I saw that they had lots of really good reviews so I tried them. Unfortunately, there were many problems

Choosing a general contractor for my bathroom remodel was a scary thing, I've heard general contractor horror stories, but had never really heard any happy ending ones, it was a very vulnerable feeling. I was immediately put at ease by my first meeting with James Sampson of S&A. He was professional yet laid back, appeared to have all the time in the world for me, took great notes, & asked all the appropriate questions. I was very fortunate to have been assigned Javier Hernandez to do the labor. Javier was professional, respectful, and friendly. It was apparent that my dream was important to him. If it wasn't exactly what I wanted, he happily reworked it. His work is beautiful, particularly his tile work! I got EXACTLY what I wanted. Communication of specifics and details is critical when working out a remodel. There was definitely a learning curve on my part! But James and Javier were with me the whole way. There were a couple of disappointing scheduling and communication issues. BUT in the end would I use S&A again? Absolutely. It was a positive experience with a positive outcome, I highly recommend them.

These guys are very professional and their workmanship was excellent. They came when they were supposed too and came back out to make sure we were satisfied. I can't speak highly enough. Great contractors.

Replaced roof in February, roof already leaks and they refuse to fix it. If I could give less than one star I would.

I just used S & A Construction for the second time. The first time I used them they repaired and added latches to our wooden gates going to the backyard. Recently, they built steps off our deck. The work was completed quickly and was exactly what I requested. They will take on small jobs. Other companies I contacted weren't interested if it wasn't a big job. Their prices are reasonable, and I will definitely use them again.Belinda F.

S&A Great people to work with. I had a lot of problems time after time finding companies who would stand behind there word and work. Many promise you the world when you sign on the dotted line but during the actual work performance and being on time to show up was a nightmare. When the job was finished all you got was a ham and egg job and I ended up fixing most of the issues.S&A were great they arrived on time even back from a lunch break performed the scheduled work to the letter per the contract. Cleaned up after the job was finished and made sure I was satisfied with the outcome.

Worked with Deryk from S & A. They were recommended by our insurance company to replace the hail damaged roof. They worked directly with our insurance company for supplemental payment for necessary upgrades to bring the roof into code as well, so I didn't have to worry about any of it. They worked quickly - removed and replaced shingles on our duplex and garage in a single day. Definitely recommended for roofing work.

I would give them a zero if I could. I set an appointment for an estimate. Never showed up, never called. I took off the afternoon. I have since talked to other people about this company - buyer beware.

Really good work. I needed some trim and siding replaced on my house, Deryk came and gave me an estimate and a work date. He kept updated during the process and was very nice and easy to work with. They were on time, did the work in one day, and they did a great job. I will definitely have the do additional work on our house.

Warning Do Not Hire This Company - Workers don't have experience or knowledge to do the work and didn't have all the tools needed to do the work and took mine out of my garage and used them. Total disrespect for my property inside and outside of my home. Workers stole from me and the owner, Mr. Nelson refuses to pay for the personal items damaged or stolen. I meet with them 5 times before hiring them and they agreed to use the materials and perform the work to my specifications but tried to cut corners with each work project they did. They didn't stay on the job and started other projects before completing what they had started. The work was to be done in 3 weeks but took 3 months because they had to redo work and it still isn't done right and it has caused further damage to my home. Same workers did the rework.Roof - Remove, replace broken boards, and put on new roof. Didn't fix as agreed and roof leaked causing more damage. I had to have roof tar put on it to stop the leak. Manufacturer 25 year roof shingles warranty is void because house isn't ventilated properly and only used 1 layer of 15 pound roof felt and roof code requires 2 layers of felt. Driveway and Porch - Remove driveway from garage door and replace clear to the street. Remove drive, extend to corner of house. Porch put sidewalk in front of it, and no toe kicks. Driveway was un-level, garage door had a 2 inch gap under it when shut. Porch had toe kicks. Part of driveway was removed and replaced as well as the porch. No rebar was used, used old concrete for filler and the cement is black marbled looking, severely cracked, flaking, and chunks of concrete broken. Grass growing in cracks and wasn't done clear to the street as requested and agreed upon. They mixed up concrete in a bucket and thought they would spread it over the low spots and bad areas and I said, No."Wooden Eaves - Remove and replace with good quality wood. Cut rectangular holes in wood for ventilation. Different types of wood was used that are not the same thickness and they didn't ventilate all of the wood. In fact, they were covering up the old wooden eaves with vinyl soffit and we had an argument about this not allowing intake air to ventilate the house. They didn't want to remove the old rotten wooden eaves and stated it didn't need removed.Vinyl Soffit - Soffit is bowed and most of it doesn't have ventilation holes in it. Nails aren't hammered in all of the way either.Vinyl Siding - Not installed properly. Cut too short, glued, wavy looking, loose, falling off house, and discolored where they used paint thinner to clean the caulking off that they got on it. Manufacturers warranty is voided. Covered up my gable vents on the house with vinyl siding and claimed the vents aren't madeanymore and not needed. Home inspectors say the gable vents need the vinyl siding removed so the house can ventilate. Metal Overlap Around Doors and Windows - Shoddy work. Folded metal over and now windows don't shut properly. Windows don't meet at the sash and are hard to lock, very drafty and cold, utility bills have increased. Woodwork inside the house around the windows is pulled away from the sheet rock and can't hammer it back due to long nails used on metal overlap outside went clear through the sheet rock into the wood. New Window Sills - Removed and replaced two window sills in bedrooms. Sit to far inside the house. Wood below window sills was cut on the back and pieces broken off. Put 37 nails in one board and 17 in the other one. Knocked holes in the walls in both bedrooms doing this and had to patch the walls. Damaged my personal property while doing this.Basement Windows - Remove and install 6 new windows. Cement is not smooth around windows. Has big chunks of concrete in front of windows along the sides. Ledge and corners have big chunks of concrete missing and big cracks in the basement walls. Only 3 of the windows will open and 1 the glass is broken clear across it.I could continue but you get it. Apparently Mr. Nelson wants to stay in the denial mode and claim that I'm making false claims and trying to ruin his reputation. His last visit to my home was on 4-19-12 and he told me that he would get back with me on 5-7-12 to arrange making repairs. I sent him a certified letter requesting a response by 6-29-12 but I haven't heard from him and I warned him I would take drastic measures if he didn't. The saying, "Oh what a tangled web we weave when we try to deceive," is accurate in this situation. I have proof to back up my complaints and Central Building Inspection has been at my home 3 times and have documentation with pictures of all of my complaints against this company. I will be picketing his business and S & A Construction will be getting some free advertising courtesy of me that Mr. Nelson isn't going to like. I have been very patient and have given him more chances than anyone should give someone to make things right. Unbelievable!
