I only recently discovered Wonton Gourmet, and I'm thrilled about the discovery! There used to be a restaurant in Schaumburg called Hong Kong Cafe, which fulfilled my craving of Cantonese noodles and small dishes. Since it closed, I haven't been to find something similar until Wonton Gourmet. It's generally fast, so you almost have to know what you want the moment you sit down. My favorite dishes so far include roast duck and shrimp wonton noodle (soup), black bean chow fun (the fun noodle was crispy!), and iced honey lemon tea was refreshing for a hot summer day. There are other rice platters (ie a dish and rice). The only think it doesn't have is congee. That would have been perfect!

When you spend most of your life visiting Seven Treasures in Chinatown, there's a void to be filled when the restaurant closes down. We recently went to Wonton Gourmet with our family for dinner and looking at the menu was so nostalgic. Wonton gourmet has its own parking lot with plenty of parking spaces. When you walk into, the inside has wallpapers of photos I believe of Hong Kong and the street markets that really added to the ambience. We were quickly shown to our tables where they brought out water. Our waiter came by and took our order shortly after and our food came out quickly after that. I had been craving my 554 meal, but I loved it with a runny egg so it was more like porridge. It absolutely hit the spot. My parents and my siblings got the wonton soup with extra shrimp dumplings on the side and rave that it's the best they've had since their favorite restaurant closed. All in all, we had a great time, and can't wait to come back for more.

My family loves coming here all the time! My parents have been coming here for YEARS. They never disappoint. They have great, classic wonton soup with different protein options. They also have a large menu of other dishes.

We ended up here because our flight got rerouted and the airline put us in a hotel across the street from Wonton Gourmet. The parking lot was empty and there weren't many people in the restaurant. It wasn't the best looking place when you want to describe ambience. It seems like it might be a family owned business. We ordered the General Tso's chicken, orange chicken and chow mein. We also ordered 3 egg rolls. The food was cooked fresh and very good. We absolutely loved our food. The only thing is my son was confused if he liked the chow mein or the lo mein, and turns out he ordered the wrong one. So he was upset about the chow mein, but it I thought it tasted good. All in all the food was delicious!

Say goodbye to Seven Treasures (because they're officially closed) and hello to Wonton Gourmet, a hidden gem, a hole in the wall! I found out that the owner is the brother-in-law of the former Seven Treasures owner, I knew I was in for a treat. They even offer familiar favorites like the beloved 554! #iykykI started with our basic crab rangoon, which was big and creamy. Then, I ventured into new territory with sweet corn and chicken over rice - surprisingly delicious, especially paired with their delicious chili oil. It almost tastes like chicken porridge with/ corn. Very homey. The shrimp wonton noodle soup was a hit with its bouncy noodles and plump, flavorful wontons. The broth was a new flavor for me. And let's not forget the 554 - BBQ pork and fried egg over rice with ginger sauce. While I missed the sriracha, the dish still hit the spot! But my absolute favorite? The extra crispy chow fun with beef and Chinese broccoli. The texture was just a big wow - I'm officially obsessed! The interior is spacious and clean. They have plenty of parking spaces outside as well. The lady didn't seem very friendly, but the guy who served us was great. Overall, Wonton Gourmet exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to explore more of their menu, especially all the signature items on their glass wall. If you're craving authentic Chinese cuisine, look no further!

I have no problems taking a short drive for good food. Especially since Seven Treasures in Chinatown closed for good. Wonton Gourmet is family to Seven Treasures. A not so hidden gem located in Des Plaines, IL. Alot of familiar favorites like 554 (bbq pork with 2 fried eggs over a bed of rice with soy sauce) as well as the popular BBQ and shrimp wonton noodle soup. Service is a little slow, especially on days that they are packed. But once you order your food, it comes out pretty fast. Our go to dish is the beef chow fun with chinese broccoli. Make sure to ask for the noods to be extra crispy. Its a game changer!! We also enjoy the soy sauce noodles. The beef with tofu was a little on the salty side, but eating it with rice helps tone the saltiness down. i definitely had to chug a few cups of water immediately after. Prices are reasonable, portions are good. Overall a great place to come for chinese food with a small group or a bigger party.

I went here with a group of friends for lunch on a weekday. One of us had contacted the restaurant days earlier to make sure they would be able to accommodate a group of our size. They said yes, but I'll get to that in a moment. The dining room is modern and upscale and the food is Hong Kong-style cuisine with a focus on old school Cantonese. We were disappointed to observe that the vast menu offers neither lunch specials nor lunch-size portions. The carryout/online menu lists both small and large portions, however everything on the dine-in menu--including apps--comes only supersize. Ditto the soups. There was only one server for the entire restaurant, which was filled. Apart from being completely overwhelmed, she was woefully inefficient. It took her 20+ minutes to serve canned sodas. Then, the kitchen churned out apps and entrees in no particular order. Of two orders of egg foo young ordered as entrees, the first one arrived before any other dish, and the second was nowhere to be seen until nearly everyone had finished their entrees. Requests for missing items had to be repeated several times. At least our food arrived hot. Noodle soups and noodle dishes seem to be the most popular items here. Everything else was hit-or-miss. Our entrees ranged from excellent (soups, volcano shrimp) to so-so. My Mongolian beef, sans 'styrofoam' noodles and swimming in a watery sauce, was somewhere in the middle. My egg roll appetizer, which did not arrive until after I was done eating my entrée, was mediocre. Two orders of pan-fried pot stickers went uneaten because their wrappers were doughy, tough and overcooked. The crab Rangoon was a meh. Chinatown quality not.We were not served tea or fortune cookies. At the end of the meal, we asked repeatedly for enough containers and bags for everyone in our party. But for some unfathomable reason our server would bring only a couple containers at a time instead of all in one trip. Duh.

It's been well almost a decade since my last visit ! Well worth trying ! It was extremely busy for a Sunday evening early dinner time (4-6ish). Extensive menu but would highly recommend and suggest trying their signature dishes listed on their glass wall inside. I really enjoy their BBQ pork dishes ESPECIALLY their CHOW FUN. Their noodles are very similar to Lad Nar in the sense they are crispy and soft all at the same time! (Hard and then soft when dipped in sauce) VERY tasty and unique !Service was attentive as well. Solid and strong B+. It's extremely hole in the wall and only by word- of -mouth!

Overall Thoughts: The "sister restaurant" of the recently closed 7 Treasures restaurant in Chicago Chinatown, Wonton Gourmet serves up dishes reminiscent of 7 Treasures such as their signature 554 dish and wonton noodle soup. Unfortunately, they don't have the classic 7 Treasures meat combo dish with crispy pork belly, which was among my favorite things to order there. The prices are also higher than 7 Treasures, though still very reasonable. The service is quick and friendly, and the interior is spacious and nicely decorated. Located next to the 606 bus stop (which departs out of the Rosemont blue line stop), it's convenient to visit even if you're coming here without a car from the city.Food I tried:- Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup with Chinese Broccoli (+$2.75) (4.5/5): The wontons are delicious and taste exactly as they did at 7 Treasures. They're flavorful with thin skin and umami soup, and the noodles soaked up the flavor of the soup quite well.-- Price (relative to peers): 4.4/5Food: 4.5/5Ambience: 4.8/5Service: 5/5Overall Value: 4.5/5
