Las Hefas

Passing through Hays and had time to spend with an old friend, so I asked for suggestions to try something new - at least, someplace we haven't tried yet. Let me tell you...Las Hefas is, without a doubt, OUTSTANDING! From the friendly service to the meal, cocktails, tequila flight and appetizers...I cannot recommend this place enough. Keighlee was an absolute rockstar with service, and VERY proud to represent her workplace with smart upselling techniques and her bubbly demeanor. The space itself is kind of understated, which is fine by me when you're doing food this good. My wife and I both ordered the Arepas - I had the pork, she had the beef...and they were absolutely delicious. The fried plantains and slices of avocado were light and refreshing sides. The guacamole dip is perfect - not too salty, really fresh tasting and not overloaded with anything to excess. Keighlee mentioned that they've been open about a year, and while it wasn't too busy for a Wednesday night, I hope this isn't too hidden from the main parts of town. Las Hefas is worth you finding and trying. We will definitely be back next time we come through Hays!

It's a very tasty, modern looking Latin restaurant. It has influences from Cuba, South America, and Central America in addition to Mexico. We stopped by on a road trip and it was well worth the five minute diversion off the freeway. The service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Everything is house made and tastes fresh. Even the tortillas are made in house. I highly recommend the ropa vieja if you want to try a Cuban beef dish. It's really tasty!

It's always a wonderful experience when dining here!! Excellent staff that make you feel at home, fresh and authentic food, and superb service. A variety of beverages are available including alcoholic and (my weakness) , Mexican Coke!! I always have leftovers, unless I share!!

Excellent surprise in the middle of Hayes. We were looking for Mexican but wanted better than the taco bell-style on a plate you so often find. The menu has the usual Mexican dishes with a smattering of Central American dishes added in. We had a salsa sampler, all fresh; my wife had ropas, my son had barbacoa tacos, and I had higado encebollado (liver with onions). All came with tortillas made fresh that day. Each was tasty and very enjoyable. The prices here are very reasonable for the quality of the food. The service is top notch. Highly recommended as a break on your drive past on 70.

Excellent food and top notch service. I enjoyed my amazing lunch and chatting with the server. They have specials frequently, so watch for the barilla tacos! The Tres Leches Cake is spectacular, so save room for dessert. I had the vegetarian dish, Pupusas. They come with a pickled cabbage side, a bowl of red sauce, and a big bowl of black beans with cheese on top. I very much enjoyed them, but was too excited to dig in, so missed the picture.

This was our first time here (opened 2 weeks ago). We all enjoyed our different dishes but I had the arepas without cheese. It came with avocado and fried plantains. I had chips and one arepas and I was full (had an extra meal for later). The Paloma was heavy on the sparkling water which I didn't enjoy (tasted watered down). I am excited to come here again.

Wow!!! Amazingly great staff! Everyone was beautiful and genuine in attitude and service. The food was fantastic and exciting!!! portions were generous, fresh and tasty delicious, if I lived here in Hays I would be eating here often. I can't wait to return. Bravo to the crew.

This place is THEE fine dining establishment in hays and has hands down the best latin cusine , cocktails, local beer in a 300 mile radius. Great service, great local family run owners, and an authentic latin grandma making the best food youve tasted. I would drive an hour just to go here and im coming from LA where i would eat the best mexican food daily. Support places like a this or have your community filled with applebees. Great job

In Hays on our way to Colorado and I am so glad Yelpers pointed us in the direction of Las Hefas. The service and food were terrific! My husband wishes we lived here so he could try the entire menu.
