Whenever I'm in a city I have never visited I like to go to the local museum. It's an even better experience when the city has a museum dedicated to African American / Black History. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Kansas, Wichita's history in regards to the African Americans who were born or migrated to the city. The museum is small but mighty! I always leave with appreciation and a little more knowledge about my people.

The museum had plenty of interesting exhibits to look at, especially the Black community of Wichita. However, the inside of the museum felt more like an early 20th-century home than a typical museum. I hope to visit again once the new building opens in the near future.

This place is small, but a lot of great information. There is so much history here and each time we visit, it seems I learn something new every time. An absolute must see in Wichita.

This is an amazing place to learn about black history and experience a historical site all at once. My elementary and middle school children loved it. They never learned anything like this in school. It was so empowering and educational. Brooke and Denise were wonderful. They taught my children so much. It is a place every school aged child should visit on a field trip to learn about not only black history, but the history of Wichita and the state of Kansas.

This is a great museum in a beautiful historic church. It has a lot of artifacts from Africa as well as rotating exhibits. The art work from a wide variety of African American artists was wonderful. It also has some great information about the struggles of African Americans in Kansas. Make sure to go up on the stage and read about the sit in to integrate a restaurant in Wichita. Don't miss the pictures and information on the balcony. Its a little difficult to navigate up there but it is worth it. Lots of interesting information about early African American towns started by freed slaves. The gift shop is small but has some wonderful items like Kente cloth pattern earrings for only $5! If there is no parking on the street, there is a parking garage across the street. We have studied a lot about African American history and this museum definitely added to our knowledge.
