First, the impression of the place was that of a cafeteria; Folding tables as seating. FLIES WERE EVERYWHERE; landing on tables, windows, condiments, buzzing around our heads, etc-GROSS. Ordered the three meat dinner (Ribs, brisket, and pork) with sides of onion rings (that others said were good) and sweet potato fries. The plate arrived and looked like one big fried mess. The ribs were big and actually not too bad (5/10). The pork was dry but super greasy and nasty. The brisket was soaked in grease and had the consistency of pulled pork, also nasty. Onions rings were soaked in grease, were mostly batter, and were overcooked. Sweet potato fries were also over cooked and clearly came from a frozen bag. Overall this place is terrible and should be ashamed that they are serving food like this in Kansas. I'm from CT and hoped to get some good BBQ out here; boy was I wrong.

Plank's BBQ is a homey, locally owned restaurant, the type of place where you're liable to see multiple tables of customers waving hello to each other across the dining room. The food is very reasonably priced with your typical BBQ fare as well as a few other choices like burgers and chicken fried steak sandwiches. As of November 2013 they offered an all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet on Tuesday nights for $8.99. (Awesome, right?) Their ribs are first class, very meaty and fall-off-the-bone tender that rival some of the Rib giants in KC. I didn't have any of their other meats, so I can't speak about them - yet.Beans are of the baked variety, a little runny, a little sweet with some onions, and they include some brisket in the beans. Two flavors of sauce, one thin and slightly spicy (I loved it, but it's probably a little on the hot side for your average customer) and another somewhat thicker sauce with a sort of smokey / molasses type vibe that had very good flavor. The dining room and restrooms are very simple but also very clean. While the prices are quite reasonable, they do charge $1 if you ask for an extra plate to share. If I rated the restaurant on the ribs alone, I would give 4 or possibly 5 stars. However, I want to reserve judgment until I've tried more of their menu items and meat choices. I'm giving 3 stars for now, but I reserve the right to possibly improve this rating at a future date.

Certainly a clear difference on quality of service between the locals and out of town folk. They won't even check to see if your meal was right (which it wasn't) Not including this in the evaluation, this place is average at best. The ribs are the best meat but the best item is the sweet tea. The brisket is not good, and the pulled pork is ok

Decided to check this place out tonight. Mistake. The waitress was nice and friendly, no complaints there. But the brisket seemed to have been smoked days before and sat in a hot plate of beef stock. I should have just left after the first bite. I'll update this if I end up in the hospital for food poisoning. Without a doubt the worst food I have had this year. It's food like this that reminds me why I travel with my own grill now.

Passing through Garden City KS and decided to try out Kansas style barbecue. Found this little gem on YELP. A no frills restaurant with friendly service and some great barbecue at very reasonable prices. Had the Friday special Pulled Pork sandwich with one side for $7. If I am ever through here again, I will definitely return. They also have a meat market and make their own sausage but since traveling we didn't make a purchase.

First of all I love the decor. This is a mom & pop place, and no it's not fancy. It's like going to Grandmas house for dinner. We had the buffet, which had two kinds of fajitas mix and tortilla, pulled pork, ribs, beans, tater salad and a few other fixings.I would come back in a heartbeat! The waitress was a sweet girl and I think you should at least give it a try. The bbq sauce was sweet and tangy.

Came here for a work luncheon. The food was good. I had the brisket and pulled pork. I was surprised that the brisket was chopped and not sliced. It had a decent flavor but was a bit dry. I personally prefer a nice sliced brisket. Pulled pork was on point tho. Get the hot bbq sauce and you wont go wrong.

I used to live in Garden City 10+ years ago and ate here frequently. It was the best BBQ I could get and the people and atmosphere are the best! I bright my family back to Garden passing through and we stopped at planks for lunch. It is still the absolute best!! The pulled pork sandwich is loaded with a heap of meat on a light bun. I love their Bbq sauce too!! It's absolutely the best lunch spot around!
