I regularly buy bird seed and other supplies here and am always treated well. Today I needed to know where to take my ailing bird to find veterinary care and they immediately had a phone number for me. Then, when I came in, broken hearted after losing my pet, they gave me good advice on how to take care of my remaining bird and help her through her grieving process. Instead of selling me another bird I would have happily bought, they made sure I was doing what's best for the bird I have at home. I'm convinced their advice helped get her eating and chirping again. If you want to get good supplies and advice, or a healthy baby bird, you should definitely make this your first stop.

Birds are greatly pets for individuals who have time to give them the necessary attention. In addition, where you buy your bird along with the supplies is important as well.Birds of Paradise is a local family owned store in Wichita, KS. They do have bird breeders they get their birds from but they hand care for them which is why their birds are such great pets. Do not buy your bird from a big box chain.I started to come here after I moved to South East Wichita because it was only about 12 minutes down the street. They have everything from food, snacks, accessories, and pets. Super friendly staff and great customers that are super supportive as well. Currently, this is the only place I know of in town that is able to clip my birds nails and trim his beak because he isn't a fan of trimming it himself with the blocks I provide in the cage. My bird typically only lets me pet him, but luckily he also lets the owner of this place clip his nails and beak without screaming & bighting. Once the job is done he goes back into his cage. They offer all kinds of pet food from small to large size birds. Instead of buying a large 20-50 lb bag at a time it is nice that I can stop in every so often buy 5lb at a time and keep it in my fridge at home and refill my birds food as needed and it is always fresh. They also have great treat options for the bird like dried pineapple, tangerine, etc. This place is also the only place in town where you can take your own cage or rent a cage and leave your bird there for a small amount each day till you come back to town. They will feed, water, and care for your bird while you board it. There is no other place I know of in town that will do this. If you have a bird you know it is not good to leave it at home along for a long period of time because of how social they are, they need human interaction. The store also has its own store owned birds that are friendly and interactive. They speak many words and will play with you and talk with you as they please on their time. There are also gently used and brand new items from cages to toys. The prices are great! You won't be disappointed and even if you are comparing to online other stores you will see that they are very comparable. They only provide the best quality items here with great staff that want to help. They do get busy from time to time so you do need to be patient like when you have to wait in line for a nail/beak trim.Hopefully you have just as good as an experience your first time here as I do every time I visit.

My wife and drove down to Wichita on Saturday (8/5/17) to purchase a Parrotlet. Angela helped us and I cannot say enough good things about her and the rest of the staff. Knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy or hovering over you while you look at/interact with the different birds they have available (which are numerous). Those of you who've kept parrots for some time will also be impressed with how healthy and active the birds are. Obviously these folks know their stuff. Highly, Highly recommended. Oh and our new Parrotlet, Kermit, is already proving to be a wonderful addition to our family.

I got some zebra finches for my birthday here and the staff is awesome! They helped me in everything I needed and they even make their own seed. The parrots sort of creeped me out though...

We are devastated. We took our budgie to be boarded for the weekend. When we came to pick him up on Monday, they discovered he was sick. They do not check on the birds at all on Sunday we found out, so it was not until they went back to get him that they found him lethargic. By Tuesday morning, he was dead. This place is awful.

We read great reviews about Birds of Paradise so went for a visit in our exploration for a pet cockatiel. The team was so incredibly helpful and knowledgable we were instantly comfortable. We fell in love with a young bird and bought her just a few days after our first visit. I highly recommend this store for purchasing a pet and the supplies needed to care for them.

This place is very awesome. They are very nice and kind people that work there! They will let you hold most birds. We've been going there for 3-5 months. They put in a lot of work/care about there birds. I really am happy that I found them. I really recommend them!

Have been using them since the late 1980's for food and trims. If I want to buy a bird, this is the only place I will go because I know they don't buy from 'mills', they know where their babies come from. hey treat their birds humanely and with care, and don't just treat them like 'inventory'. If you've been to other shops around here, you know just what I mean. They clean cages daily, something very important to insure good health and prevent against infectious diseases. I dare you to find cages this clean in any other shop in the area (and surrounding). I also appreciate that birds get out of cage time, and can interact with customers. There is a big difference between birds that get free time outside their cage, and those who are locked inside all day, every day. Bird shop just outside of Wichita with the Zombie-like unhappy, dirty birds: you know who you are! (UPDATE: that Derby bird store has gone out of business since this was written)Food selection is upper-end; there are certain pellets I prefer to feed my birds, I would have to mail-order them if I couldn't get them here. Any size I need, I can get, and the prices are fabulous. Any seed specialty item I want? They have it. I have many different species of birds so being able to meet ALL of their nutritional and treat needs in one location is a real blessing. Just trying to imagine how I'd hunt down three different kinds of pellets plus FRESH seed for all my birds, gives me a headache!! Wouldn't take my birds anywhere else for a trim, ever! If Nancy stops trimming, I'll have to do it myself.
