It's no floppy slice ..look at those bubbles. Bread is their specialty and you could taste it in the crust.
The execution was flawless. The crust was crispy and dense. As it cooled it got a bit chewy but it was still fantastic. Pizza for two.
Almond Croissant & Pistachio in the back
Cortado & Oat milk latte

TL;DR: All delicious pastries and breads. Get the jalapeno croissant. Or don't and live with regret.Be prepared to wait but the line moves relatively fastMust get: Jalapeno cheddar (?) croissant - wow I could've eaten a whole dozen of theseSavory scone was alright - got it because they were running low so I assumed it was going to be excellent. Really good crumble but would've liked more umph..like the jalapeno croissantWe also got the meat sandwich - good but not great. I'm going for the jalapeno croissants every. time. now. Be back soon - cheers, Wayfarer!

I've been meaning to check out this bakery for a while, but the first time I came on the weekend and the line was just awful. The second time I preordered, and the experience was much smoother. I ordered 1 plain croissant, 4 kouign amanns, and 1 roasted tomato corn bun.-Plain croissant: this was so mid. The outside tasted a little burnt, and the croissant as a whole was too dry. The layers when you pulled it apart were good, but it was so dry when you bit into it that the flakes would turn into tiny crumbs that got stuck all over your throat. The inside was good because it wasn't too bready, but it could be a tiny bit sweeter.-Kouign amann: these were great. They looked amazing from photos, so I hoped that I wouldn't regret buying 4, and thankfully I didn't. The outside coating is thorough and perfectly sweet, similar to a palmier, and you can taste the butter in each layer. However if you get a bite without the crunchy exterior, it is very average. The batter doesn't do much for this pastry. It's all the outside coating. I will say though, this pastry tastes better reheated because the outside has a chance to melt more into the interior.-Roasted tomato corn bun: this was an impulse buy that I regret lol. The pecorino romano is too strong for this pastry. It really overpowers the tomato and corn. I wish they used a gentler cheese.Overall I won't come back. The line is a huge inconvenience if you just want to pop in, and the batter isn't actually that good. From what I got, they rely heavily on the exterior flavors to define the pastry.

Wildly obsessed. Always a win!Parking can be a little difficult on weekends but that is normal in the area. Lines on weekends are crazy so I usually only go during the weekdays. Service is mostly friendly but who cares if they aren't because the product is out of this world.

This is hands down one of the best bakeries you will ever visit in the entire state of California.Lines are totally worth it and move rather quick. Staff is super friendly and offer great recommendations. We ordered a few pastries to eat onsite expecting to take home leftovers. Nope.Everything was so damn good we finished the box of pastries right there. That included:Croissant: made so well. Simple, flaky, buttery, crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside, this is how you do a croissant. Not like that nonsense $8 croissant from Izola that doesn't even have the right textures.Pistachio Strawberry Croissant - Izola should also take notes on how to do a flavored croissant. This isn't overpowering, the pistachios are delicious, strawberry was tart and not overly sugared. This was excellent.Black Sesame Scone - soft, rich in flavor, slightly sweet. My only wish here is that it was a bit more "hard" on the outside, or maybe just more dense. Tomato Garlic Cheese - THIS. THIS THIS THIS!!!!!!Kouign Amann - seriously the best I've ever had. The crunchiest, flakiest, so buttery, and just sweet enough. We ordered 3 baguettes and finished one within an hour of our car ride home to LA. Ate the other two in the coming days with various butter, cheese, prosciutto, etc.And that multi-seed loaf. So pillowy soft on the inside, with a thick, crunchy, seedy layer around the entire outside. This is a must.Wayfarer is where it's at. I'll make a trip to SD just for this place.

Got here 10 minutes before opening and there was already a decent line! Don't worry though, it moves pretty quickly and the bread and pastries are definitely worth it! The staff are friendly and don't make you feel rushed. The shop is small, but there's a little bit of bench seating right outside. I DEFINITELY recommend the sourdough loaf and the Kouign-amann.

Update:Order in advance for pickup otherwise you won't get anything as they run out very fast. The only thing I'd try here is the almond croissant. The normal one was good, a solid 8.5/10. it misses a bit of the buttery flavor and I found it a bit expensive for $5. flavor wise it was more on a bread side.

A quint bakery in Bird Rock with amazingly delicious pastries! Wayfarer has a wide variety of sweet and savory pastries, as well as cookies and sandwiches. Parking can be tricky since it's all street parking but there's a good amount of parking near the residential area if you don't mind a little walk. I got the chamomile kumquat bun, ricotta asparagus tile, and strawberry pistachio croissant. All three were delicious. Come early for the best selection and check their website for the current pastry rotation!!

Trending spot w stunning pastries. We preordered the day before and highly recommend it. On our pickup day, the line was extremely long and pickup line was empty! Would rate it 4.5/5 stars if I could. + Plain Croissant ($4.75): gorgeous dark and light brown layers. On the skinnier croissant but pretty good (8/10)+ Ham and Cheese Croissant ($5.75): sooo crispy! Layers of flakiness, the ham and cheese were loaded in one area, but still good (8.5/10)+ Almond Croissant ($5.75): recommend eating it fresh, we had it warmed up the next day, and it wasn't as fresh. Thick layer of almond paste baked onto the croissant. (7.2/10)+ Strawberry Guava Galette ($6.50): strawberries smelled amazing and fresh, the guava jam stands out and the crust is so crispy. Bit too sweet for me but a gorgeous pastry (7.8/10) + Baguette ($5.25): great price for a fresh stick! We had it with cheese, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil and it was delicious (8/10)

I didn't do any research prior to coming. Ordering ahead is the way to go. We went around noon on a weekday and the selections were slim pickings. Literally had 4 things to choose from. I got the salted chocolate chip cookie and the cinnamon bun. It was over $9 for only 2 pastries and they were cold. For the price, they should definitely be served warm or have the option to heat them up in store. Like who would want to eat a cold ham and cheese croissant?I nuked them for 30 seconds at home and they were decent. The chocolate chip cookie had a very strong off-putting egg taste. The cinnamon bun was tasty because they were heated up at home. If I had them at the store, I would have been disappointed too. Service counter was quick but the process felt rushed. The outside patio was nice with the plants and shade but very limited seating. So yeah, order ahead but you'd still have to heat them up somehow.

The best bread and pastry shop in San Diego! We've heard good things about Wayfarer in Bird Rock for a number of years and finally tried it yesterday for breakfast. On a Tuesday morning, there was a line out the door to order, and another one for picking up phone orders. The order queue moved quickly enough. My wife had Kouign Amann (5/5) -- pure buttery flaky heaven, best this side of Paris or New York. I went for a savory, the Tomato, White Cheddar and Garlic tile (5/5) -- flaky, light and flavorful. There's no table seating, but there are a few benches on the front porch where people were enjoying their pastries and coffee. We opted to eat our treats at a nearby park overlooking the Pacific Ocean.Street parking only. You may have to walk a few blocks, but it's worth it. We were lucky enough to get a space practically in front.
