My daughter has had lab work done at Heartland Pathology several times. It is convenient to her doctor's office. Last year we changed insurance companies. The new insurance was through Ambetter. We checked the Ambetter website to see if Heartland Pathology was in the network and it was. So we used the lab and they said Ambetter would not pay. After many, many discussions with the Heartland Pathology manager, he admitted that they were on Ambetter's list and they paid for the claim. He told us if we had this problem in the future to come to him. It happened again the next time and we had a very hard time getting him to respond, but again he said he would look into it. The next thing we got was a letter from a collection agency! We had been waiting to hear back from him on the resolution. Had he contacted us, we would have appealed to Ambetter. They do good lab work but the billing is deceitful. We will not be using them again.

My son came for some reproductive and lab tests before starting his cancer treatments. First they discussed his results with us in the lobby (tiny lobby full of people). I ask if there was somewhere else we could talk, then they walked us over to a private room. Second, few days later they called him with his blood work and told him over the phone, he was HIV positive! He called me freaking out and upset, rightfully so. We ending up leaving work and came straight over to speak with someone in person. We found out later they didn't use the specialized lap for him, they should've, being that he had cancer..."no big deal, theirs nothing to worry about, we see fails positive all the time with cancer patient". Why would you call someone with those results? Two, why would you not tell them that there is a possibility of a false positive. I drove him to KC the next day to the RRC center in KC. Our experience was night and day. In the end, he didn't have HIV and he was able to proceed with his treatment plan. Lots of unnecessary distress, money and time spent. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here. Very unprofessional.

My daughter has surgery on October 14, 2024. We didn't know this company had a specimen from her surgery until we received a COLLECTIONS notice around January 7th for $24.18!!! It's kind of hard to pay a bill when you don't know about it. Needless to say, I'm very upset! And unfortunately, there was/is nothing we can do about it. Hospitals and doctors who use these people need to be aware of these practices and hopefully quit using them.
