Toots Drive-In

An out in the middle of nowhere, old timey, drive-in type restaurant. Very nostalgic and unexpectedly cool.In addition to their drive-through, they have a modest amount of indoor seating. I had their fried pork tenderloin sandwich, which was a savory thing of beauty! Also had a side of fried onion rings. They had five different types of homemade pies, and I got a slice of sawdust pie to go (never heard of this type of pie before, but it was dang good!).

I get this "Only in Kansas" newsletter by email and recently Toots Drive In was featured. We were going to pass right by Howard on our travels from Salina to Bella Vista, AR, so we planned a lunch stop. I'm glad we did.Howard is one of those Kansas towns that has seen better days. It's pretty dumpy. Toots is pretty dumpy too. It's just a squatty old building on a gravel lot with faded signs and a pretty neglected look to it. Inside there are tables to seat fifteen or so and a small counter with a cash register. Behind the cash register, the young woman didn't give much of a greeting and acted as if I should just know what I wanted. Well, I kind of did, but I still wanted to look at the menu on the wall.I ordered the pork tender sandwich and the big cheeseburger with onion rings and sweet potato fries to go--we had our dog with us and planned to eat at a picnic table around to the side. I asked if they could cut the sandwiches in half so my wife and I could share, but they didn't. Had to go back for a knife which was just and ancient table knife and had to promise to bring it back. The food was good but the flies outside were super-annoying so we didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped.Anyway, Toots was pretty much what I expected, a greasy little drive-in with classic greasy drive-in food. Pretty darn good.

Anytime I am within 50 miles, count me in!!! (If I'm taking a weekend ride on one my motorcycles...make that 100 miles)That's the value of opening Yelp and looking at the map feature to see where a good restaurant is that is on my route!! (gonna do the route again just to go here!) Found a few friendly locals in here, and I'm sure there is always a loyal few there enjoying this food!!

Good food, friendly staff. Cute place to go to off the beaten path in Kansas. We will be back next time we are out that way!

I've been going here for the past few years on my gravel backroad adventures. Great place with great burgers! And a FULL menu of all kinds of items. I can't say much about anything other than burgers, fries, tots and shakes, because that's all I ever order, but what I order is great. If I had one or two complaints it would be this: Put up a couple metal carports for shade out front with picnic tables AND a mic/speaker to call out the orders. LOL. Just sayin...

We traveled all the way from Oregon to KS just to take in the Hwy 99 Fabulous Finds yard sale weekend. We were looking for something zany and crazy to do and that truly fit the bill.Toots Drive-In was the last stop we made after 2 full days of following the Hwy 99 Fabulous Finds yard sales from NE to Howard, KS. We were treated with great food and top notch, old-fashioned customer service. I had failed to purchase a Fabulous Finds t-shirt through the weekend but when I mentioned that to the owner she graciously gave me one from her stash to commemorate our fabulous trip to KS. We will never pass Howard, KS again without making a stop for dinner at Toots Drive-In.

Went a few miles off the highway to get there late at night. Food was very good! Yummy seasoned curly fries (HUGE) portion, great burgers and grilled cheese was delicious with Texas toast bread. Worth it to visit an old classic.
