Willie's Taco Joint

We really enjoyed this taco spot in Phoenix after a suns game last season, as it was conveniently located near the footprint center. (Walkable) The service was very quick, and the ambiance was cute- we sat outdoors and got a cool breeze. We recommend the grilled pollo asado, traditional carnitas, rice, beans, and elote (all pictured). Tip- try to go early and beat the basketball crowd next season!

This place is super cute! It's in a cool area right in downtown Phoenix, super close to the Diamondbacks stadium, Footprint Center, and the Phoenix convention center. The service was good; they were nice but nothing out of the ordinary. I got 2 shrimp tacos - I usually get 3 when I go out for tacos, but they were so expensive!! For just me, I paid like $15, which would have gotten me a full meal at most other restaurants. The tacos were pretty average too, so I'd rather go another place next time I'm looking for tacos based on the taste and the price.

Horrid, location must be key for this subpar restaurant.Bad service & cashiers were talking negatively about customers as they walked by, making comments not ideal for an establishment.

Meh. It was pretty average. I ordered a burrito with the green chile sauce and cotija cheese, and a pink guava jarito drink. As far as the place, I thought it was pretty hot inside. I was sweating bullets when I scarfed down my burrito. Kinda irritating. What annoyed me even more was the employee didn't call me by my proper name. The employee--let's call him "Captain Mix-Up"--decided my name was MIGUEL instead of Michael. Look, amigo, I'm Michael. Not Miguel, not Manuel, not even Montezuma. Just plain ol' Michael. Why do Americans think it's funny to rename brown people Spanish names just because they are in a Mexican Joint? The privelege! WTF? Is it a secret initiation? "Welcome to the Club of Cultural Cluelessness!" Look, fellas, it's not cute. It's like calling a sushi chef "Sriracha" or a French baker "Croissant." Let's stick to real names, shall we?

Lots of misters! People are nice. This was the only restaurant open by the ballpark. Tacos were normal not amazing but I did not like the rice it was very dry and the beans were kinda chalky. The place has a really cool vibe and we will definitely be back here again! Hopefully the rice and beans improve.

A busy, loud fun downtown spot. Right by both stadiums it draws a big crowd. Only a few seats inside but there is outdoor seating w misters. The carnitas is delicious-had both the tacos and burrito and they were very tasty. Also the hot sauces we tried very spicy and saucy and delicious. Also there was security at the door keeping it so it was safe and fun!

Fun little spot to come to when there are games happening or events! Love the fast service always but seating is first come first serve. Normally go for the nachos and the bean and cheese burrito but today we tried the popular taco.

We just happened to be in the downtown phoenix area during the day and right before the Diamond Back's game this last Tuesday and we hadn't eaten all day and since Phoenix has all the best what I thought was Authentic Mexican food we choose to stop in here at Willie"s to try out some of their tacos. I started off by walking in and ordering a strawberry margarita now I always get my drinks blended however in this case they didn't have a blender no blender at a restaurant/bar next door to two stadiums? Ok whatever I got past that and told the bartender that on the rocks was fine as long as I could get the plastic cup rimmed with sugar and she was fine with that $13 later ouch for a small plastic cup. So then we placed our food order I got a two carne asada taco combo but here's where I had the issue one the food came out terribly cold and second the asada was a strange mix of ground asada and chopped that was heavily salted with a Lawry's taco seasoning packet taste I was crazy salty. My boyfriend ordered a asada burrito with the same strange meat in it that was over salted and super greasy to the point of being able to see the grease separating from the seasoning. The ambience is really cool and the cocktail was good but pricy our food however fell super short and I can't in good taste recommend the asada here maybe the chicken or seafood is better? I can't honestly tell you. But if you like good expensive standard cocktails right before a game then this is your place.

I got a free taco from Willie's truck at an event. I was so happy they had a vegan option. It had potatoes, black beans, peppers and flavor in a pink corn tortilla. It was fresh/flavorful without being too greasy. I wasn't able to decide on the salsa options so the vendor gave me the mango habanero. No regrets! Sweet and spicy!I'm not in their neighborhood much, but will certainly keep an eye out for the truck!

My brother was looking for a bar to watch them Man U soccer game and the first bar we went into was enemy territory lol. We kept walking and found this place! They weren't playing the game but they gladly turned it on for us. Everyone was helpful and very welcoming, I'd def return whenever I'm around. Service: 10/10Drink: Virgin frozen strawberry lemonade-- 11/10! Super refreshing and the perfect sweetness. Frozen piña colada-- 10/10! Haven't had a perfect piña colada in awhile. Food: 9/10 CHILI CON QUESO, CHIPS & SALSA-- 7/10; queso was yummy but the chips were too hard for my liking. GREEN BUTCHER TACO--10/10CHILI-LIME SHRIMP-- 9/10Ambiance: cool/family vibes.
