My wife and I have had a continuous membership at the Candle for 40 years. Undet the leadership of Judah Craig, the restaurant/club has really improved and now is as good as one can find in Wichita. The steaks are wonderful and the side dishes vary. The bar service pours real drinks and they don't skimp on the liquor so watch out. No dessert compares to the Tumbleweed which is a 60 year Candle tradition. Whether a business lunch, a happy hour gathering of friends, a special event or a private gathering, the Candle is our country club without the pool and golf course. The evening entertainment is fun and varied. Good bands and vocalists. A fine place for good food and fun.Rod Stewart

This is a really great club! It has the feel of an old 1960's jazz club but with modern emanates. When going for lunch you can easily have a conversation without shouting. Dinner is a little more crowded but the noise level is still not overwhelming. The service is very good and the food is top notch. Since it is a private club you can have a martini and light up your favorite cigar in the lounge. Live entertainment is provided most evenings and the bands are very good. I always have a good time here and I like taking friends as this place just has a nice atmosphere.

So when you first walk in, big whiff of smoke instantly. I wish I had known that prior to signing up for an event at the place because I am highly sensitive to the smell of smoke with my allergies. Luckily, our group was in a back room that was not as potently strong as the main dining area. I was overall really dissatisfied with the service at the club. We ordered food at 6:15 to eat dinner before our private event started and food around at 7:05 pm. I asked the bartender who was also our server where the food was and she said I am not supposed to get it the kitchen will bring it out when they have time. I ordered well before to everyone else came to join in on the private event. In addition, I unwrapped my silverware so I had my napkin on the table and the server took my silverware and I said oh that is clean can I have it back? She said she would bring me replacement back shortly and well that never came. I had to ask for replacement after getting up out of my seat looking for the server. After food finally arrived It sat at the bar for a bit before it was actually served, if I was able to easily move from my crammed spot I would have. I then had to wave the server down to bring the food over because I was starving, along with my friends who ordered meals as well at the same time. We weren't checked up on at all and I had to keep standing up to go talk to the server to ask for items for the meal. In addition, I had to take my plate back up to the bar after eating it on my lap because of how late it arrived. I was not happy gratuity was forced on my meal because I was not exactly sure what our server did to earn it. The dish I ordered was really good, a pasta chicken fettuccini dish. My meal also came with a side salad. My suggestion is they could expand their side salad topping options, but they did have a large selection of dressings that were good! I would order it again, but I don't plan on returning here after my bad severing experience the whole night.

My parents recently joined the Candle Club so I got to be my dad's guest last night. One of Wichita's oldest and most well-kept secrets, this is a private, members-only club which gives the whole experience an air of exclusivity that makes going to the Candle Club special. One of my biggest complaints about Wichita diners is how early they eat their evening meal. Yet here we were at 6 p.m. trying to eat before a 7 p.m. event, and the dining room was empty. The hostess walked back and forth reserving tables for future members, so I knew the room would eventually be packed. This is my kind of (virtual, since they weren't there yet) crowd. I had the Beef Carpaccio salad ($13) with a side of Roasted Fingerling Potatoes ($3), and a glass of Rosenblum Zinfandel ($7). The thinly sliced tenderloin was not raw as I had expected, but seared very rare, and displayed around the outer rim of the plate. In the middle sat a pile of baby spinach tossed lightly with shredded parmesan and capers in truffle oil and garnished with a lemon. The flavors together were very light and uncomplicated. Just the right amount of tart and salt with the beef. Dad had the Calf Liver and Onions with a salt-crusted baked potato and creamed spinach ($15). Organs aren't my thing, but the texture was nice and the flavors of the caramelized onion with the savory gravy and crispy breading were a nice medley. I couldn't get past the iron mineral flavor of the liver, but it was liver. You can't get around it.Ambience was straight out of a Good Ol Boys lounge from the 70's. Gold-frosted mirrored walls, burgundy leather chairs, rich old dudes smoking cigarettes... It made me miss my great grandpa Pop, who lived into his mid-80's and was a member of the Candle Club for decades. There is no other place in town like the Candle Club. Sometimes it seems a little puffed up and ridiculous to think of an exclusive members-only dinner club, but I have to admit I'd be genuinely sad if it ever went away. Definitely worth the experience!

Very unsatisfied with evening menu. Whoever is managing the dinner menu should rethink what they offer. Prime rib sandwiches are not available in the evening. That's ridiculous. It WAS one of the best things on the menu. Evening manager very rude. Wait staff very accommodating however.

I had been going to the Candle Club for years in the 80's and 90's. At one time we lived next door to the Werts so I was always welcome. We have since moved and live in Dallas. My husband and my daughter planned a surprise birthday party for me at the Candle Club. The service was outstanding. My daughter was stressed with putting it all together and Lafonz and Devon recognized this and took over and got everything all set up for her. Lexie the waitress was also excellent. The food was good and all of the guests were treated respectfully. It was nice to have a private room because we had a large group. The club looks great and has maintained the wonderful atmosphere.I want to thank everyone for a wonderful evening. In addition the band was great and we enjoyed dancing.
