I think everything on the menu is deep fried except the burgers. Service was great but there was only my SO and myself at the bar. Food was very greasy. This place appears to be the local hangout for the older farmers in the area to visit and have coffee or iced tea. There were 4 or 5 other people there but nobody was eating anything. Should have been a clue.

Tip - Cash only! However, there is an ATM inside. For the most part I am willing to try anything so once I heard about mountain oysters, of course they were added to my list. My husband and I made a stop at the Prairie Nut Hut one afternoon while in town visiting family. I ordered a basket that came with mountain oysters, frog legs and fries. The food was plenty. Personally, the mountain oysters had too much breading for my liking. Prairie Nut Hut is a small hole-in-the-wall place. You will find peanuts on tables, shells on the floor and a few locals having a drink after work. Service was top notch and the prices were decent. If you are in the area, stop by and support local.

So this is my second review this place. Horrible customer service absolutely horrible. When they mess up an order they act like it's your fault. You call back they say they'll replace it and then they call you back and say it'll be an hour and a half or no they can't. Rhonda is absolutely a horrible person. I paid $34.09 for food I didn't even eat. Will never be returning to this establishment and I do not recommend it. It is food that you can make at your house for a lot less then you're going to pay that place.

When we showed up, it was questionable due to only one car being in the lot. Well, it's a very small town so I guess one car is not unusual. While we were there, at least three other couples/families arrived for dinner. The place was good. Good service and great burgers. Wife didn't like the fried pickles but I thought they tasted like pickles that had been fried so I'm not sure what she was expecting. The onion rings were great. I like how they took pictures of customers over the years that were visiting from other states. Anyway, it's a good place to eat if for some reason, you are in the area. Bring cash as they don't take cards and the closest ATM machine is 10 miles down the road. Ask me how I know.

You NEED to divert off HWY 75 for this gem! I didn't indulge in the "nuts"' ; ) but had one on the very best cheese burgers ever, ever..did I say EVER? The owner/server was super fun and gave excellent service. Play the Jute Box for added ambiance. It's really a good thing I don't live closer, because the Nut Hut could become habit forming =) real fast.I can't believe this little gem only has two reviews! Let, me state this again.. You MUST make the short detour off the highway and check this place out..

I was here for lunch in 1977 when it was still the A & B Tavern. I was with a group of college students on a class fieldtrip and the professor in charge wanted to introduce his students to "Rock Mountain Oysters" (most were from U. of Iowa and didn't have a clue what was in store for them). I was the second person into the Tavern and as soon as I sat down at a small table, a couple members of the local lunch crowd starting to give me a hard time - standard stuff like "Well, you're not from around here are you?" and "Maybe you should find another place to eat." This went on for several minutes until the proprietor intervened and told them to knock it off or leave. I did not order the "Oysters" but my grilled steakburger and fries was very good - can't say the same for local hospitality, however.

We stumbled across Prairie Nut Hut in a back roads trip in KS. What a gem! It seems the main attraction are "Prairie Nuts" or "Rocky Mountain Oysters" - whatever name you know them by. I skipped this option (but fully support anyone who wants to eat them). What I did have was a REAL burger - not frozen. Not Sysco. A REAL burger, fried to perfection. REAL french fries, that started out as an actual potato. And fried mushrooms, that I think were probably fresh mushrooms to begin with. YUM!The decor is a mix of retro beer signs (that were probably there when not retro), tables with peanuts on them, and their shells on the floor, and locals having lunch. Our waitress was great. And there are pictures of people who came to eat there from all over the country (though I am not sure how they found it....being as far off the beaten path as it is....)Find this spot, if you are anywhere in the area and hungry!

Worth the two hours we drove to get here. They've added sides since we were here last and the fried green tomatoes are to die for. As usual, the pork tender was more than two of us could finish - with onion rings and the fried green tomatoes, of course. Service was excellent as well Highly recommend!
