I am in agreement with other reviewers. Rich history, so much variety and lots of fun facts. Great way to learn about the local area and inhabitants, and also connect with other parts of the country with shared history . Young, old, and in-between can find displays to enjoy.Staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming.

What an great museum. It is so far above what I'd expect from this size of a town. The staff was extremely helpful. We were given a map; which was needed to make sure we saw everything. It covers the history of Baxter Springs from the mid-1800s (founding) up to the present. There are a wide range of exhibits and various rooms throughout with both a lot of memorabilia and artifacts, yet also signs explaining what things are. There are 2 full floors; and a few small things outside. We saw everything; it took 2.5 hours. Great tour through the last 160 years of middle America.

If you are traveling through SE Kansas or along old Route 66, this will be one of your best highlights. If you're local, you may not know what a treasure you have in your own backyard. Excellent display of items that show the history of the Baxter Springs area. Plan on burning some time here as the collection is extensive and well displayed. Compliments to the center for the breadth history displayed.

Excellent museum! One of the better museums in the Midwest and the best in Kansas. Civil War and time period artifacts galore! This is definitely worth your time.

What an amazing museum. I might have given it four stars, but because it is so unexpected, so out of scale with the size of the community, I give it five stars. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable, the exhibits very well interpreted, and the entire experience was remarkable. I recommend this for anyone within a day's drive to visit the Baxter Springs Historical Museum.

Really Really Cool Museum. Was in Picher for a family reunion and found that this museum had inherited all the Picher material. Staff let us dig around in the storage area and found pictures of my grandmother in high school and lots more. Lots of cool exhibits and more history than one can take in. I never finished going through the whole musuem....next time for sure!!!! Great place!!

i stopped in during a break in my work schedule and I was majorly impressed with this place. the amount of information, memorabilia and reinactments were amazing. the reconstructed coal mine set was the most impressive and it had so much history on coal mining. also their native american history was very impressive. they covered the history of so many of them, you could stay all day. I never knew such a small town, had such a rich history. I plan on telling others to check it out!!!

This museum appears very unassuming in a plain, newer building. Inside, it's rather large. There are 2 full levels of exhibits. The top floor is primarily glass cases with a LOT of reading to do...a lot, as in, plan to spend a lot of time and don't bring little ones if you want to fully experience it. The lower level is more interactive and features full rooms of period items displayed in an attractive, well lit manner. I was quite impressed, especially as they do not charge admission at the time of this writing. We enjoyed looking at old yearbooks and checking out the outdoor caboose, cabin, and tank. My favorite thing about this museum was the donated items from local residents, some of which may seem "unworthy" of being displayed in a museum, but to me they were among the most interesting pieces as they reflect each period so well. Definitely make time for this if visiting the Baxter Springs area.

Great museum for anyone traveling through to visit. It's not a museum that offers a single focus. Instead, you'll find history for all enthusiasts. Thrilled to see the Cigar Store Indian that my father, (Ivan Crane), carved on display. Stop in and have a grand tour of history!
