Millennium Cafe is located inside the Topeka and Shawnee County library. It has your basic cafe options with sandwiches and salads. They also have daily hot meal special. When I was in, the special was meatloaf with mashed potatoes. I ordered the Polynesian Salad and it was made fresh and ready to eat in under 10 min. It was well propositioned so that I had even amounts of lettuce, toppings, and chicken. I really enjoyed their house dressing-- sweet basil. It was great to have an affordable and tasty salad. It is also a good spot to bring your laptop and get some work done. Because it's a library, people aren't loud like so many coffee shops.

We ate a mid-afternoon meal there today and we were very satisfied. I had the vegetarian wrap and my husband had the Tuscan chicken salad. We each had a cup of the "soup of the day" (vegetable - but it was kind of a creamy squash, which was very flavorful) and we each also had a small pumpkin latte & a cookie (mine was peanut butter, and my husband's was oatmeal with chocolate chips & M&M's). The cookies were HUGE and only cost $1.50/each. The total (with tax) was $28.33 and we thought that was very reasonable. Also, the food was really good and so were the lattes. The two women working there were very pleasant. As an aside, we visited the gift shop/used bookstore and it had a pretty good selection; especially the cards, but also some other nice things. I bought a beautiful (decorative) large wooden-handled umbrella for only $19.99 (and tax-free).

I have mixed feelings about this Cafe. I'm really not sure who's paying for it - the taxpayers or some private funding, but I don't think our public library should be trying to compete with Barnes & Noble or any other big box store for "customers". On the other hand, if it is paying for itself, or turning a profit for the library and allowing them to purchase more goods and services for the library, it's probably a good idea. However, I have my doubts in today's economy. Or, if that's where the profits would go anyway. That being said, the food is just okay. It's nothing spectacular, as hard as they try. The service is really, really friendly and it's always very clean there. The food tastes like cafeteria food - kinda bland. It's plated beautifully and looks very appealing, but it's lacking something and I'm not sure what it is. Maybe salt? I really don't know.Further, the prices make it just a bit too expensive for my blood. I had a turkey sandwich and a piece of pie at my last visit. Total? $9.50. The sandwich was nothing more than what I could construct in my own kitchen and the pie didn't have real whipped cream on it - or even cool whip. Not sure what it was besides a flavorless white pouf. And it wasn't as good as I expected. The crust was baked, the sauce on the strawberries tasted like they'd sugared a bunch of strawberries and dumped them into the crust and topped it with the white stuff. It was definitely not baked. It just wasn't worth it - if it'd been a fantastic pie or a really good turkey sandwich, maybe... but it's just a little too expensive. Better food or lower prices would raise my star rating.

The Millennium Cafe is located on the inside the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library (TSCPL). This is a casual cafeteria style restaurant. The food is from one of the best caterers in Topeka. Food includes big cinnamon rolls, scones, muffins, sandwich wraps, daily specials for breakfast and lunch/dinner, varieties of quiche, home-made soups and chili, fresh salads, cookies and delicious desserts, and signature coffee drinks. Coffee is PT's. you can pick up a nice coffee and cinnamon roll or scone for under $8. A meal of 1/2 soup and 1/2 salad is under $10.The Wednesday hamburger special is a must try. Big servings of chocolate cream pie, coconut cream, or a large peanut butter cookie. Simply delicious. If you arrive after 11:30 am and before abut 12:15 pm anticipate that you will be waiting in line. This cafe is the meeting place for many small groups and downtown workers. This is really the busiest time, so if you arrive before or after this very busy time, you will have a nice meal in a friendly atmosphere at a very reasonable price. The restaurant is not owned by the library. The space is leased by PeachTree Catering. You can visit your library, pickup a good book or video, shop at the Boutique and grab a delicious dessert all in one location. That's a pretty nice afternoon.

I like the Millenium Cafe! Remember when you went to the public library and the only thing you could drink was water fountain water...no gum...no food...no nothin'! Whack! Well, that's better now. I came today for a meeting in one of the auditorium rooms and brought nothing to drink, as always. Parched by 102 Fahrenheit I ventured to the Millenium Cafe and found a pretty damn good iced spiced chai tea. What a great cafe (that's inside a library)! I love that. Also, the meeting room is pretty nice. I'm thinking that if I need to hold a public meeting or event it just may be here. Glad to have this place. Next time I might even have a salad or some biscuits and gravy! Try it...

Located inside of the Topeka Shawnee County Library, this is a good place to grab a quick lunch or snack if you are working hard and the time gets away from you. I think the food here is a bit overpriced for what it is, but I'm chalking that up to the convenience factor of not actually having to leave the library to get some food. The food is pretty much what I would consider cafeteria food, and is just ok, but not really good or great. In my experience, the pastry options here have been better than the meal offerings.

The 2% milk was alright. The price wasn't listed on the menu. It cost $1.39 and was about right for what I got.

Have had lunch here multiple times, just hadn't taken time to review before.Never disappointed in selection. Cafeteria style serving but will adapt order from the posted menu. Can get half sandwich combo or full plate salad. Notice there are dessert options, but I've not indulged. Friendly staff. Pricing compares to other cafes in the area (Holliday Cafe, Classic Bean, etc.)Don't wait until you go to the library to eat here. Make it your destination.

PRO TIP: If you were someone who enjoyed PT's mocha icers the way they used to make them at their Brookwood and (former) Fleming Place locations, then you have to get a mocha icer here! It tastes EXACTLY the same! As for everything else on the menu, I've only had the cookies (which are decent). The menu has pretty typical fare for a "cafeteria" style place and features daily specials. This is definitely a spot that seems to cater more toward the geriatric set as that's who I often see here.
