My husband and I came here on a Friday night and there weren't many guests there. The first floor seatings were pretty much full.As confirmed by the waitress, this restaurant used to be a house but it has been transformed to a nice restaurant with a brick oven in the middle and the kitchen at the back. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. First, we got complimentary bread. I was expecting a warm and crusty Italian bread. To my disappointment, it was dry and cold.Appetizer: fried calamari. Really good, it's not rubbery, nice crunchy batter. It had breaded hot peppers too.Pizza: we chose special of the night: octopus with arugula. It came in personal size, nice thin crush but not burnt. Perfect stretchy dough and it's a light meal.Side order of meatballs: I was told that it came in 3 but actually it came in 2. Our waitress admitted the mistake because the meatball salad comes with 3 meatballs. I think it's a bit expensive $10 for 2. They were definitely home made because one was smaller than the other. They were not dense and fell apart easily. I think they needed more seasoning. My entree was grilled salmon and shrimp with risotto and spinach. The risotto was dense and the protein was bland. Nothing special about it.Tiramisu: served with blueberries. It didn't look like tiramisu at all but It's pretty good.In summary, I highly recommend the pizza as their forte but not the entree.

After the Army Navy game my husband and I just wanted to enjoy a nice meal. We happened upon 1731 ... what a lovely surprise. The restaurant is clean, modern and beautiful (I've never seen a more beautiful pizza oven in my life.) The staff were welcoming and the food was delicious I started off with fried tomatoes topped with a crabmeat and lobster sauce ... delicious and my husband ordered the Mia meatball ... amazing. Between our appetizers and main course the owner, Robin , came to our table and introduced herself. She's very personable and expressed her appreciation we selected her restaurant. For the main course I ordered branzino ... it was the absolute best branzino I've ever had. Trust me if it's on the menu ... order it. My husband ordered the gnocchi, he enjoyed his entree as well. We had no room for dessert but I'll save room when I come back. Note: the restaurant is BYOB and cash only

The food is done right. Especially the fried meatballs. Many places bake their meatballs. Not this place! So good. Check out my video review: https://youtu.be/0HZfNVRuX_s?feature=shared

Overall a positive experience, but not enough to rate it 5 starts. The place itself is nice and clean inside. They have some outdoor covered seating which looked great. We were greeted at the door by the owner, I believe, and our server. Both told us that we could sit at a larger table even though it was only two of us. They were very friendly. The server then told us about the specials and came back later to take our order. Again, the service was friendly, attentive, and not intrusive. I ordered the clams and linguini in red sauce (spicy) and my wife ordered the Eggplant Lasagna. She then brought out some complimentary bread. Small Italian triangles that were really tasty, although only slightly above room temperature. Also included was a focaccia bread with tomato on top. This was ice cold. They have a pizza oven so I'm not sure why they couldn't just put the bread in there for a few seconds to warm both breads up. My clams and linguini though was delicious. The spice level was perfect and the linguini was cooked just the right amount al dente. Frankly, it was one of the best clams and linguini I've had in awhile. My wife enjoyed her Eggplant Lasagna. For dessert, my wife wanted to try the Tiramisu. I did have one fork full and I must say it was great. Very dense in flavor, but at the same time light. As I said overall a positive experience with some exceptions. However, the main issue I had was the price. I know that most BYOBs charge up a bit, and I'm not a cheapskate, but this was a bit too high in my opinion.

This review is far overdue. I've been wanting to eat here for awhile and finally the night came. The restaurant has cool plates and dish ware something like my grandma Yo had in the house for holidays. They have great seats outside, first floor and upstairs. We ate upstairs and it was very nice atmosphere. Music, decor and service were great.!! Very attentive staff .So we started with the fried calamari. It was the best I've had. There were pepper and lemon slices battered and fried in the mix here and there. Really made the app great. Nice twist!!!! Also the antipasto for 2. It was great and there were a lot of items in the antipasto. Some places are lacking ingredients but they made an excellent Antipasto. The main dishes were amazing! My wife got eggplant parm which she said was best she's had at restaurant and I had the clams and linguine in spicy red. I even ordered the bracciole which was served with gravy and ricotta on the plate. It was spot on!! Everything was perfect on my tastebuds. I'll def be a repeat customer . And I didn't feel like it was any price difference than other places. Highly recommend!! My compliments to the chef!!!!

Wow! Instantly fell in love with this ultra Italian family restaurant! Nestled in a little neighborhood with busy streets with scarce parking. We walk in and are immediately welcomed by a lady who was like my aunt. Felt like we belonged there. This 2 story restaurant is delightfully noisy with people talking (not on their phones!). What a breath of fresh air! I with there was a place like this down south. The food was fantastic! Chilean sea bass is so good! Not enough words to describe. Any good Italian restaurant can make a great eggplant parm. Well, 1731 nailed the parm! Perfect portion sizes, great service, beautifully noisy with friends and family in deep laughter and conversations. I didn't want to leave. I would fly back to Philly just to take my wife there for dinner.

The food here is truly the thing. Came here in a party of 9, and we had a blast! We ordered an assortment of starters to share, antipasto plates, fried calamari, clams casino, eggplant rollatini, mussels in red sauce a few other things - and it was ALL delicious. The clams casino and the mussels were especially divine (I ordered the red mussels and refused to share. In fact it was so damn good I had to beg more bread, to soak up every drop!)Then came the entrees: bronzino, pork chop milanese, chicken picante, pappardelle bolognese - I can't remember what each person got, but not a single person was dissatisfied with their meal. I had pasta (cavatell, I think) di mare, and again, my plate was shining clean when I was done.Desserts, coffee - everything was delicious. I think I had some kind of lemon tart, and ate every crumb. The staff is wonderful, both friendly and personable, and owner/manager Robin is exceptional. She took the time to come meet everyone, then tell us about several pieces of furniture (e.g., a chair that was once her grandmother's) along with some amusing anecdotes about putting the whole business together. Kudos to her, her husband and her staff.Let me just close with this: if you want great Italian food in an authentic Philly atmosphere - np, let me rephrase that - in an authentic SOUTH PHILLY atmosphere, in a beautifully appointed setting, you will find it here. I know I will be back.

Had a birthday dinner with family. Service and food were on point. The eggplant app was to die for!! Can't wait to go back and try the pizza. The owner came over to our table afterwards and was very nice!
