El Mezcal III

Terrible service. Waiter took our order brought it and then left for a long period of time . Came back when completely finished and we were needing to leave. Didn't even ask if we needed a refill. We had to ask. Then the manager. (Not of ethnic background)? Over charged us. I looked up the prices just to make sure . And he sure did overcharge . The food is not that great. Too salty. Not enough actual flavor . Seems dirty. Dated . And waiters are lazy. Surprisingly the old ,old waiters move faster and are more attentive ( actualy WAITING) then Those younger ones . Sad really. Won't be going back.

Food: fresh, hot, and delicious Service: fast and very friendly Ambience: casual and chill! One of the few restaurants in Topeka I will return to.

Placed a to go order tonight. Pan fried tacos, a tamale and rice and beans and cheese dip. They said 20 minutes until it was ready. I went in 15. We live 3 minutes from them. Everything was soggy and cold when we got home. The chicken had obviously been sitting in some water for a while. The salsa had so much oregano in it that it tasted like pasta sauce. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Do better!!

What can you say about "El Mez" here in Topeka? They've been around for a LONGGGGG time. They don't do anything spectacular and yet I've never felt like I had a really poor meal. Most folks probably frequent on their "cheap margs days" (up to $1.50 in 2023) which are served in small plastic cups. Veterans like myself order them two at a time and they go well with their decent complimentary chips and salsa.Having sampled much of the menu, my "go-to" entree is the Tacos de Carne Asada which comes with 3 generous sized tacos, pico de gallo, a roasted pepper salsa and a side of refrieds.They are well known for their Mexican cheese sauce that they smother many of their dishes with. This prompted a dear Hispanic friend of mine to label the whole establishment El Mez Gravy. My daughter enjoyed MANY "Vegetarian Combo B" (two bean burritos smothered in that cheese sauce) during her youth!

First impression was the place was dirty-food all over the floor and several dirty tables. Our waiter was nice but disinterested. Ordered a margarita and it was brought out in 2 small water cups because they were out of glasses. So odd.I ordered the Chile Colorado which had great flavor from the meat being grilled and the sauce was great. The meat was in larger chunks than I have experienced at other places. Solid tortilla served with solid rice/beans.I'd try again but there are other options.

I used to be a regular here back in my college days.... The taste has not dropped off one bit!!So I rate 5 stars! Yes this place does white cheese dip the RIGHT way. (As if I'm a professional chef) the family loved it. Ordering was easily done over the phone and lightning fast it was ready. Short drive to get it from the hotel... Still hot when I got it back.Had Pollo loco and it was delicious! I already know the leftovers will be just as delicious.Mask life was in effect. & It was posted at the door..+2 stars The line was short (call in order) generous amount of chips came with our order. Ordered large cheese dip / large guacamole also salsa had plenty to share.Their house salsa was flavor packed and spicy one I ordered...well the heat was there!!!.. Yummo. This experience was pretty delightful & delicious. +5 stars I will go back for sure. They get a phenomenal review from me. The staff is friendly & delightful as well. Keep up the good work. The service was good. We had a larger party and waiter did very well keeping up with us. I ordered 2 tamales. I don't know how old they were or what the problem was with them, but they were inedible. The rest of the group ate their meal. My wife had dinner at the downtown restaurant last night. Her food wasn't good either.

Felt like home from the moment I got in! Great chips & salsa, fantastic chorizo, wonderful nachos! Always makes my mouth water

First off they always welcome you to the restaurant. Always happy to see you and say hello. Salsa has a great flavor and has substance . Food is good and they actually have substantial sides for meals. The refried beans were fresh and had yummy cheese on top. Nice and clean They appreciate you being there whether it's your first time or your 47th. Go find your favorite menu item. I keep finding new favorites.

I've never been here before and have lived a block away for over 2 years.Let me tell you something folks. I walked in without a clue about the place except what's online. As I walked in clueless to what was to come. Immediately I was welcomed by my new friend Roberto inviting me to either sit at a table or as I then asked,"Is there a bar here also"? He gladly pointed me into the direction and walked with me across the restaurant with all the class a person with integrity would do. I sat down at the bar, Roberto then offered me the impressive menu of mouthwatering, sizable and authentic cuisine that is their specialty of course. I ordered a large margarita which was 2 fold by the time I left and was then offered the chips and salsa which of course I agreed to as he listened to our conversation admirably. I requested hot salsa which he brought with fresh and crispy warm chips, the mild and hotter salsa and it all was without any issues or delay. It was impressive for Topeka. I was not rushed, forgotten about nor was I not welcomed into the family atmosphere. Definitely a local establishment that deserves 5 stars from someone that will call it out if "it ain't right". I will support the kindness shown to me, a complete stranger walking in and now feel that it's a safe place for all, has great food and an great atmosphere that lacked drama. I saw a family atmosphere with a definite awareness to respect. This establishment definitely exudes integrity. Well done folks ...Well done. Thank you for the open door and respect.
