Kansas is covered with farms. Why has it been so difficult to get local meat other than the one or two mega brands offered in Dillons and everywhere else? Douglas Avenue Chop Shop addresses this need, providing a good old fashion butcher shop veneer with the curated selection of produce that you would expect as the millennial you probably are, because who else would bother searching for artisanal butcher shops on a website. The meat is all top-notch, though you're going to pay what is perhaps the highest prices in town for the privilege. If they haven't sold out of the cut you want, that is. The deli cases with the small selection of cured meats and cheeses is exemplary, offering many items that you're not going to find anywhere else. No longer will you have to substitute pancetta for gunaciale in your Carbonara recipe. During the week they make sandwiches using their meats and Crust & Crumb bread. They sell them in the shop and down the street at Reverie, but those are even harder to come by.The sausages are iffy. It's nice to see them making their own product, but the Dale's Pale Ale sausage had too much beer, affecting the texture of the meat. The duck sausage burst apart when I tried to cook it. Maybe it was just me. I did have a sage sausage at Fork and Fennel that was enjoyable, so your mileage may vary. The best part about DACC is that it's owned by Schane Gross, who also owns the excellent Anchor next door and Fork and Fennel down the street. As such, both of these restaurants have their own healthy supply of the products on sale at Douglas Avenue Chop Shop, and you can find them all over their respective menus.Judging by its immediate popularity, it's safe to say Wichita has been looking for a purveyor of fine meats for quite some time. In almost every aspect, it was executed successfully. It'll cost you, but Douglas Avenue Chop Shop is the best the city has to offer.

An outstanding review to a great business in Wichita that not only has great high end product done old style but is involved with the community as well. Thanks to the owner and manager for the terrific tour for the North High Cooking Club, the students that attended were completely blown away by the presentation and tour. Thank you VERY much for your time.

I'm looking for a place to buy my meat since The Fresh Market abandoned Wichita. My first experience was favorable, nice friendly and helpful staff. Interesting selection of sausages--always a plus for me.

The Douglas Avenue Chop Shop has become my new "go to" shop for all of my carnivorous needs. Now that it's grilling season I find myself there at least twice a week. They have an amazing selection of in house prepared bacon and sausages that will keep your taste buds from ever getting bored. My personal favorites are the garlic pepper bacon and the spinach feta chicken sausage. Also, there is an abundance of artisan cheeses to complement any meal or occasion. On top of that I have always received absolutely stellar service. Britt, Brian, Josh and the rest of the crew greet you with a smile and go out of their way to make sure you're satisfied. I no longer shop anywhere else for meat, eggs or cheese.

They posted sign on door saying that they are taking orders Togo when they are closed.. we texted the number on the door. When we texted we heard nothing back. I've spent a lot of money here and no one is ever friendly. We finally got a response days later telling us that they were busy due to COVID and school. They shouldn't advertise that they are taking Togo orders when they aren't. Also the message that they sent me said that they don't need our business. There is many places to get good meat and good business. Don't go here waste of your time considering they won't even reply.. or a rude response. "They used the word you don't have to be a dick" when asking if we could get service.

After speaking with the person who accepted phone orders during COVID (the only way you can order), I placed an order for two porterhouse steaks for pick up the following day (Saturday), and paid approximately $60 on my credit card. The following day, I was contacted by the same person who told me, in a very disheveled manner, that it would take an additional 2 days to have the porterhouse available. When I told her that I could not pick them up on Monday or Tuesday and that I would be out of town for some time, she refused to refund my money. I instead asked her to take the steak that I had paid for and give it to one of their employees who had been laid off. I am willing to bet that never happened. $60 paid and no meat. Had I not had a soft spot for the butchers who work there (they have always been incredibly friendly and helpful) I would have pursued a refund more aggressively. I hope that they have rehired their employees and that the service will return to normal. I will never again deal with them via phone.

I used to give Chop Shop a five star rating for the service, price and quality. As of today, however, it irks me that I have to give it even one.I have been a customer for about a year, visiting every 2 weeks for chicken. I was shocked at the MASSIVE increase in price - about 70% COMBINED with the roughly 30% LESS chicken!!! When I asked one of the employees why, I was told they got a new supplier that had LARGER birds. When I asked him then, why I got significantly less meat but paid nearly double, he was unable to answer. When I got home, I called and left a message to talk to Shane, the owner. The same employee called me right back to tell me she wouldn't be calling me back because "she is a busy woman". I reminded him that I was a regular customer who had also referred business to her and she wouldn't be that busy if it weren't for customers, as if that isn't elementary enough. Then I was asked for my email address. I said I wanted to simply clear up what was going on with a phone call, not an email. He said she would not return the call. I told the employee that I suppose I am going to have to find another shop in which to buy chicken, that this was unacceptable customer service and he said I should. I cannot BELIEVE some small town Mom and Pop business is trying to simulate a corporate giant's complete lack of integrity or service to its customers, completed by an ungodly increase in cost. I would expect that kind of attitude from a large cable company, not a local shop, especially in this economy.Whatever the reason ($greed?), I do not appreciate being LIED to about it. I feel sorry for the employee having to her dirty work because she doesn't have the courage herself to simply explain. I will gladly pay more somewhere else that appreciates my business.Shame on you, Chop Shop. And good luck keeping your customers with the new less-product-for-more money policy and horrible attitude on the side.
