We were told it was okay to sit in the back room, so we did. It was about halfway through dinner rush. The lady who told us we could sit in the back followed us back but didn't offer us menus or anything. We sat for probably at least 10 minutes as staff came and went stocking the freezers and such. Finally located menus. Finally a server brought another table their food and noticed us sitting there.I ordered a mushroom swiss burger with fries, which was on special for $5. Mom ordered a ham salad and paid $2 upcharge to add egg.The food came out a lot faster than it took to order it. The burger and curly fries were very good, especially considering the price. The salad had a lot of toppings, and a bit of cut ham. The $2 egg was a sliced boiled egg that they'd forgotten until she reminded the server. The big salad was served on a small plate, which made it difficult to mix up and corral as Mom ate it. I'm not much of a fan of shredded lettuce, but at least their lettuce did seem very fresh.I can see why they stay busy with those special lunch prices. The food was quite good for the price. It's not anything fancy, but seemed clean and more popular than the other restaurants in town.

Wow!! Definitely isn't the place you'd think it was, even when they are short handed the food was spot on and hot. The place has been in business for over 15 years and based on their food quality a person eating here wants to keep it a secret! When in town stop here for breakfast you won't be disappointed!! Took off 1 star because I had to get my own coffee when the place was slammed with customers due to half of the regular servers were at a volley ball game... lol this stuff only happens in a small town....stop in, enjoy and as always have a happy meal...

Talk about good food! We stopped in for breakfast and this little cafe did not disappoint! The prices are good, but the homemade bread is even better!

Food was good. Lots of home made bread options. I had to try the orange cranberry almond (I enjoyed the heck out of it). The whole wheat was a winner also. Bacon was thick and hearty. Not a mask on anyone but our group that we saw.

The food was very good, family diner style. There was a lot of choice. We had intended to go to the Trails End restaurant which is supposed to be unusual but had been unable to contact them. So the chamber of commerce referred us to Saddlerock. I had chicken fried steak, very tender, homemade and lots of gravy. The service was slow but very helpful. It was a cute place inside.

Drove from Herington for breakfast. My husband and my sister enjoyed their food, I on the other hand did not. I ordered the corn beef hash meal. I asked for my eggs to be soft scrambled and cinnamon raisin toast. The crust on the corned beef hash was burnt, over cooked. The eggs were not soft scramble, they were dry and over cooked. The toast, was not toast, it was bread that looked like they slapped it on the griddle to put a little color on it (one side only), my two pieces of "cinnamon raisin toast" had one raisin and the swirl of cinnamon was not a swirl but a small line. No cinnamon taste. Why didn't I say something, you ask...The service was lacking, they said there was only two people working, blamed it on volleyball (I assume some of the staff are in high school, and play on the team). My husband asked where the coffee was, the waitress told him it was up front, and he got the coffee pot, and filled up his and my sister's cup, even another customer's cup. We had to take ketchup and Cholula off another table. No one came and asked how our meal was, or if we needed anything, until they came and picked up the empty plates (not my plate), but walked away before any one of us could speak. Either she didn't notice that my plate was still full (she only took my husband's and my sister's), or she didn't care if I liked my meal. Was the restaurant clean? Half the tables up front were occupied, and the other half had dirty plates on them. We asked if we wait to be seated or if we sit ourself. We sit ourself, and we found a clean booth in the back. We ordered two coffees and one water, the waitress immediately came back and asked if we ordered three coffees. Should have known right then that the service would be less than par. Used the women' restroom (cow girl's), it is very dated and small (my RV has a larger bathroom). You can hear everything from the kitchen. Will we return? I'm sure my husband will drag me in, to give it a second chance. I'll make sure to look at the high school sports schedule. I'm giving a three star, because my husband and my sister liked their meals.

We took the weekend to explore the Tallgrass Prairie, spending the night in Cottonwood Falls. We wanted to visit Council Grove and found Saddlerock Cafe for breakfast. We would highly recommend it: fast, friendly service, tasty food and homemade cinnamon rolls so large my kids couldn't finish them (but so good they asked for to go boxes). We also loved the pictures of the prairie and cattle brands on the walls.
