Steak Night

Sometimes you don't expect much, and those times seem more often then not when you are on assignment in good old McPherson, KS.Hank's represents a shining example of one of those times. Pleasantly surprised doesn't begin to describe.Steak night isn't every night, so get used to the specials and schedule on Tuesday and Thursday. You'll be glad you did. The filet was awesome at $14, and the Kansas strip had loads of flavor at $13. Far better than anything Applebees can ruin, at a fraction of the price.Salad comes in an aluminum take-away container, with your choice of dressing packet. Still, the ingredients are super fresh.Don't miss the Texas straws, a variation that unrings the onion.Lots of televisions, a full bar, two bar box pool tables, and a shuffleboard. The place is clean, the bathrooms are clean, the waitstaff and bartenders are super friendly, and the owner even moreso.Forget trying to get a decent steak at the Best Western... this is where you go. Tell 'em the NY hippie sent you.

My best friend and I just sat at a booth for over 10 minutes without anyone waiting on us. There were 2 female bartenders that looked at us several times, one even came and checked on the 3 tables around us but wouldn't make eye contact with us. So we just left. Sad because in the past it was better service than this. Tonight's service was beyond terrible.

Food or bar, this is a nasty sort of place. All the food is cooked on a dirty hot table behind the bar. It's really not good at all. Loud, dirty, Townie bar.

Definitely stop in if you're in the area for a great old-fashioned home-made burger, fresh fries, cold beer.

Their food is surprisingly awesome for what it looks like when you walk in. The burgers are delicious and cheap and they make them with meat from a local meat market that's all locally sourced. I eat there more then anywhere else in town and still love it. Only reason a star is off is for the fact that it takes forever when there are lots of people in there.

I gave this place multiple chances, but the service is so abysmal that I don't want to go back. You basically have to flag down the server multiple times to get her attention and even then, it will still take several minutes for her to come to your table.Beer selection is minimal and most of the food is not good.Thursday night is steak night, which is popular with the locals. The KC strip and bacon-wrapped filet are actually pretty good, but the poor service is just not worth it.Expect a 30 minute wait for initial service, an hour wait for food once you order, and then another 45 minutes to an hour to receive your check and pay. Even then, good luck having the correct items on your check!

My boyfriend first tried this place out 3 years ago while in McPherson for work, and he's been wanting to take me there ever since. We were both sorely disappointed in our trip there last week. First, it's really awkward walking in to a place with no host or sign stating to seat yourself, so we just guessed and sat in a booth. The whole place was outdated, but that doesn't bother us. We were promptly greeted with a "hi, I'll be right with you", but that was the only good part of the service. Half the restaurant was empty, but it took a while for someone to actually take our drink order. When we got our drinks (1 beer and 1 water) close to 10 minutes later, we were more than ready to order our food. Our burgers took almost 45 minutes, despite that it appeared upon our arrival, that the main dinner rush was over. Our server never came by to explain the wait or ask if we needed more drinks; my boyfriend finally flagged her down for another beer. The food was good overall, besides the dried out bun that they used on my boyfriend's burger. That was pretty gross and it just crumbled, like it'd been left out since they opened for lunch. And the missing jalapeños was a little annoying after such a wait. The big disappointment was that the cheese balls have changed since my boyfriend was there the first time. They're no longer homemade, just the cheap pepper jack cheese balls that you can get at any good burger joint. As much as I hate to say it, we probably would try a few other places in McPherson before we went back to Hank's.

Once you find it upon the backside of Main Street, don't let the outward appearance fool you. The inside is spacious, staff is friendly & enjoyable sides. An extra star for the 8 ounce filet wrapped in bacon. SURPRISE, apparently Thursday nights are steak night. Hank cooks them himself -- truly amazing!

Went here on co-workers recommendation. It took 45 min for the waitress to first come to our table, then another 20 minutes for the drinks to show up, followed by 30 min for food. Way understaffed and unresponsive. Food was mediocre burgers. Not impressed

Honestly, we are more elderly for a Pub Bar and the ambiance was lacking from that point of view, however, we both agreed we had the best cheese burger with added sauteed onions we had ever had. I had Texas toothpicks - delicious; my husband had the fries and they were also very good. It was a five for us!
