I got to experience the Keeper of the Plains statue from two places. The best was when I was right under it while kayaking on the Arkansas River. The other was peering out at it from a big window at Exploration Place. In both cases, I was struck by the beauty of the statue. Then I learned that this statue is lit with fire every night by indigenous folks who live in the area! That is amazing. It made me love the statue even more. Keeper of the Plains means a lot to many people, and I love that it's so revered and so accessible to the public.Keeper of the Plains is a Wichita gem, so you need to experience it while you're in town.

This monument was really, really awesome. You can see it from quite a ways away on both sides of the river. We went there at night to see it lit and decided we must come back to see it the next day. I HIGHLY recommend seeing the lighting at night (9 to 9:15 in the summer)! For some reason I thought that the raised hands would light up (LOL) but there were large circles around the base of the statue...I thought it was really neat and I've very glad we didn't miss it on our one night in Wichita. The next day we returned and walked around the park. It was very clean and all of the views on the bridge were pretty amazing. It felt safe to walk around in the day time and at night. It was a great way to stroll for at least a half hour.

This place is located on the river. It is a good way of knowing the history of the city and the native Americans that lived here. You can walk straight up to the monument. At night they do light up fires around it. I wish I could have seen it at night. Right behind the keeper of the planes statue is a wall with a lot of information regarding the Native Americans and the plains. You can walk along the river to get a glimpse of the keeper of the planes from a different view. Parking is nearby and free.

It's a small city park with a bridge and water feature. It's great how they incorporated the education with a background music. It felt very serene as I immerse myself to the interesting facts and art. I usually experience this in a paid museum. I enjoyed it

There is a truth universally acknowledged, you can take the girl out of the prairie, but some things remain the same. I will always have an affinity for thunderstorms, sunflowers, and the Keeper of the Plains. I love the upgrades they did in the early 2000s and catching a glimpse of it when the ring of fire is lit, is really something special. Blackbeard Bosins sculpture is an important symbol to the people of Wichita and it never ceases to be impactful.

If you're in Wichita, don't miss this beautiful tribute to native Americans who settled in the area after being driven from Texas and Oklahoma. The 44' statue may be seen from either side of where the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers meet. While the statue was donated to the city of Wichita in 1974, the point where it is now placed was only completed in 2006. The 2 pedestrian bridges that meet near the statue have a bow and arrow design at the top. The plaza has several interesting displays, and is adjacent to the Mid-America All-Indian Museum, which is not accessible from the plaza. Free parking for the plaza is available on either end of the pedestrian bridges. We visited mid-day, so did not see the lighted display.
