I have been taking jewelry to Mathes Jewelry for cleaning, repair, and refurbishing, for almost a decade. It's hard to find someone you trust with your jewelry, someone who will do a quality job and not do things halfway. I want a repair that is invisible and will hold up to daily wear and tear. Doug takes pride in what he does, and it shows in every aspect of his work.I've had him replace missing stones in various jewelry pieces; often I get a good price on a set of earrings, a ring, or a pendant because a stone is missing. Doug always matches the color perfectly, and is so reasonable in his pricing. Because of his talent I'm able to rescue pieces of jewelry that would otherwise sit unused. Sometimes I've even had him change the settings entirely, and I've left the stone selection up to him. I've never been disappointed at his choices. He has an artistic eye!My favorite piece is a hummingbird pendant that he made; unlike most pendants this piece is styled on the front and back. The diamond solitaire he chose is just the right size for this piece, and it's such a nice diamond you can see the sparkle from quite a distance. The pendant is a quality work of art, you can tell just by looking at it that it didn't come from any box store. If you are one of those people who are forever paranoid about taking their jewelry to a shop because "they might steal my diamonds", Mathes Jewelry is the place for you!

If you want a cheap repair that you can see, and that isn't going to hold up: do not come here. If you want quality, invisible repairs done meticulously and with an artisan's talent: come here.If you have ever had the paranoia that someone will 'steal your diamonds', this isn't that kind of place. (And really people, that rarely happens anywhere. No matter what your uncle's cousin's sister's friend's dog says) Mathes Jewelry is the only place I trust to take my repairs, because I know that the stone isn't going to drop out a month later from lazy workmanship.....that sizing is going to be seamless, flawless, and invisible. The replacement stone (even colored) is going to be a perfect fit in my piece, and that even I won't be able to tell which one was replaced. One major thing you need to know: if you are accustomed to having a ring sized up by someone pounding your ring out? Doug adds gold to size your ring so that the structural integrity of it is not affected. That pounded-out ring is going to break eventually in a weak spot, and then what you think you saved you now have to spend to fix it. Do it right the first time and have a pro like Doug size it; not only will it be done right, but it will come back to you in polished perfection with NO detectable seam in sight. If he ever retires, I will cry and have ugly, broken jewelry.
