Disappointed at what happened when we were last there a couple weeks ago.My wife and son and I arrived about 1 p.m. There were several empty tables and booths. The greeter/waitress led us to a booth and we sat down. Then she immediately came back and said we had to move, because a group of five was walking down the path to the restaurant.Huh?Our mistake was to be kind enough to not question that and move to the very small booth she pointed us to.I've worked in the restaurant business and we eat in restaurants all over the world. We have never been asked to give up our table for someone else once we've been seated and I've never heard of any customers moved after they've been seated for another group. We decided to just leave. It slowly sunk in that we had been treated badly. We left, but then I returned to explain calmly to the waitress the reason we were leaving. She argued with me that it was okay to move us for a group that was two people larger. There isn't a reservation policy at Whidbey Doughnuts. We were there first. I understand you want to seat as many customers as possible and make the most money you can, but there were other tables available they easily could have moved this group to. We've never heard of anyone moving a group who was seated first to make way for a slightly larger group. That was a mistake. You make your money in the restaurant business by treating your customers fairly and ensuring repeat business. My family eats at Whidbey Doughnut maybe twice a month. My wife meets her friends there and eats there every week.As you can see below, the owner is a huge dick, and we will never go back.**Response from the owner 20 hours agoHi there -You had been led to your table but had yet to sit. You were moved to a second table to accommodate 5 elderly/handicapped women. It sounds like you decided to be offended after-the-fact and then came back to confront the server.Although unusual to move a party to a new table, I'm surprised you consider this such an egregious offense.~ Scott*Customer response to the owner 2/18/24Not even close to the truth. Two out of three of our party had been seated and had sat down.None of your party of "elderly handicapped ladies" had any trouble walking down the sidewalk. In fact, I am much more elderly and disabled than they are. But I don't make a big deal out of it like you did.Sad how you want to characterize that we were offended "after the fact." We were shocked by how we'd been treated and it took a while for it to register. What a pathetic, weak response that you try to minimize moving people and justify this.As I read through your responses to reviews, I don't think I've ever seen such a defensive business owner in my life. You are clearly an angry, unhappy person and your food and staff show it.That's OK. We will never patronize your restaurant ever again and I will tell everyone I know not to.Even better, I always thought your food was crap. You literally make some of the worst donuts I've ever seen.May you be forced to eat your awful food as long as you live.

Pleasantly surprised. It was Father's Day and we had no reservations. The other place that we wanted to go to had a 2 hr of wait which we didn't have as we were passing through. Came here instead, it was fantastic. Servers super friendly and on it. They were efficient and got us everything we needed from utensils to refills. Place was cozy and inviting, bathroom was a trek but it is shared with other storefronts. We started with the onion rings, it was like the blooming onion but it was in strands, the batter was so delicious. Our party ordered breakfasts and sandwiches. Chicken and waffles were stellar, I forgot to take a picture of my fish and chips but it was giant pieces of fish cooked to perfection. The corn beef hash is made in house and super delicious. Cinnamon roll was the size of a kids head. The egg benny was cooked perfectly. Don't let that name Whidbey Donut fool you.... It serves more than just donuts. Great place for food and service.

Bought a couple apple fritters for National Donut Day. Paid $13 for two barely-apple flavored donuts, with not a single chunk of apple. Not much of a donut shop.

Stopped in here with my wife for an after lunch sweet treat and picked up a $6 dollar Apple Fritter donut (yeah $6) to snack on. The fritter was a sad excuse for one, so heavy and stodgy my wife and I could only eat half of it together. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they just had an off day, and the fact I'm not rating it lower is because we didn't get anything else off the menu. It might just take me longer to come back and try this place, as I'd much rather get a sweet bagel from Whidbey Bagel Factory than try my chances at a donut from here.

Date night with my husband!Service: 5 StarsFood: 4 StarsDoughnuts: 5 StarsAtmosphere: 4 StarsOverall a great experience! We were looking for a place to eat on the south end of Whidbey Island and ran into this place. We were seated immediately, and our order was in just a few minutes later. Several parties were seated about the same time we were, but our server Aidyn (really, everyone's server) did a great job getting to everyone in a timely and professional manner. We had the fish and chips. They were very good, crunchy and not oily. They could have used a bit more salt in the batter, but I would get them again. The doughnut ham and Swiss was the right amount of crispy, sweet, and cheesy for a great sandwich - sort of a Monte Christo vibe but not quite as heavy. Best of all was the house salad. The beets, pickled onions and goat cheese were a delicious combination. We got doughnuts to go for the family. They were intended for the morning, but they didn't last that long. Everyone young and old enjoyed them. They also have vegan doughnuts that are very tasty. You should check it out. We will be back!

Awesome store/building and the most friendliest staff. Cute and rustic home/store; inside and out. We walked out in the garden area and are our doughnuts.

Excellent food - 5 stars. The Turkey club and the fish sandwich were excellent. The onion rings are really onion strings but a nice change up. The doughnuts are great too! Lots of selection to choose from but you have to get there earlier for the best of it.I vote for a name change - I don't think the name accurately reflects all that they have to offer. Staff was nice but service was extremely slow (this was the beginning of the 4th of July weekend). Our to-go order ordered in person was estimated at 15-20 min and it ended up being 40 minutes after we got all of our food. If you have time it's worth the wait!

We went here in search of vegan donuts. They had a dozen of one kind, vegan old fashioned. Very good, a solid 4.5 stars (another vegan variety or two would make it 5).I'm rounding up to 5 stars anyway because of the uniquely charming setting: a cluster of historic shops with pergola-shaded seating areas and pretty flowering landscaping, reminiscent of garden centers in the UK. The flower shop here is massive and stocks an excellent variety of plants from grasses to bushes to trees. You could easily spend an afternoon at this corner wandering around browsing and stopping in at the cafes and shops. (Whidbey Donuts is located at 2 on the map [see photo].)
