Nauling's Texas BBQ And Soul Food

Was in town on business and saw it was close to our meeting area. Wanted to love everything but couldn't. I arrived at 1:00 PM, which I learned is too late to get ribs or brisket, since the locals buy all of it for lunch. Also out chicken breasts. I didn't want pulled pork, so I had a dry chicken thigh and a juicy beef link, which was clearly the highlight of the meal. The sides could have used seasoning and the gumbo was too watery. The person taking orders should do a better job guiding people through the confusing ordering process. Repeating the statement, "If it has a green tag next to it, that means we are out of it" seemed to become a little rude. I watched an older guy spend 10 minutes trying to figure out what he could order. Two other customers walked out. All I could do was laugh at the comedy skit between the customer and the owner. Also, if the order allows two sides, why can't both of them be yams? There seemed to be a policy against getting two of the same side even when the order comes with two sides. Although not a big deal, but I smelled like a BBQ pit when I left. Felt unsatisfied, I so I went to a small chain BBQ place to get ribs and brisket. The lesson is to get there early for ribs and brisket.

While on a business trip and we felt like having BBQ. Luckily found a place to park, which in Topeka wasn't easy. Ordered the brisket sandwich & baked beans with a side order of corn bread. It was good but just didn't blow me away, but was satisfying. The owners were very pleasant and willing to help out with the menu.The beans were rather lackluster and the corn bread was served cold. I felt as if the corn bread should have been warmed and served with butter. The sandwich was good and the bun held up nicely. If you're in the mood for BBQ this is an option to check out.

Just not too good. Burnt dried up meat is what I got a while ago so I decided to give them the Olive Garden 20 year break before I visit again

I don't know about the food!I am confused about the service! The menu is so completely confusing that I felt guilty holding others up from ordering. I found why the couple in front of me had to keep up such a sustained dialogue as they ordered.My clothes smelled like smoke after I left and wondered how the downtown patrons had time to order and eat and how they tolerated to smell of smoke as they finished their day and I did not get anything ordered and just left.I gave it a 'one' because the only thing positive was the young lady trying to explain how to order from 4 boards, four paper postings etc. I have worked 50 years traveling and have eaten in 46 states and 4 countries and never viewed such a confusing ordealI had initially parked my vehicle just north of the store. Their smoker was spouting smoke so heavily that even though I moved my vehicle around the corner south of the store, my vehicle still smelled like smoke. Lucky we are having a little cooler weather so I could leave the car windows down and take the interstate back to the west side and let it air out.Long story short, I am not commenting on the food as I never got that far.

Maybe it was an off day. Absolutely some of the worst excuse for BBQ I have ever had in my life! The brisket was drier than jerky. The baked beans were poured out of a can with absolutely no seasoning. I always give a restaurant a second chance. For the price and quality of the food and service, I am 1 and done here!

Excellent food prepared and served eith a smile by a great couple who know what they are doing with Texas BBQ.

Absolutely wonderful!! Rod and Kim treated us like royalty. Wonderful flavor, generous portions, great service snd a very relaxing atmosphere. I had the catfish- perfectly flaky, light cornmeal breading. The fries are fun tornadoes with great flavor. The pulled pork was juicy and lean. Excellent experience!!!! Topeka has a new gem!!!

This place was excellent. The ribs were smoked to perfection. The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is clean and neat. The Nauling's are extremely cordial and the go out of their way to make sure you are happy.

Poor service, poor food. Waited over 10 minutes to be recognized and then got order wrong. What was suppose to be special about this food ??!!
