Super unprofessional employees and management. My friend drove an hour with her two small children to visit a kitten they had seen online. She and her kids immediately fell in love with the kitten, but were told they couldn't adopt. When I emailed some concerns to management, it took them three weeks to reply with an email that I was never intended to see. Their response to my complaint was that it was "farfefched" ... as if my friend would drive an hour one direction to adopt a kitten only to opt out of the adoption after seeing how much her kids and the kitten loved each other. This was my email complaint (shorteded)A male employee in his late twenties/ early thirties with light brown hair, glasses and white plugs in his earlobes "helped" my friend's family out with their desired adoption. My friend went in to adopt Mitzi around closing time today (6/25) with her two sons who are five and seven. They saw Mitzi online and went to visit her, but also saw two other kittens just in case - they knew immediately Mitzi was the kitten for their family. Mitzi obviously felt the same as she was running across the youngest child's lap and was very playful during their time with her. Unfortunately, my friend was unable to adopt Mitzi due to two employees. They made passive aggressive remarks about the kids not being able to handle kittens and were very rude to her and her children. While the boys were trying to get the kittens to play with the toys, one of the employees said "they are street cats, they don't like toys, they don't like you, and they don't like kids". When Mitzi ran across the youngest child's lap he got excited and squirmed a little - one of the employees criticized the child for moving and my friend for bringing the child. They said that she needs an adult cat instead of a kitten. They even said at one point to her "maybe if we left the room they would actually want to play with you guys more" then wouldn't leave the room to allow the family to play with the kittens. When my friend expressed interest in adopting Mitzi, one employee said to her "she is my favorite and I won't let her go home with just anyone". They also told her that she needs to adopt an adult cat as her kids shouldn't be allowed around kittens. This is highly disappointing as these children have grown up around dogs and have been around cats their entire lives.

This place does wonderful work for our community. They facilitate around 20 pet adoptions most days. My daughter worked there for a time. The work is rewarding but difficult. KHS employees should be cut some slack.

My husband took my inlaws (who drove up from Oklahoma) to the Humane Society on 6/8/21 at about 2:30pm. They walked around and looked at the dogs available for adoption and decided they would like to meet one for potential adoption. My husband put their names in to meet the dog. They were the only ones in the waiting room and nobody acknowledged them beyond the sign-in for 40 minutes. The ladies at the front desk were just sitting around chatting. He could see volunteers bringing dogs in and out. After 40 minutes he went up to ask that his name be removed from the list because nobody seemed to be concerned about them and his parents would look elsewhere to adopt. The lady's response was "ok, have a nice day".What bewilders me more than the wait is that so many animals have to be saved from the Kansas Humane Society by rescues or they are put down because they aren't adopted. There was a very responsible customer potentially ready and willing to save one of the dogs and nobody seemed to care. There wasn't even an attempt to keep them from leaving, no excuse, or anything. It just breaks my heart that people staffing the facility would rather sit around laughing and talking instead of doing whatever it took to find one of the animals a home. I will no longer be donating to this organization and will donate instead to a rescue that goes above and beyond to adopt their animals.

DO NOT BRING PETS HERE. This place is the worst for any pet. They literally have them caged up and let them pee and poop where they are. The dogs are in horrible conditions. My dog was here for quarantine and she en I got him Back after 5 days he was skinny and ate like he was starving for a week. If they don't like animals why do they even work with them? I usually don't write reviews but I feel like this has to be heard! This place should be shut down

Disappointed is not even the word. Today's staff.. useless. No proper customer service etiquette whatsoever. Didn't bother to ask my husband or I if we needed anything or if they could show us around, when clearly we were looking for someone to help us. Instead.. they looked down and continued to be on their phones. At least act like you have some energy to be at YOUR job. And let's not even get to the dogs. Those poor things do NOT look healthy. Please evaluate this place or shut it down.

I brought 3 kittens to surrender and after evaluating them they told me one of the kittens wasn't playful and was deemed "unadoptable". They said they would be happy to euthanize him for me. KHS told me if I paid $50 each for the other 2 kittens, they would contact me if they were not adoptable and I would be able to save them if I then paid an additional $50 for each kitten. If I didn't pay the kittens would be euthanized. When I questioned why the kittens might be deemed "unadoptable", the employee became angry and said they might not pass medical. She then mumbled something at me and left the room. After 20 minutes she didn't return so I took the kitten she wanted to euthanize and left. Because I didn't have $100 to give KHS they immediately euthanized the 2 small kittens that I had left with them. The KHS does not want your surrender pets. If you do pay the $50 when you surrender your pet they will call you in a couple days to tell you your pet is not adoptable so they can charge you another $50 and give the animal back to you. I wouldn't have left the 2 kittens with KHS if I had known they were going to kill them.

Adopted my fur baby from KHS and had the best experience. It was so easy and the people there were really friendly. I think they could probably clean up after the dogs allele more often but other than that I have nothing bad to say.

The staff are rude and not understanding! I took my dog to do a meet with another dog that I was potentially going to adopt. There is a rude staff member as I was walking around looking at the dogs. And the staff that did the dog meet we're over the top rude left me for 10 minutes in the hallway with my dog And did not help me so I just decided to leave!
