Iron Skillet

Come back by the Iron Skillet & the Travel Plaza to fuel up & eat on the way home from taking care of some stuff up around Topeka, Ks down the road aways.Something has happened since last time come through the area back in March 2024.Middle of lunch time & hardly any customers. Would think at least 1/2 full or so with the gas station/store/hotel right there. Maybe 5-8 customers in there.Waitress was some younger short girl who just seemed to be distracted by something.Food not near as good as last time stopping in.Bathroom was dirty real bad & the place had an off smell to it-kinda sour.Could see into the kitchen, some lady cooking who gave the impression was stressed or confused about something.Too bad. Hope it goes back to ways it was on stop back in March.

Its easy to see why they have been in business so long...everything in there is done right! The restaurant is squeaky clean everywhere, the waitress that served us noticed my enthusiasm to learn the fruit bowl contained pineapple so made sure there was an abundance of it in the bowl. Our breakfast was great, and not over-salted, which we really appreciated! Bathroom was clean as a whistle (loved the smell of the soap!)

When I am traveling from St. Louis, MO to Castle Rock, CO and on my return trip, I make it a point to pick up my dinner to go from here! The employees are great! I decided to stop at the restaurant and place my order in person today. Mary was great! I ordered the Ribeye Dinner, the Southern Style Green Beans and Ham and Bean Soup. EVERYTHING tasted fantastic! EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection! And the portions were great! I will continue to stop here!

Was by far the worse kitchen I have ever stepped foot in. Cross contamination, bad food being served and a manager unfit for the position. How this place is still open I have no clue. Run away from here. Disgusting!!

I know COVID has hit everyone hard, but a weary traveler needs a place that is open to put some effort into the food. I can tolerate slower service, especially later in the evening, but slower service with lukewarm food That was overdone and then warmed up is hard to get excited about. Malfunctioning equipment kept me from being able to pay with a credit card. It was obvious they were trying, but it was a sub-par experience. This was my first time at an Iron Skillet, it will also be my last. I tipped over 20%, because I think the staff was trying Their best and the problem is beyond their control

The food orders were good and very large. Prices were reasonable Services great. Would recommend displace to anyone traveling through town. We give us a five star rating.

I don't know where to begin. Walked in and all I smelled was a nasty bathroom throughout the whole place. I got the pot roast which was barely like warm and had several cold spots. Green beans were barely even cooked and I took 2 sips of my Mountain Dew and all I tasted was nasty dishwater and cleaners. Place was also dirty and disgusting. Will not ever return!!! Wait staff was iffy. One chick was rude and acted like she didn't even want to be here and was swearing out back. I could hear her in the dining room and there were kids here!! Very unprofessional.

Not sure why this place is only rated 2.5 stars. Food was well prepared and the staff was friendlier than most places. I got the fish and the wifey got breakfast. will definitely be back

It was understaffed. we should have left during our 10 min wait for any of the open tables. Only 2 servers waiting on 5 tables that were occupied. Those 2 servers were very friendly, and doing the best they could. We're heard there was a new cook so maybe that's why the food was so bad. We ate what we could of the under cooked food, and left. It was just bad!

We were very happy with our dinner there last night. The pot roast was excellent. Mary Lou was our waitress. she was exceptionally pleasant, responsive, and filled with good cheer. She made our stop in Salinas memorable.
