Chicken House

Service was very SLOW! Chicken Livers were outstanding! Good chicken tenders. Enjoyed the simple salad, good fries. We witnessed numerous people waiting to pay and staff just walked by. Large parking lot.

Boy, is this place busy! Big groups come in, sit down. We came specifically for the fried chicken. The waitress took awhile to get to us. We order the 1/2 chicken with green beans, butterfly coated breast with green beans and a side order of hand breaded onion wings. She asked if we would like rolls with that. Yes. We waited 45 minutes for our order. They were short handed, as it appeared someone quit mid rush. Our waitress began running register for a bit. When our order arrived, my husband received the wrong order. The waitress went back to reorder. She came back with the onion rings, no rolls. We ate. After our meal, the waitress appeared with the correct chicken. We got a go box with chicken and rolls. The place was still packed and all 3 dining areas were opened at this time. The chicken was basic, nothing to write home about. Someone didn't add seasoning, as the coating was bland. The breast hubby ate was overcooked. The onion rings were outstanding. The green beans had been cooked with bacon, so they were flavorful. A one and done for us. On to the next chicken house.

3 stars for food and a bonus star added for full-time 5th grade teacher, part-time waitress, Lilly. She was sweet as can be and was obviously proud of what they had to offer.From the typical shredded bag salad, cellophane packaged Club crackers, to the iced tea served with the squeezable plastic lemon juice bottle, everything about this landmark small town diner says "country style".We enjoyed their famous fried chicken but were a little disappointed in the grade/size of most of the pieces other than breast portions. It is not on par with the Brookville Hotel in Abilene, KS or other great places in the South for fried chicken, but still a nice little spot.

Just the best food! And fantastic service but bring your cash! They don't take credit

This is a top drawer chicken restaurant. But it is also so much more. Great chicken food, great service. And easy payout or pay off. Long time favorite of Locals and every body else For miles around. The local flint hills are beautiful drive from or to this place. Been here for 64 years with the a reputation of being a Jewel in the Flint Hills. Long time family food and goodness. The care and food is provided by people who have been a waitress there for 47 Years. It's all just down home amazing. A must visit destination.

The Chicken House of Olpe is a family staple. I grew up frequenting the restaurant when visiting nearby family. Now that I live in Oregon, I still make the effort to get at least one meal from the Chicken House when I'm in the area. Over the past 30ish years (probably more, but I am 30ish), the food has been consistently tasty - traditional American country food. Any issue is fixed right away as the service is always spot-on and friendly. The atmosphere is Kansas homey. There is a strong sense of community to the restaurant too. My favorite? The chicken fried steak and the glorious cheese balls. The onion rings are a family favorite. Of course, you gotta try the fried chicken. Really, there are no losers on the menu. Everything is delicious.

It's worth the drive....end statement. Finger licking must have Fried Chicken. We checked out this spot which is about 12 miles south of Emporia. Local owned and local service - which is a great thing. The Staff was nice and welcoming. We had the 2 piece white (wing and breast) and 3 piece (breast, wing, thigh) dinners. Key point dinner...and all under $10. The dinner comes with side salad, potato of choice (baked, fries, mash or green beans) drink, and dinner rolls. Be prepared to wait - this goodness isn't a quick flash fry. Super tender super juicy which will leave you full and actually wanting more. The place is decorated with some pretty cool artifacts! It made US Today as the best fried chicken spot in Kansas.....so why not give it a whirl.

We waited over an hour for 5 meals(4 adults and a child)... It gave my husband diarrhea.... plus they charged us almost $100 for 5 people to eat plus drinks... Our meals were only 62.50 ..... But they charged us almost $100... Nobody was out front when we got there and we didn't really see much the staff...

Excellent food. The fried chicken was delicious. The mashed potatoes and gravy was good along with the salad. The service was quick
