Smokey's D's Catering & BBQ

Tried this place last week the brisket was delicious the mac and cheese nice and creamy. My only argument was the price. And that they put them in a plastic cup instead of a serving tray so that you could mix it all up without making a mess

We are in SE Kansas, staying in Chanute, to attend the 146th Old Soldiers & Sailors Reunion in Erie, KS and to attend the free bean feed on Friday night. We ate Thursday evening at Smokey D's BBQ on Main St. in Chanute. Our waitress was helpful, cordial and attentive; and our food was on the table quickly. My husband and I both had the Thursday special: A burger covered with brisket, topped with cheese, then topped with either coleslaw or baked beans. Potato salad for the side. The brisket was delicious and tender, and the hamburger was very flavorful. Add a slathering of BBQ sauce, and you know this is worth a second trip to SE Kansas. I enjoyed the classic potato salad, but I do like how my husband makes it with a little Worcesterchire Sauce to kick it up a notch. We talked with the owner, Mark Davidson, and his wife. We also sampled the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce. We really need some of that when you get it in a bottle! We must come back to try other menu items. This restaurant is a jewel --- tasty food at a great price.

Granted, this is Southeast Kansas so my five stars do not imply white table clothes and silverware kind of place. In comparison to other SEK small town restaurants that are Main St small businesses, I'm giving 5 stars. That is to say that the ribs were reasonably priced, cooked to the perfect tenderness for my liking and the portion size of the sides were appropriate. My wife and I thought the ribs were tasty and would come back again. Great customer-service interactions were experienced from the young, freckled-face hostess/server/cashier to the (I'm assuming) owner/BBQ-er throughout the meal.

Nice little place. Had the pulled pork and FF. Pork was good, easy to chew and had good taste. BBQ sauce was very sweet but once it was put on the sandwich was a very good blend. FF seemed to be hand cut and good. A little greasy for me. Bun was soaked in grease and not enjoyable. Overall good place to eat. Prices were very good.
