with bad service. It's a shame because everyone else there is nice.

This is hands down one of the best places to get diner food in the city. The hot dogs are great and I usually get one with ketchup/mustard/onions and a chilidog with onions. I guess when the name of the store is called Texas Wieners, it must be good. The food is cheap and the service is pretty fast. Aside from the hotdogs, one of my favs is the turkey club. The turkey club they sell here uses real turkey and not that processed oscar meyer pre-sliced junk that some other places sell. Another thing that's a must try is the "Toasted Corn Muffin" it is to die for. Make sure its Toasted! and you won't be disappointed.
