The Island

We've been coming to Harlan for a couple of years & recently moved here. After our last several experiences, we'll be taking all of our business elsewhere. There are a few other restaurants in the area that are wonderful & have amazing service. When you walk in to The Island, though, you can expect to be treated as though you've ruined someone's day just by walking in. I can understand someone having a bad day, but this has happened every. Single. Time. Blatant rudeness indicates to me that they don't want our business. I also own a business & I would never huff & puff at a customer, sigh like I'm being inconvenienced, roll my eyes, or snap at a customer. Never EVER. This is the ONLY kind of service you can expect from The Island though.

This establishment is only open because it is the only place in town. Terrible service, rude staff and dirty atmosphere. I hate spending my money here but the only other option is 8 miles away. Someone please buy the old Tall Tales gas station and save this town.

I stopped into this location a couple days ago and the cashier did not greet me. She stood behind the register playing on her cell phone. When I got my soda and went to get a lid there were no lids for anything but the smallest cup. When I asked if they had a lid all I got was a "Nope." Then back to her phone. I brought the cup up to the counter and after a couple minutes she finally said Dollar forty. I stood there waiting for my change for about 2 more minutes. I tried asking about the Prime Rib night I had heard about and got snapped at, "We don't have a Prime Rib night." I told her someone had recommended the place and I would like to try it sometime. She then replied, "Well, I guess we have a steak night every other week." I asked what night of the week and she said she didn't know. Then went back to her phone. There was a man behind me that kept asking her if he could pay for his gas and wanted cigarettes. He had to ask 3 times before she finally asked him what kind of cigarettes when he had already told her 3 times. I hope this doesn't always happen, but apparently the boss wasn't around so the cashier with the long blond hair thought her phone was more important than her job.

Visited the Island on a Wednesday night and ate the special in which was chicken wings. The staff was friendly and the food was great. We Will definitely eat there again when we come back to the lake.
