The Peaceful Pachyderm

I went here at 12:30 on a Friday, and the sign wasn't on so I thought they were closed despite the hours saying they were open. The door was open though so I went in. Young woman at the counter wasn't very friendly, but I ignored that in hopes the food was good. Besides no one likes being at work so I get it. I wish I had something better to say, but the cornbread was colder than Windfield Lake. The BBQ sauce tasted like vinegar and was as runny as my toddler's nose. Yall...they don't have sweet tea...at a BBQ spot...I don't know what is more egregious, the fact they put cheese on a pork sandwich or the slaw that was dryer than South Texas. The meat was tender though.Maybe they're from Carolina, and that's why their ways are...different. Wasn't for me though. I still encourage others to try. You may have a different experience, and it's worth a shot to support a local business.

Absolutely delicious food. Each item was so tasty - mac n cheese was creamy and yummy, coleslaw could have been the best I've ever had, pork sandwich was superb, cornbread was wonderful! So thrilled to have this bbq restaurant so close! Cannot wait to go back!

Finally tried this place out now that it's been open for a few weeks and picked up a late lunch for us today. I had a 1 meat dinner with brisket which was very tender and moist, their mild sauce had a nice kick to it but didn't leave me searching for water to cool the down my mouth. I ordered the potato salad and baked beans for my sides. On first blush, I thought the potato salad needed some salt but I found it to actually be very good 3 or 4 bites in! The baked beans were kind of running, crockpot beans and could use some work. Dearest wife had ribs and found them to be very good. She got the potato salad and sweet potato mash, she liked the potato salad as well but she was not impressed by the sweet potato mash and thought it could use some perfection. We thought both dinners were supposed to come with corn bread but that did not make it home with us. All in all, pretty good and we will be back.

I had the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese. Visiting from out of state and we were told about this place. It was so good. I've never had a pork sandwich with cheese but now I know how good it is.

Fabulous meats but the burnt ends are my favorite! All the sides are fresh. I really like the macaroni salad the best. The jalapeño cornbread is delish with just the right amount of kick. There is a variety of desserts available. The key lime pie is good but the carrot cake is the bomb!

We tried them for dinner this evening and were very impressed. Pulled pork, hot links, and chicken were excellent. Great spot to check out in Derby!

ordered the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches. with mac & cheese and baked beans as sides. husband had the pulled pork so didn't get a picture but I had the brisket and it was so tender even the "fatty bites" melted in your mouth. would def try again and see what else they have to offer. worth a try.

We were extremely disappointed to say the least. Beef wasn't smoked at all that we could tell. Buns were slathered with butter (?) and slightly warned but no where near toasted s and very greasy. Strangest of all was the (velveta?) cheeze sauce on the beef sandwich. Cole slaw and nac&cheeze were ok. Maybe it was a bad evening but won't be going back. 1/2 star if that were possible.

Good addition for Derby, amazing brisket, good sides (not recommending the baked beans, they were weird). Some room for improvement, could be just our tastes differ too, but the Chicken was something I wish we had saw it before we ordered it. Looked like chopped beef almost because of how dark and almost dry looking it was, we ordered for carry out so we were a little confused it was the right item. It just had a bunch of seasoning/BBQ sauce it was cooked in is what I'm guessing, hubby ate like 2 bites and pitched it. Overall it's a fun take within a couple mins drive and I like the setup they have indoors, a large kitchen and with some smaller dining tables. We didn't try the ribs last time so we will be back!!
