Clean, well organized exhibits. (Yes, some are a tad dated, but nothing egregiously so.)Parking can be a bear, yes, but (again) nothing too bad.Well worth every penny of the (very modest) five dollar admission.Great staff!

I had time during my whirlwind weekend in Wichita, KS, so I decided to take in a museum tour to get in some culture and history at the Wichita - Segwick county museum. I was with a friend, whom wanted to see this place. Only problem was that there is a $5 admission fee attached. My friend paid for me and it was a pleasant experience overall. Wish I did take photos inside, but I probably would have gotten reprimanded for doing so. Either way, it was a nice respite and quiet time for me. The experience taught me some history of Wichita and the surrounding areas, as well as the culture and how life was back in the mid 1850's up till the 1940's. These vintage artifacts are really some of the finest I have seen that could not be found anywhere else - except tucked away in someone's attic or basement! The Wichita - Segwick county museum is located on Main Street in downtown Wichita. They're most likely a non profit organization, which relies on admission fees from the general public and government subsidy. My friend paid cash, so it's not known if they take credit cards. I would assume not. In any case, it was an education in the history of Wichita and it took about an hour or so to go through 3 upper floors worth of historical artifacts and museum collectibles before we made an exit out and back into the swing of things. Not much more is needed to be said about this place. Its a museum where you can travel back in time to relive the glory days of Wichita back when there was no cars or internet. Or even cell phones! All you had were your family, inhibitions, can do attitude, a good work ethic, and your pride. The museum presents itself as clean and very organized, not to mention very meticulous in how everything is displayed. You really step back in time just to see how things were back then and the pride that the museum has for the sterling upkeep is just amazing! Definitely worth the look, if you are in the area. The cost is very minimal, but it would be good to get in some culture and history after hours of driving on the road - either passing through Wichita or staying the weekend.Support local!A

We went to the museum on a Sunday afternoon, and were the the only guests there. Very beautiful and interesting place. The exhibits span 4 floors, all connected by stairs and an elevator. Walking through the building makes you feel like you're back in the early 1900s in Wichita. It was interesting to learn about the city's history. I learned that the word "Wichita" is loosely translated to "many lodges." Some exhibits were under construction when we were there, and others were pretty sparsely filled with antiquities. Some exhibits were pretty dated - namely the films they show on the fourth floor. There are several interactive exhibits as well where you can touch some pieces of Wichita history. Took us an hour and a half to see and read everything. Overall, it was interesting and worth the trip, but wasn't anything too spectacular.

This museum is a hidden gem. If you're thinking about going, go. You won't regret it. The building is beautiful and there its exhibits are wonderful. The Sedgwick County historical Museum is an underappreciated resource for learning and fun.

This under utilized museum should be on your list of places to visit in Wichita. They have a great collection of local artifacts and some rotate on display. I took my son on a day that was free and they had some interactive things for the kids to participate in such as board games and showing old cartoons. I enjoying being able to see things from the past and learning a bit about local history. The only real downside to going is the parking. If there is events on at century II you will not find parking anywhere near this historic building.

This is a building and a museum not to be missed !! The architecture is glorious and the historical displays are well done. Give yourself a couple hours to get through the entire space and take in all of the beautiful aspects of the structure including the lighting and fireplaces. If you go on a Saturday just hop on the Q to avoid having to park. The female CSR at the desk was friendly and helpful !!

We had a piece of Wichita history to donate so emailed the Museum's curator as listed on their website. We never received a reply. After a couple of weeks we then wrote to the other email address' listed on their website (the director, office manager, educator, etc.) and yet still not a single reply.Apparently this place has left the lights on but nobody is home.
