Blue Hereford

I had a breakfast of burnt bacon, partially uncooked eggs, bread that was barely toasted and soggy has brown potatoes. The only redeeming thing about this breakfast was the waitress who was very upbeat and provided excellent service.

Cottage cheese on a salad, fried everything, and farmers that gossip for days. Home. The Blue Hereford is one of 4 restaurants within a 30 mile radius of where I grew up so I have many fond memories of this place throughout the years. Grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, graduation lunches, baby showers, the list goes on and on. I've never had bad coffee, or bad service. I always run into an extended family member and get a chance to catch up. All in all, it's just home.

As part of my former job, I would travel all across the country.... literally. As such, I would sometimes end up in places like Ford, KS. No one would consider the Blue Hereford a culinary destination; instead, it is the only restaurant in this tiny West Kansas town. My memory was less about my breakfast (which was just an ordinary breakfast) and more about how four regulars told a man from Denver to get the mechanic from Dodge City because the local one -- all eyes on me -- was a "Mexican". Apparently, these regulars had decided that I too was a "Mexican". God bless them. It would likely have been a less comfortable scene if they had falsely decided I was "Arab". I wolfed down my food, got the check, and got the hell out of Kansas.

Two of the best ribeye steaks I have ever had were at the Blue Hereford. The first time I ate there I found it by accident when I was hungry. The second time my route took me near Ford I went out of my way to go to the Blue Hereford and it was just as good.

Good food but if your not a local don't expect good service. I waited 30 min with an empty glass as I watched the waitress go to the other tables multiple time to see if they needed anything.

Just cafe food. My husband had their specialty burger and I had the Reuben. Our food sat in back while our waitress chatted with some locals that came in for coffee. We heard great things about this little restaurant and felt we drove over 40 miles for nothing.
