I recently went there with a friend for lunch. We had hamachi sushi, spider roll, kimchi hot pot and octopus sashimi. The hamachi and spider roll were both good. The kimchi hot pot was bland and didn't taste much like kimchi. The octopus was rubbery and tough. The waitress was nice and helpful. The sushi chef (We sat at the sushi bar) was not very friendly. The restaurant looked nice

We had previously visited their Tempe location and were thrilled to see that they had opened a new one.It was easy to reserve a table for our 8-person group online. We were there to celebrate a friend's birthday and were stoked to find out about their daily Happy Hour from 3 pm to 6 pm. We took advantage of that! The staff was very friendly and even helped us stash the birthday cake we brought in their fridge. We tried all three types of raw oysters they had, and the Riptide was our fave. While none of the other dishes blew our minds, everything was pretty tasty. The ramen was decent, but the noodles were a bit mushy and the broth was lacking.Zu Izakaya's menu is a mix of Japanese, Korean, ramen, and skewers to choose from. The place has a modern Japanese vibe that is cool and spacious. The only downside was the shared restrooms for both men and women - separate ones would be a nice touch.Special thanks to Zu Izakaya for the complimentary mochi ice cream for the birthday girl.

A friend and I decided to try somewhere new for dinner. This place is ok. The server greeted me quickly at the table and brought waters and then took my drink order. When my friend came the server was quick for her drink order as well. The rest of the service was only ok. Once our food order was taken and brought out the server never came back to see if we needed more drinks or water. The food was average. I had the salmon sashimi and my friend had the salmon nigiri, the salmon didn't seem fresh and a little on the warmer side. The baked scallop roll was good. The sushi rolls are basics and you are charged for each ingredient you want on added to a roll.

Zu IzakayaSpider Roll with ginger and wasubi was a very nice beginning to our meal, nice soft shell Crab and just good eating.Gyozas served in a basket with dipping sauce were very good, nice and Crispy served with a nice dipping sauce. Get'em!Galbi with onions, zucchini and mushrooms served on a skillet with Korean style sweet soy sauce. Galbi meat was on the tough side with a bit too much Korean sweet soy sauce. Almost had to scrape some off. Loved the onions, zucchini and mushrooms on the skillet Service was very good and there is plenty of parking where this location was the old "Shogun"Next time we will expand and try a few other entrees.

1st time here today to meet up with girlfriends, and I'd highly recommend this place! It's only been open 5 months, has fresh and yummy sushi (all 4 of us loved what we got) and it has a beautiful interior.

Was very happy to see that Zu Izakaya was joining the neighborhood. Was even happier to see a designated vegetarian section with more than 2-3 options! I was excited for my first visit and only now wish that I hadn't waited so long! Our visit was for Thursday dinner. I was surpirsed at how spacious the restaurant was, considering how non-descript it looked from the outside. While it was busy, it felt like there was more than enough space to spread out. The restaurant was clean and the service was attentive. Moving onto the menu - aside from the sushi, there are a myriad of small plates to choose from. Ranging from traditional Japanese items such as takoyaki to more Americanized appetizers such as mozzarella sticks. We opted for the Agedashi tofu (sans fish flakes for vegetarians) and veggie gyozas. We also ordered the vegetarian roll, sweet potator roll, and tofu tempura roll, which all hit the spot. The menu also offer things like hot pot, udon, skewers, and grilled meats. They have a happy hour from 4-6PM with drinks, appetizer, sushi, and dessert deals. I was very happy with my first visit to Zu Izakaya and look forward to many more visits to come!

My friend and I have been here 3 times now for lunch at the sushi bar and absolutely love this place. Sushi chef Alan has taken excellent care of us since the day we met. My friend and I are pretty pure sushi eaters, getting pretty much the same things every time, but I will say the menu makes me want to deviate, so I've been trying new menu items. I personally am a Ramen and noodle soup lover, so I will have to try their soups on the menu in the future. But in the mean time, the Yellowtail, Tuna, Salmon, Sweet Shrimp, Masago, Uni and Eel Nigiri have all been excellent. The grilled Hamachi Kama also excellent. This 3rd. time here I had the Salmon Uni Ikura Don Bowl... loved it. Everything has been very fresh and tasting wonderful. Great neighborhood addition to an area that is changing and growing fast.Atmosphere: big, full bar area, big sushi bar and big dining tables area. Food: excellent. Service: excellent.

Solid modern space. Service was attentive and easy pay. Came here for the tonkotsu ramen mainly. Broth was lack luster of flavor, the noodles were a little over cooked but in a way it made it better because the little flavor the broth had, permeated into the noodles and it made it better somehow. Meat was seared and seasoned perfectly. For the appetizers, I got; Gyoza, Karagge & Las Vegas roll. All fire. Would come back for the appetizers.
