Johnny's Tavern West

Pros: OMG, get the street tacos with shrimp. They are so yummy. I really enjoyed the sauce that comes with them. I also recommend the sangria and get a side of brussels sprouts. Service was great.Cons: DirtyPretty gross and unprofessional to have uncleaned, oily menus. There was flattened what looked like an old French fry on my menu. Nasty. Please take the time to sanitize your tables, menus and seats. Overall, the experience was fine.

Very good food! The Buffalo Pizza is great, I had mine with blue cheese grumbles. Their Tavern Wing Sauce tastes like a "Whiskey Hot Buffalo Sauce" love the flavor and glad I ordered a whole bottle. The seasoned fries were very delicious pub style fries a++We got their meat pizza and it was very good, only critique is they put most of the toppings around the center BUT the pizza was very very good!The Salad was of much higher quality than you see at other places with a mix of lettuces. The side of ranch we ordered was 8oz and tasted home made! It was a comparable price to other sauce sides at restaurants except you get 8oz not 2 tablespoons, excellent value!The cheese sticks which I figured would be small, were massive, excellent value for the money. The wait staff were friendly inside and seemed to enjoy being there, the atmosphere was of a classy but relaxed tavern, loved it. You guys deserve a great rating, keep up the great work!

One of the least favorite places I visited on my first night in the area. The kitchen closed early which wasn't a big deal but the bartender just simply didn't seem knowledgeable about mentioning some of the drink selections they might have offered. The crowd here is a majority of college kids. Plenty of parking, easy access to the streets as well. Prices are a bit high as well.

Great service and great food. The place is clean and I alway enjoy the atmosphere. The portions of food are very generous and I get to have leftovers the next day.

So, we came here last minute. They were able to accommodate us nicely and the food came out surprisingly quick. We split the nachos which were pretty good. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich and I thought it was fantastic. Good tangy sauce, fries were solid and maybe it's strange to say but their ranch is really good. All and all it was a great experience. I was surprised how good it was because I felt like it got beat up in the reviews. Also, just a side note. Someone got a burger and it looked a little puny. I'd suggest a double if I were you.

What happened to your wings Johnny? I thought i would give you another chance.. but the dry overcooked wings on a Saturday afternoon just made me want to fly out of there! The sweet potato fries were nicely cooked and the side salad... I mean full salad... no actually.. it looks like a side salad - was just enough of a serving.

I used to love Johnnys, but my recent 9/3 visit there has caused me to rethink my perspective. I was in a party of four. Two of us ordered the "Rug BLT", I'm assuming for rugby or something. It was a BLT with an egg. Hard to mess up, right? Wrong. The sandwich did not have much bacon and the bread was barely toasted. I ordered the "Patty Melt", or Tank7 Melt. I put it in quotes because everyone in the world that I've ever met has the same vision of a patty melt sandwich. Normally it is a hamburger patty with cheese and onions and some sauce that have been grilled together as a sandwich. This was just two extremely thick pieces of Texas toast served barely toasted, and certainly without being cooked with the burger inside, the cheese, or any kind of sauce or grilled onions.The burger was just sitting on top of the lower piece of bread with a couple onion straws on top of the plain burger itself. There was the remnants of a piece of cheese underneath the burger, but it was a very thin piece of cheese if it was there at all. I really wish I had taken a picture of it because I've never seen such a sad looking excuse for a sandwich. I also asked for onion rings as my side, but instead of traditional breaded, onion rings these were essentially what you would make onion straws out of. Maybe they don't do traditional rings, and I don't know if they have recently change their supplier for onion straws or if they were out of onion rings, but they were horrible. The fourth person ordered a wedge salad. It was as expected but very little dressing, bacon, or anything else.....but more or the onion straws. Our server was also new and did fine but was not properly trained regarding etiquette. She pointed out the pre calculated tip amounts on the bill, in case we were having questions about how much to tip. Oh well. Plenty of other places to go in Lawrence. I used to love their Tank 7 Melt but not sure what happened. Hoping they had a new chef, or some other temporary glitch.

Nice people, lots of draft beer selections, very good burgers and the fish and chips were also very good. A little pricey, so 4 stars.

Good laid back restaurant. Service is usually good. Food is good. Atmosphere is good for a bar/restaurant. Most of the daily specials are okay, you can tell they are specials though. Only complaint is the manager speaks a little loudly, but not a huge deal, not so bad to take away any stars. I'm a regular and enjoy the place.

Very good pizza, thin and crispy and amazing Buffalo chicken dip. Known now for their food. Lots of tables and good spot to feed a group or groups. It was my hangout spot during college. The Up and Upstairs- second bar, was an upper class man hang out. I was there recently for an event , good memories. They only rent out the Up and Under now for special events.
