Wheatland Cafe & Catering

We love going to this place for Sunday dinner! It is delicious home cooking at its best. We have never been disappointed in all the years we have been going. Love the broccoli, potato salads just to name a few, there are many more. The strawberry dream salad (I don't know the official name) but it is a dream. We drive from Hutchinson and IT I S worth the drive.

The Wheatland is a fried chicken and ham buffet served every other Sunday from 11am till 2pm. People come from far and wide for the home-style, fried in skillets, chicken, homemade bread and ice cream. People also stand in line to eat here and share tables with family, people they know and even people they've just met. The food is consistent.

This restaurant has the best fried chicken. But, they serve much more, steaks, ham, many salads and sides. They recently catered my wedding and they served an Italian menu, which was as good as the Italian meals I just recently ate visiting Italy in May. My parents drive an hour to eat here for the Sunday buffet, which includes great fried chicken, ham, creamed corn, green beans, and a "salad bar" which is populated with a broccoli salad (a delicious combination of broccoli and bacon), a frozen strawberry dessert-type thing that tastes like strawberries and cool whip, and a orange jello salad. It feels like this place hasn't changed in 50 years, and I that is part of its charm.
