This is a very clean little park in the middle of agricultural country, somewhere outside of Salina Kansas, but definitely not close enough to Dodge city for the drive we still had ahead of us when we stopped here. For a nominal fee, visitors can stretch their here, and regard some unique geological features that date back to the Cretaceous period when this whole area was a vast inland sea. The large sandstone spheres that remain here are unique and interesting, covering about a 4-5 acre area.We had a little lunch here and pressed on to our destination. As an old earth science teacher, I nerd out on stuff like this; my kids enjoyed running around the room-sized boulders, my youngest insisting they were fake. Oh well, at least we made the stop and didn't get 1800 miles away wondering what we missed-- incidentally, this is the secret to an awesome road trip.Should we stop? The answer should always be "Yes."

A small park in the middle of fields about 20 miles from the interstate or Salina. I'm not sure I would recommend anyone taking the trip off the interstate, but if you are in Salina for any reason it's worth an hour of your time. Dozens of spherical rocks that are up to 12' tall are scattered about for viewing, climbing or pondering. The price is right at $3 and has a small gift shop. Another weird geological formation and roadside attraction.

I can't tell you how many times I've driven by a sign advertising for Rock City and thought it was just a hokey roadside attraction. After stopping by for the first time about a week ago I can say it is well worth the stop! The rocks are quite large and are very impressive when you consider that they are a natural formation. The gift shop is perfectly quaint, and I'll definitely recommend it as a stop along the road to Colorado to friends and family.

A good place to stop and stretch your legs during a long road trip. Kids can play and climb and run off some energy. Small gift shop for souvenirs and for paying the small donation/fee. Not much else as far as amenities but a fun stop to breakup time in the car.

We were in town visiting family for the holidays. There's not much to do in the immediate area (other than drive through town and maybe visit the IPA), so when we heard about Rock City, we were all over it. And Rock City is pretty cool. Yes, it's a bunch of rocks in a field. Yes, about all you can do is climb on the rocks and take photos. This seemed like a riot for all the young kids who where there, and it was a pretty good time for us, too. We returned to the family home and regaled the locals with the story of our trip to Rock City. None of them had ever visited, and thought that we were nuts for wanting to see the rocks. They don't know what they're missing.

The price is right at $3, I agree with others. Rock City is pretty unique, and I hate to sound like a jerk because I do take an interest in rocks...but I feel like after visiting National Parks like Zion or Arches, or even the closer Johnson Shut-Ins east in Missouri...this is a huge let down. It's really not very big or awe-inspiring. However, in the middle of plains country it's notable. It's not something I'd really recommend going out of one's way for - but it is somewhat neat, sure.

Rock City is pretty freaking awesome if you LOVE ROCKS (like I do). You can climb all over these amazing ginormous rocks, have a picnic, wander around and then climb some rocks some more because CLIMBIN' ROCKS = BOSS. It's hard to get to (we got TRAGICALLY LOST), but so beautiful and cool. Take bug spray or prepare to be eaten alive.
