Concrete walls, no windows, but fun, simple, hometown ambiance - keeping it real.
Fun little books on the table, to encourage patience while they cook up your custom hommade meal.
Tasty! Open face roast beef (sliced nicely) on toast with mashed potatoes (real mashed - no fake stuff here). Hot & tasty!

Y is for Yarnell, AZ!Continuing with my alphabet series, the second to last letter of the alphabet, Y, was a tricky one. This is the only letter that is not in MD, VA, or DC. Couldn't come up with anything in my part of the country. Yarnell's slogan according to the sign: 'Where the Desert Breeze meets the Mountain Air.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarnell,_ArizonaI'm from AZ, remember when I worked in Prescott, and traveled a few times on that job. One of the times was when I went to the SE part of Yavapai County to an obscure area maybe near Stanton (a ghost town), which was 5 miles down a narrow dirt road with some steep cliffs. Yarnell sits at about 4700' elevation (slightly lower than the mile high city of Prescott) and Stanton is at least 1000' less. So, it was a steep drive down & back up the hill. It had to have been in May 2007...wow 11 years ago. It was sunny & hot that late Spring day...maybe 90 F at Stanton...probably in the low 80's in Yarnell. On the way back to Prescott, I stopped for lunch at the Yarnell Family Diner. I was hungry, and there weren't many choices in Yarnell, a town of only 649 in 2010 census. I remember the sandwich I had was quite good & filing. The staff was friendly.

A great little family dinner, conveniently located in Yarnell. We love to stop in the small towns and patronize the local eateries that keep traveling through on road trips alive and well. This little place has a big menu. The service is terrific. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger with regular fries (although there were many choices in fries - including sweet potatoes). We also ordered the open face roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes. The food was, hot, fresh and hommade, like eating in a family kitchen. The prices are very reasonable (average 9.00 for a good home cooked meal). Rather than eating fast food on a road trip, we suggest spending time in local cafe's and diners - to enhance your experience. Thank you to this lovely little diner.

Nice down home diner! 5 of us rode down from Preskit for breakfast on Friday. Nicely done breakfast with employees wearing masks. Food was good and not overwhelming portions. Server was a nice young gal wearing a R.E.D. RED SHIRT!

We just happened upon this restaurant on our route and had a great lunch. Two had hamburgers that were delicious and just the right ratio of meat to bun with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. The other was a perfect club sandwich. The staff was friendly with quick service. The bathrooms were clean. We enjoyed reading the sayings on the wall plaques and viewing the southwest art. We will stop here again as the breakfast menu looked appealing too.

We were on a road trip just passing through the area and needed a rest stop. Driving slowly through town, looking for a restaurant for the family, I noticed several cars parked outside a restaurant. Must be the local's favorite!!We stopped for a rest and lunch. Restroom facilities were clean, and the staff was friendly. The walls were decorated with a southwest themed mural. The patrons seemed to be local- everyone seemed to know each other. The menu choices were basic diner type options, with some Mexican entrees added as well. My husband had the chimichanga and I had the grilled roast beef sandwich. Both were delicious! Iced tea was served in mason jars- nice touch. The kids had burgers- good food all around!!

I wanted to take a ride today so we headed out of suburban Phoenix to Yarnell. We've passed through it a few times on the way to one place or another. We just had burgers, but they were real burgers, not the flat frozen kind, still juicy. Being Monday lunch it wasn't busy. The waitress was really friendly and attentive and gave us drink refills in to-go cups. I had a nice chocolate pie for dessert and my husband had a handmade milkshake. If you like mom and pop places and feel like a drive, this is a good destination. The town is really small but there are some antique-type stores along the main street. The hours posted on the door were until 3 on some days that Yelp and the facebook page have until 7.
