This is one of those gems I'm always looking for -- a small town cafe run by a lady who cooks and bakes the old fashioned way. The day we were there she had Coconut Cream pie, still warm from the oven, and a lemon cake with lemon creme filling. Both were wonderful! There are different hot specials each day, plus a limited list of sandwiches. I was saving room for the pie, so I had the Deluxe Grilled Cheese. It included bacon, lettuce, tomato and one of three cheeses on sour dough toast, plus chips or fries on the side for $8.95. I chose the Swiss cheese. Best grilled cheese I've had in a long time! Mom had the burger, and lemon cake. I got a bite of mom's lemon cake, and it was also wonderful. The restaurant is open 11 - 2 for lunch, and 5-7 for dinner during the week, and lunch only on Saturdays. If you're visiting Alabaster Caverns or just looking for a destination to drive or ride to, this place is worth the trip! It's small with only about four tables and it looked like she only baked one pie and one cake, so if you're going with a group, you might want to call a day ahead to be sure she makes enough dessert.
