A few things: we are first time home buyers, we used a broker, we used a VA home loan. This review will encompass a few things for context but the review is largely about our experience with our realtor. We went with a broker to help us navigate using the VA home loan - if you know you know. Our broker suggested our realtor Steven Hartman. In the beginning Steven really knocked if out of the park for us. He called, checked in, sent us homes to consider and took us on several showings with our kids in tow. Steven was very attentive in the beginning and made sure we knew what was going on the entire time throughout the process. We found our own inspector out sideOf the ones Steven suggested. Steven had mentioned he would be there during the inspection and the sellers would not be there. Steven did not coordinate the inspection with the seller's realtor therefore the sellers were home during the inspection. So instead of going through the home and noting repairs, my husband has to entertain the sellers. Fast forward to negotiations on money, appliances and inspection items. We attempted to negotiate keeping the upstairs refrigerator and in turn we asked to keep the basement refrigerator in lieu of the main one. It was in writing but come to find out it was not in the contract. *in the end we had noticed that the fridge was not in the basement. We had several conversations with both our realtor and the broker. Our realtor would NOT do anything about the refrigerator- not even in good faith. He mostly washed his hands of the whole ordeal. We asked for several repairs to be done to the home as there was/is termite damage, water damage and the house is overall just older. We originally asked for a large amount of money to fix the back door, steps, landing. We had several phone calls back and forth during this stage - eventually Steven asked us something like, "are you being difficult to get out of buying this house?" Instead of just being our advocate Steven chose to belittle our intelligence. During closing or what we thought was closing Steven brought his two children with himAnd when he left the room to speak to the sellers realtor he left his children in the room with us unattended- not asking if it was okay. Outside of the conference room we were in we could hear Steven tell the other realtor we were being difficult because we had refused to sigh certain documents (there was a delay in our closing by one day). Steven did nothing for us bb our with us on closing day. It should have been a celebration but Steven didn't even shake our hands hands - let alone acknowledge we were in the same room as him. It's pretty custom to her first time homebuyers a gift and take their photo in front of the home - that didn't happen for us. Once Steven got him money, he ran. I did reach out to someone in the office at UrbanCool Homes and she was helpful at getting us access to our Ring doorbell; which I had asked Steven about but he never responded. We haven't heard from Steven Hartman since closing.
