07/07/24 - After a day of shopping @ Woodfield mall we were hungry so we went to Yu's in Schaumburg for dinner. We just ate at the Yu's on Milwaukee in Wheeling about 2 weeks ago and found the food to be pretty good and the service exceptional. I have eaten at this location before (why no review?) & found both the food & service to be subpar and slow. We were seated & sat for a good 10 mins before our server came & took our order. Finally the 2 dishes we ordered came about 15 mins later. The Szechwan eggplant (which we loved at the Wheeling Yu's). This dish was subpar at the Schaumburg location & tasted like it was reheated. The other dish we ordered was the salt & pepper smelt which is one of my favorite Chinese dishes. Smelt is a small fish to begin with. The smelt we received were tasty but about 1/2 the size of the smelt we always order? I don't understand why? This smelt was served on a bed of lettuce which seemed like a filler to bulk up the serving size. Again I never had salt & pepper smelt on a bed of lettuce. The server started out as kind of sullen until later in the meal when it came time to pay & receive a tip lol ). I'm not sure why the drop in food & service quality as I have eaten here before & felt like it was better the last time.On a side note the washroom was filthy. Why isn't there a standard for hygiene? Not fit for human use. They need to have someone to maintain the cleanliness

Well yu's mandarin it's been a while but this is my go too Chinese place when I am in town. Place is still fantastic same inside and out for a long time still looks nice. Let's get to service came in a little later for lunch very attentive and quick service. Pricing on food is still very reasonable about 11 to 12 dollars a person. Food wise I ordered the garlic chicken fantastic flavor comes with fried rice, egg roll and fried wonton good portion for lunch. The person I was with got the Mongolian beef he enjoyed also. The lunch also comes with soup egg drop or hot sour both great. This place still in my top for Chinese you can't go wrong. Will be back soon.

Service sucked on this day I visited. Ordered online as I wanted to get some lollipop chicken and also got a mushroom dish and hot n sour soup. The food is decent - depending on what you get but yeah don't bother with the hot n sour soup. The thing that's messed up.... Got a notification saying food was ready, got there and waited 5 minutes to talk to the person working the counter... was told the food wasn't ready. 30 minutes later I asked if the food was ready, he did a quick check and told me it's not ready.Well, as he was looking for other persons food, he found mine, sitting there getting cold for the last 30 minutes. No apologies nothing and they were nice enough to NOT give me any napkins or utensils!!The guy was more interested in picking up the phone and taking calls than helping the 8 or so folks waiting to pick up their food. They need another person to help out when it's busy.

The food came out pretty good. I was very impressed by the fish, pan fried noodles, and lollipop chicken a lot. The squid and beef was over cooked. However, the service was a bit lacking...Quality- I like coming here for the broiled fish dishes and lollipop chicken. Both are so flavorful and compliment each other well with a bowl of rice. The hou fun and fried noodles are very good. You can really taste the wok hei from the chefs cooking and the textures go great together. Shrimp vegetable sauce dish also goes great with rice. I love the vegetable sauce they create because I can just layer it on top of crispy noodles or rice. I tried two new dishes today, the beef with scallops and the salt pepper squid. Both were over cooked and very salty. I was not a fan of those two. Quantity- what you see is about 150 bucks tips included and can feed a party of 7 people. It is not bad for the price. Atmosphere- I love the view of the chefs cooking. It never gets old. Service- when our party arrived, there were quite a few seats still available but it took a while to get the attention of someone to seat us. That's ok but then when we got seated, they were very slow to get us any tea and we had no refills because they kept forgetting. They also gave us the wrong check so we had to ask for the right one which added time to our stay. And then, we had to ask a few times for boxes to take home left overs. They're quite short staffed during peak dinner time.

Love this place! Probably my favorite Chinese restaurant in Schaumburg. Shrimp fried rice, lollipop chicken, and honey walnut shrimp are always a hit. I have also hosted a party here before and they are very accommodating and super affordable family style.

At all of Yu's locations, it's always fun to observe the wok mastery through a large kitchen window. Their combination lunch and dinner specials are a better deal than ordering a la carte. Lunch entrées, which average $10-$12, include a small egg roll, one wonton, fried rice, and a choice of soup or green salad. I ordered the chicken chow mein and barely finished half of the mountainous portion. The hot & sour soup was excellent. The accompanying egg roll and won ton were not quite as tasty.Like so many restaurants nowadays, Yu's is shorthanded and the servers appear harried. We had to flag down our server several times for items that should've been brought or replenished automatically. If you come here at a busy time, be prepared to wait as they do not take reservations. But Yu can cook!

I'm old school. I've been coming to Yu's with my parents, since they were in the strip mall across the street, in a building that has since been torn down.I know ownership has flipped, but some key dishes have remained largely unchanged. Namely, the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, which was my go-to dish in the early 80's.Since then, there's been some modernization, some Korean influences and dishes, and even a robot going around to serve your food!Favorite dishes for me currently... Szechwan Eggplant, Noodle Soup (spicy!), and Noodle Platter (spicy!), and Salt and Pepper Smelt.Regarding service... this is a Chinese restaurant. You don't come for the service. They want to serve you quickly, so they try to get your order fast and then dishes come out as they're ready. This is not to say that anyone is rude, but don't expect someone to stop by every 5 minutes to ask you if everything is okay.Once you get that, you'll realize that coming to Yu's is about getting excellent food and relaxing with your family. I recommend coming with a big group and big appetites and ordering family style so that you can sample several dishes with several flavor profiles. The cost is higher than the divey Chinese counterparts, but the quality is worth it.

We visited on Christmas Day and it was extremely busy. That being said, we were still able to be seated promptly. While it was difficult to get service (water refills order taken etc) the people here were apologetic, friendly and did eventually get everything taken care of. The portion sizes were big for us to share and take home. Our son enjoyed the "open" kitchen and watching chefs cook food. He also enjoyed seeing the "robot" delivery system. All of our food was to our liking. Some meat quality in certain dishes were better than in others, but still all acceptable. All things considered we were happy and would come back again!!
