I used to like this place years ago. I called an order for pick up asked for general tso tofu. I get there and check my food and it was sweet and sour tofu not what I had ordered. I decided not to complaint since it was near closing time and whatever its still good. However I asked if I could get a chili sauce, sweet and sour packet and the lady scuffed, and threw the packet on the counter. So if you're in the mood for an inaccurate food order with a side of attitude this is the place!

It all started when I got their menu in my mailbox. Hungry one night, and in the mood for Chinese food, I decided to give it a try. I went online and tried their online ordering system, but even though I live less than a mile away, the system told me that I was outside of their delivery zone, and I needed to call. Doing so, I forfeited the online coupon I was looking forward to - free crab rangoon :( Oh well, I guess in hindsight, it's better off I didn't get them, if the rest of the meal was any indication of the quality they'd be. I ordered chicken and broccoli - one of my favorites, and an utter disappointment :( Why can't Chicago seem to understand how to make this staple dish actually taste good. I don't know which was worse, the absolute flavorlessness of it, or the fact that it was 90% veg and 10% chicken. Let me move on to the wonton soup, which was filled with other things, I'm not even sure what, but veg of some sort, so fine. I take all the solid pieces out of the container and put them in a bowl, and I'm being generous if I say there was an inch left of broth in the container. This to me is NOT soup :( Cut the alleged wontons in half and discovered that they weren't actually wontons, but dough folded over itself so many times and pressed together to become an actual solid chunk of dough...no filling whatsoever in any of the pieces :( I'm desperate to find a decent Chinese restaurant in Chicago that will deliver to my neighborhood - Wen Cai definitely is NOT it :( :( :(

Ordered the vegetarian plate, to my disappointment my rice had so much chicken pieces. At first I kept eating because I figured the chicken piece fell in there accidentally but there was chicken in every bite so I ate the veggies. The egg roll it came with was not good at all mostly felt greasy than savory. Could hardly finish my food sadly.

Excited to get some bubble tea here after reading the rave review from another yelper. Came in and saw the taro bubble tea on the wall and tried ordering that. The lady at the counter said that she knew there was a pic of taro on the wall but they don't have it. Ok....then she started mumbling under her breath and left the counter and started packing things to go and answering the phone! I was a little dumbfounded that she ignored me while in the middle of ordering my food...?! So she comes back and I ask her if they have tofu. Again some mumbling under her breath and she looks at some papers and said no tofu today and seems like she's ready to dismiss me AGAIN. Ok...so I still want to order something! So I ordered Vietnamese chow fun with shrimp. She repeats the order and says how much is that? Grabs a menu and starts studying it to get the price. In the meantime the line behind me is growing and I'm getting irritated. I say, on the wall it says $5.75 for a small order. She ignores me and rings it up for $7.20. I repeat that on the wall it says 5.75 with a picture. She says no no that's not right!! Then comes around from behind the counter to see the picture menu. I point to the pix and she says no! This is VIETNAMESE chow fun! I said yes that is what I ordered! So she rings up the right price finally. Then I waited nearly 30 mins for the food which is a little unreal. The staff seemed overwhelmed as people kept streaming in and ordering food which is a good sign I think, but communication skills are a leeeeetle lacking...The actual food: it was not the best I ever had but it was decent. $5.75 got me a TON of food, probably enough for 3 meals. I also asked for less oil and they obliged...it was definitely not glistening in oil so they listened. Lots of jumbo shrimp and generous heaps of rice noodles. Not bad.

The good thing about this place is that the prices are pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. We had the dinner combos which were a great deal. The wonton soup was also a great deal as it was one of those large soup containers for $4.25. The shrimp lobster sauce was pretty tasty as were the egg rolls and egg drop soup. Now for the bad... Most of the food was not very good. Maybe I've been spoiled by the food in Chinatown, but most of the food was just mediocre. It was also way too salty. If you are looking for quantity, this is your place. If you want quality, you'll have to spend a little more elsewhere.
