Taco Grande

Did I order bean taco's....uhhh no. I didn't but It is all beans. Ugh!Tossing this away.If your looking for tacos dont expect meat. Its beans.Yuck.[Throwing away]

If you could imagine an awesome dive fast food joint in the middle of the prairie that served Mexican-inspired food then you have just imagined Taco Grande.The food isn't exactly healthy, and that's not a negative, but it is amazingly addictive and hits the spot on some of those nights that run a little late. The menu has a bit of everything, but I would like to call your attention to the Funny Taco. It's a regular taco snuggled by a soft taco shell held together by some queso. Now, I'm pretty sure Taco Grande isn't the first place to offer a taco such as this, but they've perfected it. Get it to stay and then get some to go. If you need it delivered, they'll do that too.Dig in, but I recommend that you pace yourself.

The people are nice, the place is clean, they just did meet the mark when it came to the burritos. The tacos were okay. Not much to say about this place.

Taco Grande has the beat refried beans I have ever eaten. They have texture and are creamy without being dry. They are served with cheese and hot sauce. Their sauce bar has plenty of options. Their meat mixture is flavorful and never bland. Great quality for the price!

How does this place have low scores? This place is awesome. I had the Sancho burrito and the Old Funny Taco! Delicious! The employees were friendly but the food was terrific. Get to Hays and get some Mexican Food!!

Stopped in Hays as a half way point and decided to grab a quick taco. I grew up in Kansas and Taco Grande was always a favorite, however I've never experienced such slow service at a "fast" food establishment. We ordered at 12:35 and didn't get the order of 4 soft tacos til 1:12. It'd like to say it was packed but they only have a dozen tables to begin with. There's no reason with such a small menu and 4 employees that it should have taken 37 minutes to make tacos. The food wasn't bad but certainly not worth $17 and that kind of wait.

This is not a Restaurant I'd ever return to.Tacobell has better tasting food and ingredients than Taco Grande.Sadly I chose this place because who can say No to Tacos?Well anyways, the place was empty. Very quiet inside, 3 employees, one taking order, another peeping food and one guy sitting down bagging chips. These fellow were bored I assumed talking about race cars and a buddies car the night before.This was the first time I visited this place after moving to the area. I can say the restaurant was clean, empty and the ac worked. While watching them prepare my orderTo my surprise every thing was bagged like in sandwich style sacks and MICROWAVED. Each order had a premesured amount of {???} because it doesn't taste like chicken. .Now I had ordered 2 tacos and a Chicken Burrito.Chicken burrito ingredients beside the tortilla had a small amount of cheese and a microwaved sack of chicken. (I think)That's it.... Nothing else just two ingredients, I would have been better off microwaving a Tina's frozen burrito chummichangas.This microwaved chicken had a funny texture i believe from microwaving I think originally they cooked whole chickens in the microwave and pick it apart then sack the chicken, I don't even know if I can call it that as it so awful tasting and had a nasty texture much like boiled fish but chicken.I can see why they closed down the other locations as the food is trash.They sould do the community a favor and close this place too especially since the food really had no thought, flavor or even value for that matter.Save your money head to Taco Bell.Thank me later.

The food was really not good. The chips and hard taco shells were very stale. The chicken tacos had no flavor at all. The sancho had a slight sweet taste to begin with (strange for Mexican food) and then gave way to a very slight spicy burn that was almost pleasant. The nacho cheese came straight from a can and was cold. The cinnamon crispy dessert things were very stale. There were three young men working in the place, not a single other customer in the 6 o'clock hour on a Saturday evening which should have been the first clue, and only one of the young men made our food so it easily took him 15-20 minutes to make a taco dinner, a sancho dinner, 3 soft tacos, and 5 other tacos. Never again when we visit Hays for football games!

I used to eat here once a week -it was owned by the same family for decades and during those decades, was a local favorite but it's changed hands a couple of times and now it's owned by another local guy who owns a burger joint downtown that is run in a similar fashion. He also owns a plumbing/heat/a/c business and is a slumlord so it's easy to see why things aren't going so good. This restaurant had another location that is closed down now and he's been talking on Facebook about his legal battle with the previous owner and they're going to open like 35 more of these places across the country. Seems that the portions get smaller every time I'm here but there's tons of lettuce so I guess that balances itself out, right? The food is OK a lot of the time but has never been as good as when those other people owned it...and that's why I"m only here once a month or so now. My food was cold today. I do love they way the tomatoes are sliced razor thin. Check out my pic of myself throwing away my trash afterwards and you'll get the idea.

Awesome TACOS...just like the ones I had in college. Great service. Clean. Smells Great inside if you like fast food, non big chain, Mexican...
