My friend and I tried this hole-in-the-wall for lunch and the building was pretty under-developed. It took a while to get our food and the people working there were not rude but not enthusiastic. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was very dry. The flavor was good but there was too much crunchy bread and not enough sauce. My friend ordered the chicken drumsticks, which she enjoyed.

Wanted a Quick Bite. Ordered Chicken Fried Chicken w Green Tomatoes and Mac and Cheese. Fried Chicken w Yams and Gumbo and Fries. The food was amazing and the service was fast and great. Can't wait to try again!

Everything I have tried here is phenomenal -- from the main dish (catfish, oxtail) to sides (greens, okra, macaroni and cheese). The flavors are outstanding! The only downside I've found is that the business has very unreliable hours. I live out of state and when visiting for a week, it can be difficult to find this place open one day. I understand it's a small, family business, but it gets frustrating not being able to count on it being open when it should be. Other than that, I highly recommend this place.

Outstanding, very flavorful food. They have a great selection of items, and different specials (depending on the day).

Great selection of foods and great service. There is only one person taking orders and preparing food, so the wait time can be some times long, but the food is worth the wait. I love the red beans and rice, the buffalo fried okra, and fried fish is great!

This place has that southern home cooked authenticity to it that is hard to find, especially in Topeka. I love that the menu is evolving and you can find new specials on a regular

This was the worst experience I've ever had on catered food. 7.8.5 K was offering a $25 fee to fry a turkey brought in to cook for thanksgiving. When I got there @ 5p scheduled time they was 30min behind. Ok no problem when I got my food the owner had helped me by putting it in my SUV for me which was helpful. But when I got home to look at my turkey it was completely burnt I mean charred. How in the heck can a restaurant owner even feel comfortable giving me that bird. I will never go there again.

Good soul food is hard to find...especially in the Midwest. Being from the south, I would highly recommend this place. The food is fresh, delicious, and worth it. Will be back when I'm in town again.

Absolutely lights out southern cooking. The fried catfish, chicken fried steak, greens and fried okra. Sorry grandma, but this place has it figured out. Not recommending for atmosphere, but the taste is legit! My fave for take out in Topeka.

Epitome of fantastic food in a small place, run by small business owner. Service was fast and friendly. Great collard greens, yams, cornbread. First time there, but my brother and sister-in-law said the pork chops were great and the catfish was the best they'd ever had. Shout out to the owner for sharing his skills with us! I have to go back and try more items on the menu, like the BLT with fried green tomatoes. Yum....
